CAUTIONS AC MAINS SUPPLY
Your K3 Power Amplifier is set to operate from a fixed supply voltage which is
marked on a label next to the mains input plug. Before connecting the mains
lead please check that your mains supply corresponds to the label as below:
230V Products: Voltage Range 220V – 240V
115V Products: Voltage Range: 110V – 120V
100V Products : Voltage Range: 90V – 110V
The mains lead supplied with this product has an IEC mains socket which plugs
into the IEC connector on the unit’s rear panel. The other end is normally
attached to the appropriate mains plug for your country. In the UK this is the
standard UK13A plug.
This plug should ordinarily not be removed from the lead. If you do remove it,
please dispose of it safely so that it cannot be plugged into a mains socket
whilst in a potentially dangerous condition. We suggest that you obtain from
your dealer a complete set of replacement leads. Should you move to another
area where either the mains voltage or the mains plug are different from those
as supplied with your Integrated Amplifier, please contact the appointed
ROKSAN distributor for assistance.
Please observe correct mains polarity at all times.
The Power Amplifier mains fuse is located on the rear panel next to the IEC
mains connector.
This must only be replaced by the fuse of the type and rating as described on
the fuse rating label on the rear panel of the unit.
This product requires connection to earth (ground). The earth wire (in the UK
this is colour coded green/yellow) of the mains cable supplied with your
Integrated Amplifier must be connected to a suitable earthing point
established for this purpose by your electricity supply company. If you are in
any doubt, consult a qualified electrician. If the equipment is likely to be
unattended for some time, unplug it from the mains supply.

SET-UP CONNECTING MAINS POWER
Please refer to the front & rear panel view on Page 4. The moulded IEC
connector of the supplied mains lead should be plugged into the socket (7) on
the rear of the unit fir st and then plugged into the mains supply. The Mains
power switch (2) is on the front underside of the
Stereo Power Amplifi er. This switch can be left on; if however the amplifi er
is likely to be unattended for a long period, switch it off and unplug the
mains lead from the wall.
All the inputs use Gold plated RCA Phono Connectors and should be connected
according to the standard convention – Right Channel – Red; Left Channel –
Black or White.
Also in accordance with standard practice, the Upper row of Phono Sockets
carries the Left
Channel and the Lower row carries the Right Channel.
INPUT CONNECTIONS
If you wish to use the amplifi er for multi-amping with the K3 Integrated or
purely as a pre/power combination (with the K3 Integrated acting as the
preamplifier ), you should connect the pre out of your K3 Integrated (or pre-
amplifi er or surround sound processor) to the corresponding input. The gain
of the K3 Stereo Power Amplifi er is exactly the same as the power amplifi er
section of the K3 Integrated Amplifi er and therefore is ideal for Multi-
amping (Bi-amping,
Tri-amping etc.)
You have the choice between RCA and XLR inputs/outputs. Use selector switch
(4) to select the desired cable configuration. Please note that the circuits
run in parallel, so input and output must be the same cable type.
IMPORTANT NOTE: For optimum performance it is recommended to use high quality
interconnect cable such as ROKSAN HDC-03 A High Defin ition Analogue Cable.
LOUDSPEAKER CONNECTIONS
The Right and Left loudspeakers are connected to the amplifi er via the rear
panel binding posts respectively.
IMPORTANT NOTE: For optimum performance it is recommended to use high quality
interconnect cables such as ROKSAN HDC-02A high de finition analogue Cable.
IMPORTANT NOTE: It is always better to use the straight inputs when there are
no requirements for level adjustment.
Carefully observe polarity ensuring that the RED (+) speaker terminal is
connected to the RED (+) amplifi er terminal and the BLACK (-) speaker
terminal to the BLACK (-) amplifi er terminal.
When all the channels are connected to their respective speakers the amplifi
er is ready for use.
MULTI-AMPING THE LOUDSPEAKERS
If the Loudspeakers utilise more than one drive unit with individual input
terminals, for example a Tweeter and a Woofer, then the loudspeaker
performance will greatly benefi t from bi-amping.
Dedicating one amplifi er to the Tweeter and another to the Woofer isolates
them from each other hence reducing distortion and increasing reserved power,
creating more headroom and drive. Speakers work far better with most amplifi
ers when multi-amped than using one yet more powerful amplifi er. NOTE: Drive
unit links MUST be removed from the rear terminals of the loudspeaker before
multi-amping.
OPERATION
Please refer to the front and rear panel views Switching On
The Mains power switch (1) is on the front left underside of the K3 Stereo
Power Amplifi er. This switch should be left ON for normal operation. If
unattended for a long period, the Mains power should be switched OFF and the
lead disconnected from the power supply.
When switched, your K3 Stereo Power Amplifi er will go to ‘Sleep/Warm-up’ mode
and the MODE indicator light (2) on the front will glow GREEN. The amplifi er
is now ready for use.
-
If there is no signal (or the signal level is extremely low) the MODE indicator light will stay
GREEN and the amplifi er will be in warm-up mode. The exception to this is the initial start up, if the unit has been off for a long period of time. -
When there is signal, the input sensor will ‘wake up’ the amplifi er and the MODE indicator light will change to RED.
-
After approximately 5 seconds (Allowing the signal to settle down) the Output Relays will turn on and the amplifi er will be fully operational.
-
If there is still no signal after approximately 30 minutes, the amplifi er will revert to Sleep/
Warm-up mode and the MODE indicator light will glow GREEN. -
As soon as there is a signal the K3 Power Amplifi er will ‘wake up’, the MODE indicator light will glow RED and after approximately 5 seconds the outputs will be activated again.
TROUBLESHOOTING
If you suspect that your ROKSAN K3 Power Amplifi er is not operating properly, you should check all the connections carefully. Pay particular attention to speaker phasing and channel connections. Phono plugs should be fully inserted- a frequent cause of problems is that Phono plug surrounds do not make proper contact. Below are some commonly encountered problems with suggestions for possible cure. The l ist is not exhaustive: If you have any unresolved problems, please consult your appointed ROKSAN dealer or distributor.
