How to list your products

Identify your products

  • Product ID’s are part of the Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) System. This identification system is used by Amazon and across other stores, it is managed by GS1 Australia. GTIN’s ensure products are uniquely identified when being boughtand sold and they help sort and track items in transit.
  • Each GTIN pairs with a unique barcode which makes product ID’s scanable. In most cases, you will need to provide a GTIN when you create a new listing. For more information watch Product ID Overview.

To find a product ID:

  1. Check Category requirements for product IDs to see if your product has specific ID requirements.
  2. Look for ISBNs, UPC’s, EAN or JAN’s above or below the bar code on the packaging (or cover) of your product. GTIN-14s appear on the shipping container.

How does Amazon verify the authenticity of product UPCs?
We verify the authenticity of product UPC’s by checking the GS1 database. UPC’s that do not match the information provided by GS1 will be considered invalid. We recommend obtaining your UPC’s directly from GS1 (and not from other third parties selling UPC licences) to ensure that the appropriate information is reflected in the GS1 database.

How do I apply for a GTIN exemption?
Most products on Amazon need a GTIN however some products such as handmade product may not need one. Download the How to apply for a GTIN Exemption Guide to follow instructions on how to apply for a GTIN exemption in Seller Central.

  1. Match to an existing product listing: If you have a product that you want to sell that already exists on Amazon, you must match to the existing product detail page. When matching to an existing product listing, always review the product detail page to ensure that it accurately describes your product.
  2. Create a new product listing: If the product that you want to sell does not exist on Amazon, you can list a new product and Amazon will create a new product detail page. To ensure customers can make informed purchasing decisions, make sure that an international version of a product is not listed on the same ASIN as the local version of the same product.

What do I need to set up a product detail page?

What is a product detail page?

  • A product detail page is where customers view a product sold on Amazon. If you’ve shopped on the Amazon store, you’ll recognize the product detail page. It’s where customers can find all the relevant information about a particular item. When multiple sellers offer the same product, Amazon combines data from all the offers into one product detail page (so we can present customers with the best experience). If you’d like increased control over product detail pages that use your brand name enroll in a free service Amazon Brand Registry.
  • As you’re building your product detail pages, consider what will best help customers find your products, discover answers to their questions, and make a purchasing decision.
  • Download the Product Detail Page Guide for step-by-step guidance on how to create a strong product detail page.Amazon-Listings-Create-your-First-Product-fig- \(5\)

FAQ’s

What are restricted product categories?

Customers must be able to shop with confidence on Amazon, which is why some product categories (like certain grocery or personal care products) are known as “restricted product categories.” Amazon might require performance checks and other qualifications for you to sell certain brands or list items within restricted categories. You’ll be able to request approval from within Seller Central.
Please click here to view the different categories and requirements.

What are listings suppressions?

  • Our research shows that listings with complete product information, including images, category (item type), and titles (parent titles) with less than 80 characters improve the shopping experience by making it easier for customers to find, evaluate, and purchase products. As a result, we will hide (or suppress) from search and browse non-media listings that do not meet certain standards. This means that a customer will not be able to find your listing in search if your listing is suppressed.
  • Please click here to view the reasons for listing suppression and how to fix it.

What is the Listing Quality Dashboard

  • The Listing Quality Dashboard is a tool on Seller Central that highlights important product information for customers. These recommendations are focused on helping you improve the discoverability of your products, enabling better customer experiences like Product overview or Tabular spec view, and helping to reduce returns on your products as a result of poor listing quality.
  • Please click here to visit the Listing Quality Dashboard. Or, go to Catalogue, then click Improve Listing Quality.

If I need to make changes to my listings, how do I do that?

  • You can make changes to your listings by visiting the Manage Inventory Page, you can select
  • Edit in the dropdown to make changes to your attributes on that listing.
  • Select Inventory then Manage All Inventory to visit this page.
