HOW TO USE
How to Start Your Heat Press Project?
-
STEP 1. Power on your heat press
Plug the machine into the power cord and connect the power, then short press the power button, the heat press machine will power on, and the machine will open automatically. The screen will also display the initial temperature and time. -
STEP 2. Heat up your machine
Use the control panel dial to adjust temperature and timespecific to your material and blank. You can set the temperature and time while you are getting your base material and design ready to press. Once heat plate reaches set temperature, the indicator light will turn green and the machine will beep.
Tips
If you want to preheat your project, Place the blank(like a T-shirt.) on the mat as flat as possible. Then press the start button. The heat press will automatically apply the pressure, and the timer will count down. The heat plate will rise when the timer reaches zero. It means your blank is preheated. This step can remove moisture and wrinkles from your blank and make your pattern last longer without peeling off. -
STEP 3. Heat press your design
Place the design on your blank, and make sure the vinyl faces the blank. Don’t forget to put a Teflon sheet on your vinyl or sublimation paper! If you use sublimation paper, you’d better place a piece of cardstock inside your blank to avoid ink damage on the back of it. -
STEP 4. Remove the backing
Allow your project to cool, and remove the backing. Better to finish sublimation and see the colour result before removing. It will be 24 hours before you can wash your project.
How to Press on Wood?
Using heat press products with wood can be challenging because no two pieces
of wood are the same. When using Gabelly Auto Heat Press to apply iron-on
(HTV) to wood, keep these guidelines in mind:
Wood cannot be over 2.76 in (7 cm) thick and should not have any type of
coating or filler.
Note: Pre-made polished wood or wood with a finish, such as cutting boards, may not work.
- Wood should be as flat as possible. If possible, we recommend sanding the wood, this will give it a consistent look and uniform to ensure ready for iron-on transfers.
- Iron-on (HTV) needs to have a surface to hold onto. Extremely smooth wood will make it difficult for iron-on transfers to adhere well.
- Clean wood with a cloth to remove dust and debris before pressing.
Pressing Steps
-
Set the control panel temperature to 300°F (155°C) and time to 20 seconds.
-
Place the wood with the design taped down onto the mat/platen and cover it with butcher paper or parchment paper.
-
Press the project for the full 20 seconds and wait for the machine to open.
-
Burnish your design onto the wood with a scraper, rotate the project 90° on the mat/platen, and cover it with butcher paper.
Note: Burnishing helps push adhesive into parts of the wood that may not be flat. -
Press the project for another 20 seconds.
-
Burnish the design with a scraper for a second time.
How to Iron on Large Designs?
Working with iron-on designs larger than the heat plate is not a problem for
our 15″ x 12″ Gabelly Auto Heat Press. Iron-on (HTV) Projects
- Plug in and power on the Gabelly Auto Heat Press.
- Set the control panel to the recommended time and temperature for your base material and specific iron-on material.
- Arrange your blank on the pressing mat/platen, and position your iron-on design on the base material.
- Divide the image into smaller sections that the heat plate can cover. It is okay if the heat plate overlaps previously ironed-on sections. Just ensure any exposed iron-on film is covered by a protective sheet, so it doesn’t make direct contact with the heat plate. (Protective sheet can be a Teflon sheet).
- Press the “Start Button” to close the heat plate.
- When the first pressing cycle is complete, the heat plate will open automatically. Then you can shift your base material and design so that the next section is on the pressing mat/platen. Then press the “Start Button” again and start the next cycle.
- Repeat until heat has been applied to the entire design.
Note : Infusible Ink designs should be smaller than the heat plate and receive a single application of heat. They should not be applied in sections as this will result in unwanted transfer effects such as fading or lines in the transfer where the heat plate has overlapped a previously pressed section.
TIPS
- Gabelly Pressing Mat can be removed from the platen for ease in arranging your base material and design so it’s ready to go when you place it on the platen.
- Threading ‒ when base materials like apparel, pillow covers, bags, etc., are large or have bulky seams, zippers, or buttons you need to avoid, you can “thread” your base material on themat/platen. Simply open the item and slide it over the mat and platen until the pressing area is positioned how you want it Then tuck the remainder of the base material under and around the platen.
- For designs that are only slightly smaller than the heat plate, make sure the edges of your design don’t flow over the edge of the mat as this will prevent those edges from receiving the necessary heat and pressure.
- When applying multiple-layer iron-on designs or iron-on designs larger than the heat plate which must be applied in sections ‒ use a protective sheet such as a Teflon sheet as a protective barrier between the heat plate and exposed iron-on.
NOTE
- Place the cut design on the base material with shiny liner side up and arrange blank on the pressing mat. Transfer mat and material blank to a platen.
- Avoid seams when using Gabelly Auto Heat Press. If the heat plate crosses over seams, the design will not receive even heat, resulting in an unwanted transfer effect. Blank, transfer materials, and pressing mat will be hot! Allow project to cool before removing the liner and your finished project from Platen. Wait 24 hours before washing the embellished item. For the longest life, wash and dry embellished items inside-out. If areas of iron-on material lift after washing, simply follow the complete application instructions to reapply.
How to Deal With Material That Have Seams?
From baby clothes to zipper pouches, to anything with pockets, seams can make
it challenging to deliver the even heat you want to achieve consistent iron-on
transfers. To get the best results for your project, follow our simple tricks
below.
Place base material correctly on the platen
Before applying your design to your base material, position the seams over the
edge of the platen so the application area is completely flat.
Zippers
When working with zippers or pouches with zippers, place the zipper over the
edge of the platen so the heat plate will be able to provide even heat. If you
can’t put the zipper over the edge, you can insert a pressing pillow into the
item. This will raise the pressing surface so that the heat plate can provide
the even heat needed for the best results.
Threading
Threading is the process in which you slide a garment over the platen of , so only one layer of fabric is exposed to the heat plate. This will help ensure that your garment is perfectly flat and seams are over the edge of the platen, which will prevent uneven heat that will result in unwanted transfer effects.
How Do I Stop a Press?
To stop a press that has been started, simply press the “Start Button” or the
“Click Button” at the top of the heat plate. It will disengage, beep, and open
automatically
