IMPORTANT NOTE

• Require four (4) 1.5V AA Alkaline or Lithium batteries. We recommend using Energizer AA Lithium batteries in this camera to maximize battery life.
• Do not mix old and new batteries.

INTRODUCTION

ABOUT THE CAMERA

• The KJK trail camera is a new generation of digital scouting camera. It can be triggered by any movement of game in a location, detected by a highly sensitive Passive Infra-Red
  (PIR) motion sensor. The camera then takes high quality pictures , with still photos up to 36MP, and records 2.7K video clips with audio.

• The camera features the innovative and ultra-clear imaging technology. It incorporates new software innovations such as smart illumination technology, blur reduction technology, auto noise reduction, and dynamic exposure technology. These advancements deliver high-resolution image quality, multi-zone detection, pre-activated technology, and fast boot time, resulting in a 0.1s fast trigger speed and 0.5s recovery time.

• In a stand-by (surveillance) state, the camera consumes very little power, less than 0.1 mAh.

Main features:

• High-quality pictures (up to 36MP still photos) or full HD video clips with audio. The camera is equipped with a Sony Starlight sensor, a built-in 2.0-inch LCD color screen, making it conve­nient to review pictures and videos.
• Two working modes: Motion detection and Time lapse. Fast trigger time of approximately 0.1-0.5s and fast recovery time of less than 0.5s. Long trigger distance of up to 75ft.
• Info strip on each capture includes Date, Time, Temperature & Moon Phase.

PARTS AND CONTROLS

• The camera is equipped with 22pcs built-in high efficiency infrared LEDs, LED Indicators, Lens, PIR Sensors, Lock Holes in front view (Figure 1 ).
• The camera provides the following connections for external devices: USB port and SD card slot etc. (Figure 2).
• The camera has 2 strap holes on the back. The strap can be put through the strap holes and fastened securely around the tree trunk by pulling the end of the strap firmly (Figure 3).
• The camera has a 2.0-inch built-in LCD screen, which can be used for reviewing pictures or videos and menu displaying, and unique keypad design for easy program and operation, 4 AA batteries slot supported (Figure 4)
• A 3-way power switch is used to select the main operating modes: OFF, ON, and SETUP (Figure 5).
• A control key interface with six keys is primarily used in SETUP mode to select operational functions and parame­ters. As shown in Figure 5, the keys can also perform a second function (shortcut operations in SETUP mode) in addition to their main function.

INSTALLING THE BATTERIES AND SD CARD

Before you begin learning how to use your camera, you will first need to install a set of batteries and insert an SD card.
Although that may only take you a minute, there are some important notes about both batteries and SD cards you should be aware of, so please take the time to read the following directions and cautions:

LOADING BATTERIES

• After opening the cover of the battery compartment, you will see that the camera has four battery slots (Figure 6). A full four batteries must be installed for the camera to operate.
• Be sure to insert each battery with correct polarity (negative or “flat” end against the long spring of each battery slot).
• The camera takes 1.5V AA Lithium or Alkaline batteries. We recommend using 1.5V Lithium AA batteries (Energizer brand) to get maximum batteries lifetime. NiMH Recharge­able can also be used, but they might have a shorter life span due to their reduced efficiency over time and at low tempera­ture, and would not work for night video recording.
• On SETUP mode when battery power level gets low, the message “Low Battery” will show on the screen, please replace the batteries.
• NOTE: If the battery charge drops to 1/3, the Night Vision function will automatically turn off. You can check the remaining power in the bottom right corner of the screen. Please be aware that during nighttime operation, the camera utilizes built-in IR LEDs, resulting in higher power consumption compared to daytime use. Therefore, it is recommended using 1.5V AA lithium batteries, specifically 4 Energizer brand batteries, as they last two to three times longer than regular batteries. 

INSERTING THE SD CARD
Insert the SD card (with the camera’s power switch in the OFF position) before beginning to operate the camera. Don’t insert or remove the SD card when the power switch is in the ON or SETUP position. The camera uses a regular memory card to save photos (in . jpg format) and/or videos (in .AVI format). SD and SDHC (High Capacity)/SDXC cards up to a maximum 128GB capacity is supported (Figure 7).

The following describes how to insert and remove the SD card:

• Insert the SD card into the card slot with its label side upwards. A “click” sound indicates that the card is installed successfully. If the wrong side of the card is facing up, you will not be able to insert it without force, there is only one correct way to insert cards. If the SD card is not installed correctly, the device will not display an SD card icon on the screen in SETUP mode. Formatting Memory card by using the camera’s “Format” parameter in the menu settings before using it for the first time is recommended, especially when a card has been used in other devices.
• To take out the SD card, just gently push in the card (do not try to pull it out without pushing in first). The card is released from the slot and ready to be removed when you hear the click. Be sure the camera’s power is switched OFF before inserting or removing SD cards or batteries.

USING THE CAMERA

• Once you have prepared your camera by properly installing batteries and an SD card, you can simply take it outside, strap it to a tree (or not, depending on your application scenario),  switch it on, and leave. This way, you may capture some great photos that precisely match your expectations. However, we highly recommend spending some additional time indoors with this manual and your camera to familiarize yourself with the functions of the 3-way switch and control keys. Understanding these features will enhance your camera usage.
• At the very least, we suggest setting the date and time so that they can be imprinted (or not, as per your preference) on your photos as they are taken. It would also be beneficial to learn how to switch the camera to shoot video clips instead of still photos, if desired. Additionally, reading some tips on how to mount the camera on a tree can provide valuable insights.

THE OFF, ON, AND TEST MODES

The camera has three basic operational modes:

• OFF mode: Power switch in the OFF position.
• SETUP mode: Power switch in the SETUP position (screen is on).
• ON mode: Power switch in the ON position.

OFF Mode
The OFF mode is the “safe” mode when any actions must be taken, e.g., replacing the SD card or batteries, or transporting the device. And of course, when you are storing or not using the camera, you will switch it to OFF. Please note that in the OFF mode the camera consumes little power. It’s a good idea to take the batteries out of the battery compartment if the camera will not be used for a long time.

SETUP Mode

• In the SETUP mode you can check and change the settings of the camera with the help of its built-in screen. These settings, found in the menu by pressing MENU key, let you change the photo or video resolution, interval between photos, switch the time imprint on, etc. (See more in Section 8 ADVANCED SETTINGS).
• Moving the power switch to the SETUP position will turn on the screen display, and you will see an information screen that shows how many images can be taken, the battery level, camera or video mode, etc.
• Attention please: In SETUP mode, the camera will automatically turn off the screen if there is no operation (key pressing) within 5 minutes.
  In the SETUP mode, you can connect the camera to a comput­er’s USB port to download your images.

Shortcut Keys/Functions
As mentioned earlier in “Parts & Controls”, the keypads have secondary, “shortcut” functions when the camera is switched to SETUP mode:

• Press the OK key to quickly set the camera to shoot video clips.
• Press the Down key to quickly set the camera to take still photos.
• Press the SHOT key to manually trigger the shutter. This is useful for testing the camera.
• Switch it to the SETUP which is the middle, and press the PLAY button to play back photos and videos, not in the off or on. Press the DOWN or UP button to move through the photos. Finally press the PLAY key to exit the playback.

ON MODE

• Anytime after the batteries and SD card have been inserted, you can switch on the camera. When the power switch is moved to the middle position, the camera will enter into the ON (Surveil­lance) mode. The camera will countdown 10-second delay and then be ready to capture images. Once in the ON mode, no manual controls are needed or possible (the control keys have no effect). The camera will take photos or videos automatically (according to its current parameter settings).
• You can either move the power switch directly from OFF to ON mode, or stop at the SETUP position first to change one or more settings, then move the switch to ON after you have finished doing so.

ADVANCED SETTINGS

The trail camera comes with preset manufacturer settings. You can change the settings to meet your requirements. Please make sure that the camera is in the SETUP mode. Once the camera screen is on, press MENU key to enter/exit the menu. Press the UP/DOWN key to change the setting, and press the OK key to confirm the change. Always remember to press the OK to save the change. Otherwise you will lose your new setting.

• Select the shortest length of time that the camera will wait until it responds to any subsequent triggers from the PIR sensor after a game is first detected.
• During the selected interval, the camera will not take pictures/videos.
• This prevents the strand SD card from filling up with too many redundant images. Note: This option is invalid if Mode is set as “Time Lapse”.

• The “High” level will make the camera more sensitive to infrared (heat) and more easily triggered by motion, the “Low” level makes it less sensitive to heat and motion. The”Mid­ dle” is for average or moderate conditions.

• When the “Time Lapse” feature is enabled, the camera will automatically take photos/vid­eos according to the set interval (5sec- 24 Hours can be set) regardless of whether the motion sensor has detected any game.
• For example, after setting the interval time to 1H, and the camera will take a photo or record a video every hour (confirm whether to take a photo or record video based on your work mode), the camera will take 24 photos within 24H.
• This is helpful when observing cold-blooded animals like snakes, or the process of flower­ing etc.

• Press the Menu key to access the menu options. Use the navigation keys to select the “Date & Time” option and press the OK key to enter the settings. Adjust the time and date according to the local time. To modify a specific value, use the OK key to navigate the desired field.
• Use the UP/DOWN keys to modify the value of the selected field.
• After making the necessary modifications, press the OK key to confirm and save the changes.

Off

| Set a 4-digit password to protect your camera from unauthorized users. If the code is lost, turn the power switch to “OFF” at first. Then enter the universal password “1111” to restore normal functionality.

MOUNTING AND POSITIONING THE CAMERA

MOUNTING

• After you’ve set up the camera’s parameters to your personal preferences at home, you’re ready to take it outside and slide the power switch to “ON”. When setting up the camera for scouting game or other outdoor applications, you must be sure to mount it in place correctly and securely. We recommend mounting the camera on a sturdy tree with a diameter of about 6in (15cm). To get the optimal picture quality, the tree should be about 16- 17ft (5m) away from the place to be monitored, with the camera placed at a height of 2.5-3.5ft (0.75-1m). Also, keep in mind that you will get the best results at night when the subject is within the ideal flash range, no farther than 65ft (20m) and no closer than 1 Oft (3m) from the camera.

• Note: Aiming a camera North will prevent capturing overex­posed photos pointed directly at the sun.

• There are two ways to mount the camera: using the provided adjustable straps or the tripod stand.

• Using the adjustable strap: Illustrates using the strap on the camera. Push one end of the strap through the two brackets on the back of the camera. Thread the end of the strap through the buckle. Fasten the strap securely around the tree trunk by pulling the end of the strap firmly so there is no slack left
  (Figure 8).

• Using the tripod stand: The camera is equipped with a socket at the bottom end to enable to mount on a tripod or other mounting accessories with a standard UNG 1/4-20 thread screw.

SENSING ANGLE AND DISTANCE TEST

• To test whether the camera can effectively monitor the area you choose, this test is recommended checking the sensing angle and monitoring distance of the camera. To perform the test: Switch the camera to the SETUP mode.
• The camera will countdown a max 10-second delay and be ready to capture motions. (Note: The delay time may be less than 10 seconds, depending on the actual time of the motion sensor to be activated. The delay time is 10 seconds minus the power-on time.)
• Close the camera door.
• Make movements in front of the camera at several positions within the area where you expect the game or subjects to be.
• Try different distances and angles from the camera.
• If the motion indicator LED light (Blue light) blinks, it signifies that the position is detectable. If it does not blink, that position is outside of the sensing area. In these sensing test, the camera would take pictures once motion captured. You can check the pictures and videos with the playback function.
• The results of your testing will help you find the best placement when mounting and aiming the camera. The height away from the ground for placing the device should vary with the animal size appropriately. In general, 3 to 6 feet is preferred.
• You can avoid potential false triggers due to temperature and motion disturbances in front of the camera by not aiming it at a heat source or nearby tree branches or brush (especially on windy days).
• Do NOT install the camera behind the glass window as that is is not possible to sense any motion. Avoid the camera toward to glass the object. requires 1.5V for proper functioning.

SWITCHING ON THE CAMERA

• If you set the camera working mode as “Time Lapse” in the menu, once you switch to the ON mode, the camera will be ready to go into “Time Lapse” mode, then take images periodi­cally according to your preset “Time lapse Interval” parameter . Before leaving the camera unattended, please check for the following:
  • Are the batteries inserted with correct polarity and is their power level sufficient?
  • Does the SD card have sufficient available space?
  • Is the power switch in the ON position?

REVIEW PHOTOS OR VIDEOS

• After you have setup, mounted and activated your CAMERA, you will be eager to return later and review the images it has captured for you. The camera stores photos and videos in the folder \DCIM in the SD card. Photos are saved with file names like 0001.JPG and videos like 0001.AVI. The AVI video files can be played back on most popular media players, such as Windows Media Player, VLC etc.
• There are several different ways this can be done.
• You can directly review the photos or videos on the camera screen.
• Or you can put the SD card to a SD card Reader (user supplied), plug in a computer, and browse the files on the computer without downloading.

FAQS

IMPORTANT NOTE

• Before inserting or removing the memory card, make sure the camera is turned off.
• When checking the camera in SETUP mode, the ambient light source may be unstable due to handheld movement. This can trigger the motion sensor, resulting in a clicking sound and a flashing screen. This is normal.
• It is recommended to use high-performance alkaline batteries to extend the camera’s usage time.
• Avoid using 1.2V rechargeable batteries as the trail camera requires 1.5V for proper functioning. Low battery voltage can lead to improper operation. After the battery is depleted, the camera will only have a few hours of operation remaining (the camera will display a low battery warning).
• When using the trail camera for the first time or if the camera cannot recognize the memory card, please format the memory card before use. Before installing the battery, confirm the correct battery polarity. Incorrect polarity may cause the camera to short-circuit and potentially damage it. Please note that the camera is not protected against short circuits.
• When using the product for the first time, remove the protective film from the lens and sensor to ensure the motion sensor is clean and undamaged. Any scratches or damage can affect the camera’s triggering performance.
• For on-site installation, ensure that the camera’s socket and the DC plug at the bottom are properly sealed to prevent damage from rain.
• The USB cable provided is for transferring files from the camera to the computer only. Do not use it to charge the camera or rechargeable batteries as this can severely damage the camera.
• Keep the camera lens and infrared window clean. If they become dirty, clean them with a soft glasses cloth. Do not use sharp objects that may scratch the LCD, camera lens, infrared sensor, or LED glass.
• When the battery level is low, promptly replace all batteries to avoid damage to the camera due to electrolyte leakage.

FAQs

• Q(1) In POWER-ON mode, the camera screen will turn off after 10 seconds. Will it not turn on afterwards?
  A: After setting up, please turn the switch to the ON position. After 10 seconds, the camera screen will turn off, indicating that it has entered the working state. It will continue to record according to your settings.

• Q(2) Off-road cameras are very useful during the day, but cannot capture anything at night?
  A: When the battery power is only 1/3, the camera may not be able to capture images at night. The camera requires a higher power output during nighttime due to the activation of built-in infrared LEDs for night vision. To ensure optimal performance, it is recommended using 1.5V AA lithium batteries (Energizer brand) as they last two to three times longer than regular batteries.

• Q(3) When I walk up to the camera, the blue light flashes, but the camera does not record anything?
  A: For automatic detection and recording, make sure the camera switch is in the ON position. If the blue light flashes when motion is detected, it indicates that the camera is still in SETUP mode. When the battery level is low, the camera will not take photos or record videos. It will display a black screen in the photo and record mode.

• Q(4) What if I forget my camera password?
  A: If the code is lost, turn the power switch to OFF at first. Then enter the universal password “1111” to restore normal functionality.

• Q(5) What should I do if there is glare in the photo?
  A: Glare may occur if the camera is pointing towards the sun. During installation, remember to consider the angle and position of the sun to obtain the best image quality during the day.

• Q(6) The camera continuously captures images without a subject/the number of triggers increases?
  A: If the PIR sensor detects motion and heat in front of the camera lens but there is no subject in the image, it may result in false triggering. This can be caused by moving branches in front of the camera, areas with high heat in the foreground, or motion caused by wind. Placing the camera on a water surface can also lead to this issue. To address this:

  • Try moving the camera to a location without these issues or adjust the “Sensitivity motion sensors” in the menu settings.
  • If the camera continues to capture images without a subject, try placing it in an indoor environment where there is no motion.
  • If the problem persists, it may be related to electronic components. In such cases, please contact our customer service.
  • Also, check if “Time lapse” is turned on and disable it if necessary.

• Q(7) Battery life is shorter than expected?
  A: Parameters such as camera series, video length, Shot lag, and Sensitivity motion sensors can affect the efficiency and battery life. Higher trigger frequencies can reduce battery life. It is recommended using Energizer 1.5V AA batteries for off-road cameras to achieve the longest battery life.

• Q(8) How to determine whether the camera’s motion sensor is working properly?
  A: Follow the instructions in the QUICKSTART GUIDE to set up the camera. After configuration, turn the power switch to SETUP mode.
  After approximately 10 seconds, walk in front of the camera. If the blue light flashes, it indicates that the camera’s infrared motion sensor is working properly. This method can also help you adjust the camera’s direction, angle, and determine whether the current position is within the monitoring range.

• Q(9) Why is my camera working normally in SETUP mode but unable to take photos in POWER-ON mode?
  A: If the camera is functioning properly in SETUP mode but doesn’t capture photos in POWER-ON mode, it could be due to the camera’s position or settings. These cameras are optimized for detecting targets in the horizontal range, so you may need to adjust the height and sensitivity settings. Ensure that the camera is positioned correctly and that the sensor and lens are oriented towards the target area to capture motion accurately within the expected range.

• Q(10) Why is there air in the trail camera? Is it a leak?
  A: The presence of air in the trail camera is not a sign of a leak. Inside the camera, there is a space that can contain air. When the temperature changes, the air inside may liquefy, resulting in water mist. However, when the temperature returns to normal, the water mist will disappear naturally.

• Q(11) The camera does not take photos?
  A: If the camera is not taking photos, consider the following possibilities:

• Q(12) The camera cannot take photos properly?
  A: If the camera is not capturing photos correctly, consider the following:

  • PIR protective film: Check if the PIR protective film is removed from the camera’s sensor. If the film is still attached, remove it to allow proper motion detection.
  • Installation position: Verify that the camera is installed within an effective range. Adjust the position if necessary to ensure it covers the desired area for motion detection.

• Q(13) The camera cannot be turned on normally?
  A: If the camera is not turning on properly, ensure that you insert each battery with the correct polarity. The negative or “flat” end of the battery should align with the long spring of each battery slot. Double-check the battery installation to ensure it is correct.

• Q(14) There are no images on the memory card?
  A: If you are not finding any images on the memory card, try the following steps:

  • Replace the memory card: If the current memory card is not functioning correctly, try using a different one to see if it resolves the issue.
  • Format the memory card: Format the memory card using the camera’s formatting function to ensure it is properly recognized and compatible with the camera.
  • Check recording functionality: Before using the camera, test its recording functionality with the newly formatted memory card to verify if it can successfully capture and store images.
