REMOVING EXISTING TOP

Unzip and remove left and right rear quarter windows from vehicle.

NOTE: Save all screws and hardware to reuse on the new top.

Release header Top latches.

Detach the lower edge of Top from the horizontal slots.

Partially unzip the rear window and slide out the lower support rail from the the Top.

Set aside the support rail to be used with the new top.

Completely unzip rear window and detach L/R Top bow listing snaps from rear crossbow.

Use a flat head screwdriver to pry out the L/R side sewn-in plastic extrusions to release Top from Frame

Detach inner velcro listings from crossbows to release Top from frame

Retract frame to open position, remove the fourteen (14) phillips screws across the header to release Top.
With the bow assembly laying on the tailgate, remove the screws that fasten the fabric to the corners of the header.
Set the screws aside for use in installing the new top fabric.
Remove the old top fabric from the vehicle.

Manufacturing Note: Due to header assembly modifications by Chrysler, the plastic strip on the windshield header may have 8 screw locations instead of 14. Either number of screws will securely fasten the header and perform as the original design was intended.

BEGIN INSTALLING NEW TOP

Begin installation of new Top.
With the inner side facing up, position the replacement Top front plastic strip to header and install the fourteen (14) phillip screws.(some headers only require 8 screws)
Start from the center screw and work outwards.

Flip the replacement Top onto the frame and fit the Top’s L/R front pocketed corners to header.

Retract (raise) the frame to closed position (do not latch), position Top over the crossbows and secure the L/R rear listing snaps to crossbow.

Secure replacement Top’s L/R rear lower corners to the horizontal slots on vehicle

Latch Top header to windshield.

To ease latching header to windshield, its best to park vehicle under sunlight for approximately one (1) hour for topping material to stretch.
Close the header latches to secure the front of the top to the windshield. Catch the hook in the slot in the windshield frame and then close the lever over it so that it lays flat against the windshield frame.

Secure the replacement Top’s inner Velcro listings to crossbows

Remove the rear window from the box and lay it flat with backing side up.
Insert tailgate support rail removed earlier to rear window section and clip them together to the horizontal slots on vehicle.
Orient the bar with the round seal down and slide the “C” channel on the retainer onto the tubed strip sewn to the backing side of the Rear Window.

Connect the window zipper slider to the Top’s zipper sleeve and run the slider from left to right to secure window into Top.

Connect the L/R quarter window zipper slider to Top’s zipper sleeve and run the slider from front to rear to secure windows to Top.
Start the zipper at the front top corner of the quarter panel, next to the door.
Hold the end of the zipper and close the zipper slider along the top of the panel.

Use a putty knife to help force the L/R quarter window plastic extrusions into the retaining channels.
Slip the strips into the channel in the Door Surround above the door opening. It is easiest to insert the front plastic strip into the channel first.
NOTE: If you have a 1997 vehicle with a slip-on plastic extrusion on the door surround, it must be removed. Pull down on the extrusion to work it loose.

Above each door, force the plastic extrusions into the retaining channels.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE OF YOUR NEW TOP

DO:

  • Wash vinyl fabric using a mild soap and a soft brush. Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue
  • Lubricate the zipper slides regularly using a dry graphite powder
  • Wash windows with a soft cloth soaked in lukewarm water. A mild dishwashing soap may be added

DON’T:

  • Use a brush or squeegee to clean the windows
  • Clean snow or frost from the windows using a scraper
  • Roll up the side or rear windows when the temperature is below 60F

If a zipper opens behind the slider, the slider jaws may have been spread apart. This problem can usually be repaired by using a pair of pliers to bring the sides of the jaws back into parallel. Return slider to the end of the zipper in the normal Open position. Using pliers gently squeeze the jaws of the slider together until they are parallel. Try closing the zipper. If zipper remains open squeeze more firmly with pliers and try zipper again.
