FAQ

  • Q: Do I need to modify the filter when installing the deep oil pan?
  • A: Yes, it is recommended to use a 4WD filter (FORD YC3Z-7A098-BA or equivalent) and trim 3/8 from the oil pick-up portion for proper fit.
  • Q: How do I ensure a proper seal when installing the deep oil pan?
  • A: Make sure to clean the gasket surface thoroughly, use the provided oil pan gasket, and tighten all screws securely using the specified torque.

OVERVIEW

  • Thank you for purchasing the B&M E40D/4R100 Cast Aluminum Deep Oil Pan.
  • This product provides several advantages over stock factory oil pans.
  • The extra capacity provides more oil volume to add cooling, while the aluminium construction increases case rigidity.
  • The magnetic drain plug feature allows regular transmission maintenance and oil changes (without the usual mess associated with dropping the pan) and limits ferrous debris from circulating in the transmission.

INTRODUCTION

  • Please inventory all parts using BOM and call our tech line to report any missing parts.
  • This will help avoid potentially stranding your vehicle until any missing replacement parts arrive.

TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER
We recommend every vehicle should have a transmission oil cooler in addition to the radiator heat exchanger. Heat is the major cause of transmission failures, and an oil cooler is an inexpensive safeguard against overheating. B&M offers a wide range of transmission coolers for this purpose, which you can find by visiting our website.

  • Read through these instructions completely, then gather the tools indicated in a list before installing your B&M E4OD/4R100 Cast Aluminum Deep Oil Pan.

TOOL LIST

Drain Pan| 10mm Socket| Screwdriver
3/8″ Rachet| 6mm Allen Wrench| 12 Quarts ATF
3/8″ Rachet Extension| 3/4″ Box Wrench| Jack & Jack Stands

  • Automatic transmissions operate between 150°F-250°F. Allow vehicle time to cool off to avoid burns from hot oil and parts. The vehicle should be off the ground for ease of installation – jack stands, wheel ramps or a hoist will work fine.
  • Make sure the vehicle is firmly supported. Do NOT work under a vehicle if it is supported by only a jack.
  • Transmission components are precision fit and dirt is the number one enemy of an automatic transmission. Use a clean work surface from which oil can easily be removed as necessary.

INSTALLATION

  • Drain transmission pan. Loosen and remove bolts one by one, working towards the back of the transmission. Remove the last two bolts slowly and the pan will tilt down to allow the remaining fluid to drain. If the pan sticks to the old gasket, pry it down slightly with a screwdriver to break the seal before removing the last two bolts. After the last bolt is removed, the pan can be lowered and set aside.

  • Remove the factory gasket and filter from the case.

  • We recommend changing the filter at this time, the pan was designed to be used with a 4WD filter (FORD YC3Z-7A098-BA or equivalent). Modify it by trimming 3/8″ from the oil pick-up portion.

  • Install filter and clip (9) onto the bolt to secure the filter to transmission.

  • Inspect the gasket and if you prefer, clean and re-use it. Otherwise, replace it with oil pan gasket (2).
  • Install deep pan (1) using (x20 ea.) screws (3) and flat washers (4). Then install drain plug gasket (7), drain plug bolt (5) then pipe plug (6). Make sure each of these is tight.
  • Lower the vehicle and add transmission fluid as per dealer specifications.

NOTE: Overfilling will cause foaming and overheating.

  • Start the engine and place the shifter into neutral. Add fluid up to the “add” mark. Shift transmission through all gear positions then check oil pan and gaskets for leaks. Once transmission has warmed up, add more fluid up to “full”.

  • Congratulations, the installation of your B&M Deep Oil Pan is now complete!
