IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

WARNING – To guard against injury, basic safety precautions should be observed including the following:

  1. READ AND FOLLOW ALL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS.

  2. DANGER – To avoid possible electric shock, special care should be taken since water is employed in the use of aquarium equipment. For each of the following situations, do not attempt to repair yourself.
    A. If the appliance shows any sign of abnormal water leakage, immediately unplug it from power.
    B. Carefully examine the appliance after installation. It should not be plugged in if there is water on the parts not intended to be wet.
    C. Do not operate any appliance if it has a damaged cord or plug, if it is malfunctioning or if it is dropped or damaged in any manner.
    D. To avoid the possibility of the appliance plug getting wet, position aquarium stand and tank to one side of a wall mounted receptacle to prevent water from dripping onto the receptacle or plug. A “drip loop”, shown in the figure below, should be arranged by the user for each cord connecting an aquarium appliance to the receptacle. The “drip loop” is the part of the cord below the level of the receptacle, or the connector if an extension cord is used, to prevent water traveling along the cord and coming in contact with the receptacle. If the plug or receptacle does get wet, DO NOT unplug the cord. Disconnect the fuse to the circuit breaker that supplies power to the appliance. Then unplug and examine for the presence of water in the receptacle.

  3. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.

  4. To avoid injury, do not contact moving parts or hot parts such as heaters, reflectors, lamp bulbs, and the like.

  5. Always unplug the appliance from the outlet when not in use, before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning. Never yank the cord to pull plug from outlet. Grasp the plug and pull to disconnect.

  6. Do not use an appliance for other than intended use.
The use of attachments not recommended or sold by the appliance manufacturer may cause an unsafe condition.

  7. Do not install or store the appliance where it will be exposed to the weather or to temperatures below freezing.

  8. Make sure an appliance mounted on a tank is securely installed before operating it.

  9. Read and observe all the important notices on the appliance.

  10. If an extension cord is necessary, a cord with a proper rating should be used. A cord rated for less amperes or watts than the appliance rating may overheat. Care should be taken to arrange the cord so that it will not be tripped over or pulled.
Read And Follow All Safety Instructions
ONLY FOR POLARIZED ATTACHMENT PLUG APPLIANCES

  11. This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other) as a safety feature, this plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug.
If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Never use with an extension cord unless plug can be fully inserted. Do not attempt to defeat this safety feature.

Installation Instructions

  1. Connect pump to bottom cap of reaction chamber.

  2. Route airline tubing.
    a. If using with BioCube® 29 or 32 aquarium, route the airflow tubing between prongs located on the top reaction chamber cap
    Installation Instructions
    b. If using with BioCube® 14 or 16 or other standard aquarium, connect large hanging clip to reaction chamber tube using the tube clip.
NOTE: The large hanging clip, suction cup and tube clip are preassembled.
    Installation Instructions

  3. Place unit in aquarium.
    a. If using with BioCube® 29 or 32 aquarium, use small hanging clip to hang protein skimmer on the wall between chambers one and two. Use small hanging clip to hang protein skimmer on the wall between chambers one and two.
    Installation Instructions
    b. If using with a BioCube® 14 or 16 aquarium, Remove the media basket from chamber 2 of the BioCube® aquarium. Then place the skimmer inside chamber 2 using the large adjustable hanging clip with suction to hang the skimmer on the wall between chambers 1 and 2 with the skimmer in chamber 2. Use hanging clip to adjust protein skimmer so that the top collection cup is low enough for the lid to close properly. Because water level can change in this chamber due to evaporation, it is important to maintain a high water level and top off frequently to reduce fluctuations.
    c. If using with a standard aquarium, use the large adjustable hanging clip with suction cup; hang on side wall of aquarium. Use hanging clip to adjust protein skimmer so that the top reaction chamber cap is at water level. Collection cup needs to be completely above water level.

  4. Place collection cup on top reaction chamber cap. There are 2 small prongs on the top of the top reaction chamber cap. Align the cup, using the inset in the cap, and snap into place.
This locks the collection cup in place.

  5. Return lid to top of collection cup.

  6. Plug in protein skimmer; remember to incorporate the drip loop (see page 2). Adjust airflow adjuster so bubbles stay just above the top of the reaction chamber.

  7. When collection cup fills, remove and dispose of waste material.

Performing Maintenance

  1. Collection Cup
    a. Remove collection cup to dispose of waste and rinse with clean water. Replace cleaned collection cup and lid back on the reaction chamber.
    b. Emptying the collection cup will vary depending on the density of skimmed and type of livestock/corals in the aquarium.

  2. Cleaning Airflow Tubing
    a. Unplug protein skimmer.
    b. Detach airline tubing from clamp and motor housing.
    c. Rinse tubing with clean water, making sure water is running through the tube. Do not use soaps or detergents.
    d. Rinse the black airflow adjuster to remove any salt deposits.
    e. Reconnect open end of tube to motor housing.
    f. Route the airline tubing to clamp.
    g. Place unit back on aquarium, plug into outlet. Remember to incorporate the drip loop (see page 2).

  3. Cleaning Intake Tube
    a. Unplug protein skimmer.
    b. Remove entire unit from aquarium.

    b. Remove skimmer from aquarium.
    c. Remove collection cup – empty, rinse and set aside.
    d. Disconnect motor housing from reaction chamber.
    e. Fill the reaction chamber with warm water and gently shake to loosen stuck on debris. Rinse thoroughly under warm water to remove loosened debris. Do not use detergents or abrasive materials to clean the chamber.
    f. Reconnect motor housing to reaction chamber.
    g. Route the airflow tubing to clamp.
    h. Place collection cup on top of reaction chamber, add lid.
    i. Place unit back on aquarium, plug into outlet. Remember to incorporate the drip loop (see page 2).

    a. Unplug protein skimmer.
    b. Remove and rinse debris from collection cup; set aside.
    c. Remove protein skimmer from aquarium, empty and rinse reaction chamber.
    d. Detach bottom reaction chamber cap from motor housing assembly. (The intake tube will likely stay attached when doing this.)
    e. Remove the motor housing top from the motor housing assembly. Remove by pulling the motor housing top from the motor housing; the fit will be tight.
Once removed, the impeller will be visible.
    f. Remove impeller, rinse with cool water to remove debris; set aside.
    g. Wipe out inside of motor housing then rinse motor housing under cool water to remove debris.
    h. Once cleaned, reinsert impeller into motor housing.
    i. Reattach motor housing top to motor housing. Make sure the airflow tubing and intake tube are securely fastened in place.
    j. Reconnect motor housing to bottom reaction chamber cap.
    k. Return protein skimmer to aquarium, return collection cup to top reaction chamber cap.
    l. Plug in unit.

Troubleshooting

  1. If you have too many microbubbles:
    Turn down the air flow.

  2. Air flow is restricted:
Clean air intake. Salt can crust over the air intake, restricting the air flow. Simply rinse the tube with warm water to remove salt.

  3. If foam is too wet:
Adjust protein skimmer so that the top reaction chamber cap is at water level. Collection cup needs to be completely above water level.
