Explanation of terms
You will find the following icons and descriptions in these instructions:

  • Danger! High risk. Disregarding the warning can cause physical injury or death.
  • Attention! Moderate risk. Disregarding the warning can cause material damage.
  • Important! Slight risk. Details which should be observed.

Safety instructions

  • Danger of injury!
Only accessories recommended by the manufacturer should be used, as they are important for the safety of the pump. To ensure the safety of the pump, only replacement parts supplied or approved by the manufacturer should be used. Ensure that the pump is not used by children or untrained individuals. Use the pump only for its intended purpose, and take into account local conditions. Never leave the pump unattended while it is in operation. To protect from water or dirt which may spray back, wear suitable protective clothing and safety glasses. The safety devices on this pump serve to protect from injury and must not be modified or circumvented.

  • The danger of explosion!
Never pump solvents, liquids containing solvents, or undiluted acids (e.g. petrol, paint thinners, heating oil, etc). The spray mist is highly inflammable, explosive, and poisonous. Never use the pump in explosion-prone areas. When using the pump in dangerous areas (e.g. petrol stations), observe the pump safety regulations.

  • Danger from electric shock!
The pump must be connected only to an electric circuit that is protected with a residual current circuit breaker (RCCB). The RCCB specifies that the rated residual operating current should not exceed 30 mA. Before each use, check the connecting cable and plug for damage. The mains voltage (120V~60Hz) must match that shown on the manufacturer’s plate. Do not install or switch on the pump if there are people in the medium being pumped (e.g. a swimming pool), or they are in contact with it. Children and young people under the age of 16 years may not use this pump and must be kept away from it when it is in operation. Repairs may be carried out only by a skilled electrician. This is particularly important because the housing must be protected from the penetration of water (current + water danger). The pump is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge  unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the pump by a person responsible for their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the pump.

  • Danger of asphyxiation!
Ensure that the packing sheeting does not cause a deadly trap for children.
Before starting cleaning or maintenance work remove the plug from its socket. To do this, remove the mains plug from its socket. When pulling out the plug, always hold the plug itself, never the cable.

Attention!

  • Do not operate the pump if the mains cable, plug, or pump is faulty, if there is visible damage, or if there is a burning smell or unusual noises. If the connecting cable is damaged, It must be replaced by the manufacturer, his customer service, or a similarly qualified person. If the plug is cut off, or the cable is shortened, the condition of the guarantee is annulled, as operating safety is no longer ensured. Unsuitable extension cables can be dangerous. In the open air, use only approved extensions that are marked correspondingly and which have sufficient conductor cross-section: 1-10m: 18AWG, 10-30m: 16AWG. The plug and connection of any extension cable used must be watertight. If a cable drum is used, it must be fully unwound to avoid overheating the cable. If a float switch is used, it must be able to float freely and should not be obstructed in any way, for the pump to be able to switch on and off without being impeded.

  • This pump is not suitable for continuous running (e.g. permanent circulation in filter units). Apart from that, it is suitable for use with liquids containing or containing components of dirt, sand, mud, or clay. If there is a particle size given (e.g. 25mm) for pumping, this is not based on sand or stones, but on soft flexible particles such as lint or similar, which cannot become wedged in the impeller inside the pump. To avoid damage, switch off the pump immediately if the impeller jams, and only restart after it has been cleaned out.

  • Dry running (i.e. when there is no water in the pump) must be avoided, as this will damage the pump.

  • To avoid damage to the strain relief for the cable, do not carry the submersible pump by the connection cable, but only by the handle. The pump should also not be immersed in the liquid using the connection cable. If necessary, attach an additional strong rope to the handle. To prevent dry running, do not connect the pump to the main supply at any time during installation.

  • The pumps are designed for a maximum water temperature of 35°C. Al ways stand the pump upright when in use.

  • Ground connection

  • Zero conductor

  • Fault current breaker switches must correspond to the safety regulations of the power plants and they must work faultlessly.

  • The electrical connections must be protected from moisture.

  • If there is a danger of loading, the electrical connections must be taken to higher ground.

  • Circulation of aggressive fluids, as well as the circulation of abrasive materials, must be avoided at all costs.

  • The submersible motor-driven pump must be protected from frost.

  • The pump must be protected from running dry.
Access on the part of children should also be prevented with appropriate measures.

  • The pollution of the liquid may occur due to leakage of lubricant.

Important!
Protect the cable from heat, oil, and sharp edges. Repairs on electrical pumps may be carried out only by authorized specialists. Repairs that are carried out incorrectly may create significant danger for the user. Damage that may result from faults in the pump should be prevented by taking suitable measures (e.g. installation of an alarm unit or a reserve pump). The manufacturer will accept no responsibility for these. If the pump is permanently installed using inflexible pipes, we recommend that a non-return valve is fitted, so that no water can flow back into the pump. Submersible pumps with less than 10m connecting cable may be used only internally with 10m or more cable they may also be used externally.
Note!
The pump shaft should have minimum dimensions of 40×40×50cm so that the floating switch can move freely.

Mains supply

Your new submersible pump is equipped with a shockproof plug according to regulations. The pump is designed to be connected to a 120V ~ 60Hz safety socket. Make sure that the socket is sufficiently secured (min.13 Amp.) and is in excellent condition, Introduce the plug into the socket and the pump is ready to go.
Important note!
If the main cable or plug suffers any damage from external action, repairs to the cable are prohibited.

Please note!

  • You should never install the pump by suspending it unsupported by its delivery pipe or power cable.
  • The submersible motor must be suspended from the specially provided handle or placed on the bottom of the shaft.
  • To guarantee that the pump works properly, the bottom of the shaft must be kept ree of sludge and dirt of all kinds.
  • If the lever of water sinks too far, any sludge in the shaft will dry out quickly and stop the pump from starting up. It is necessary, therefore, to check the submersible motor pump regularly (by carrying out start-up tests).
  • The floater is adjusted in a way that the pump can immediately start.

Areas of use

This pump is used primarily as a Cellar pump. When installed in a shaft, this pump protects from flooding.
They are also used whenever water has to be moved from one place to another, e.g. in the home, agriculture, horticulture, plumbing, and many other applications.

Setting to work

  • After having read these instructions carefully, you can set your pump to work, reconsidering the following items:
  • Check if the pump rests on the ground of the shaft.
  • Check that the pressure cord has been attached properly.
  • Check if the electrical connection is 120V~60Hz.
  • Check if the socket is in good condition.
  • Make sure that water and humidity can never come to the main supply.
  • Avoid the pump running dry.

Use

  • Before first use, attach a sufficiently long and strong rope to the pump handle.
This rope will be used to lower the pump into the liquid, and it can also be used for carrying the pump (as an alternative to the handle). If the rope is connected to the submersible pump over an extended period of use. We recommend that the rope’s condition is checked regularly as with time it may rot and break.

  • If the pump is run only irregularly, use a suitable water hose with a diameter of 1″ or 2/3 inch. If run at a fixed location, the use of inflexible pipes and a non-return valve is recommended. This prevents the liquid from flowing back when the pump is stopped. The installation of quick-release fasteners simplifies maintenance and cleaning.

  • The size of the vessel being emptied should be such that the maximum frequency of switching on (see Technical Data) is not exceeded. If possible, the pump should be hanging in the liquid at a sufficient distance from the floor when run, to avoid suction of unsuitable solids. These may block the pump or its impeller.

  • Choose the position of installation such that the float switch is freely movable at all times, and can switch on and off automatically without hindrance The switching on and off of the float switch can be modified by changing the height setting.

Maintenance guidelines

  • This submersible pump is an approved, maintenance-free quality product, that is subject to severe final controls.
  • We recommend regular inspection and maintenance to ensure long equipment life and uninterrupted operation.
  • After every use with dirty water, clean the pump with clean mains water to prevent dirt residue from drying on. Before again using the pump, first “soak” it so that any stuck-on dirt residue does not block the pump. Protect the pump from frost, and store in a frost-free area.
  • Check the functioning of the float switch at regular intervals (raise the float switch and check that it will switch on and off by rolling to and fro the metal ball that is inside.

Important! note!

  • Remove the mains plug before all maintenance work.
  • In peacetime when the pump is often transported in the course of operation, it should be cleaned out with clear water after every use.
  • In case of stationary installation, the function of the floating switch should be checked every 3 months.
  • A water jet should remove all fibrous particles, which may have built up inside the pump housing.
  • Every 3 months the shaft ground should be cleaned from mud.
  • Remove deposits on the floater with clear water.

Cleaning the impeller

If excessive deposits collect in the pump case you must dismantle the bottom part of the pump as follows:

  1. Undo the 4 screws from the bottom of the intake cage.
  2. Remove the intake cage from the pump case.
  3. clean the impeller with clear water.
  4. Assemble in reverse order

Setting the ON/OFF operating point
The ON and OFF operating points of the float switch can be set by adjusting the float switch in its latching holder.

  • The float switch must be installed so that the level of the ON operating point and the level of the OFF operating point can be reached easily and with little force.
To check this, place the pump in a vessel filled with water, raise the float switch carefully by hand, and then lower it again. As you do so, note whether the pump switches on and off.

  • Make sure that the distance between the float switch head and the latching holder is not too small. Proper operation is not guaranteed if the gap is too small.

  • When you set the float switch, make sure that it does not touch the base before the pump switches off.
    Caution! Risk of dry running.
