Function keys

On / O button (7)

  • Device turned o : to turn on the device, hold down the power button (7) for 4 seconds.
  • During operation of the device:
    • to blank the screen ­ press the power button (7),
    • to turn on the screen ­ press the power button (7) again,
    • to turn o the device, press and hold the power button (7) for 2 seconds, then select O .

Volume button (5)
When the device is on: press the volume button (5) up or down to increase or decrease the volume level. A bar with the current volume will appear on the device screen.

ATTENTION!: With the volume below 11%, the sound will be barely audible. Setting the volume to 0% will completely mute the device. This means that you will not hear the pronunciation while translating phrases and learning vocabulary.

Battery charging

  • Plug the charger into an electric socket and the USB cable into the device (14) in order to charge the battery.

  • After connecting the charger, the battery indicator moves to charging mode .

  • The battery is fully charged after about 4 hours.

  • After the battery is charged, remove the charger and the USB cable.

    To charge the battery use the charger provided by the manufacturer or if the charger is not provided, use the charger that has the following parameters:

  • Input: AC 100-240V 50/60hz 0.4A Max.

  • Output: DC 5V 1A.

Handling during long periods of inactivity

Storage

Before preparing the device for a long period of inactivity, please do the following:

  • charge the battery to 50%
  • turn the device o
  • store the device in a cool and shaded place
  • try to turn on the device and charge up to 50% at least once a month.

Starting the device a er a long period of inactivity

Turn the device on by pressing and holding the power button (7) for about 4 seconds. If the device does not respond, connect the USB cable and plug it into the charger.
Disposal of this product

Please dispose of this product in accordance with local regulations.
In-built SIM card

The device is equipped with an international SIM card that allows it to work without Wi-Fi. The in-built SIM card doesnt require any contract, it works only on Vasco Translator V4.
Initial start up

Press and hold the power button (7) for about 4 seconds to turn the device on.

Voice Translator

The application is designed to translate a conversation of two speakers who use di erent languages.
Vasco Translator V4 recognizes the voice and translates entire sentences into supported languages.
The translated sentence is displayed on the screen and spoken aloud. The full list of supported languages is available on the manufacturer’s website.

Initial start-up

When you turn on the application for the first time, the welcome screen will appear. To proceed, press Start.

The top bar contains the sharing menu and the application options menu. There are speech recognition buttons on the bottom bar. There is a translation box in the central part of the screen.

Language selection:
To change the language, tap the name of the currently used language, and then select the language you want to use from the list.

Speech translation
To start speech recognition, press the microphone icon . You can also use the physical buttons located on the right edge of the device. The lower button corresponds to the language on the le , the upper button corresponds to the language on the right side of the home screen.

A er pressing the button, the device starts recognizing speech. Recognition ends when the device stops hearing the speech ­ when there is silence or a long pause in speaking. By holding down the button, the device recognizes speech until you release it.

The phrases you say will appear on the screen as text and then will be translated into the selected language. If the pronunciation of the selected language is supported, the phrases will additionally be spoken aloud.

Press a phrase to read it out loud again. Press and hold a phrase to share with or delete with .

Sharing:

Vasco Translator V4 enables sending the translated texts to a selected e-mail address.

To share a translation, open the share menu, then select the translations you want to share in the list and press Share.

Enter the e-mail address to which you want to send the selected translations and press Send.

Application settings

In the options you will find additional functions and settings of the application.

Automatic speech if pronunciation is available for the selected language, it will be played as soon as the phrase is translated.
Saving a conversation saving the translated text in the interlocutor’s translation history. Clear conversation delete the translation history in the conversation. Photo Translator

Application designed to translate printed text. Vasco Translator V4 allows you to recognize text from pictures and translate it into a chosen language.

A er starting the application, the welcome screen will appear. To proceed, press Start.

There are flash options on the top bar. There is a shutter at the bottom of the screen. The camera screen and the language selection menu are displayed in the central part.
Language selection

Tap the Translate to field, and then select the target language from the list to translate the text from a photo. You can change the language both before and a er taking a photo. The language of the text in the photo will be detected automatically.

Taking a photo:

Aim your camera lens at the text you want to translate. The photo must cover all the text.

Autofocus:

The camera is equipped with autofocus. A clear and sharp photo is needed for a correct translation.

You can select the focus point yourself by clicking on the appropriate place on the camera screen.

Zooming in:

You can adjust the zoom by pinching or spreading your fingers on the camera screen.

Flash lamp:

To change flash settings, expand the flash menu located on the top bar. By default, the flash is set to auto.

Translating text from a picture

A er taking the photo, Vasco Translator V4 will start detecting and translating the text. You can cancel the text detection and translation by tapping . If the text hasn’t been recognized, you will see the following message: “Text not recognized. Take a picture again”. Translation result:

The translated text will be displayed on the screen a er the detection and translation process is completed.

Display mode:

To change the display mode, press .

Zooming in:

You can zoom in or out of the translation text by pinching or spreading your fingers on the device screen.

You can slide your finger on the screen in the photo area to find the fragment that you’re specifically looking for.

Sharing:

Vasco Translator V4 allows you to send translations from a photo to an e-mail address.

To share a translation , open the share menu.

Enter the e-mail address to which you want to send the selected translations and press Send.

Taking another photo:

Press to exit the sharing screen.

To return to camera view, tap on .

Text Translator

An application designed to translate words and texts entered via speech or keyboard.

A er starting the application, the welcome screen will appear. To proceed, press Start.

The top bar contains the history, application options. The bottom bar contains text entry buttons. In the central part there is a language selection menu and a translation field.
Languages selection
The source language and the target language are displayed in the language selection bar. If you want to change the language, tap the language name and then select a di erent language from the list that appears. You can change the translation direction by tapping on .
Entering text
Keyboard:

Press , then enter the text you would like to translate and confirm with . The translated text will be displayed on the screen and then translated into a selected language. If the pronunciation of the selected language is supported, the phrase will additionally be spoken aloud. Press a phrase to read it out loud again. If the keyboard button is disabled, it means that keyboard input in the selected language is not supported. Voice

You can press and hold the selected translation to select it. You can share selected translations by pressing or delete by pressing .

To share translations from history, tap on , then select the translations you want to share and tap on .

To delete the translations from history tap on .

and next select the translations you want to delete, then tap on

Sharing:

To share the translations, tap on , then select the translations you want to share and tap on . Enter the e-mail address to which you want to send the selected translations and press Send. Press to exit the sharing screen.

Application settings:

translated. Saving history if this option is enabled, the translations history will be saved on the device. From language choosing the source language. To language choosing the target language.
Press to go back to the main menu.

MultiTalk

MultiTalk is an application designed for chatting with other users.

Each user can write in their native language, and messages will be automatically translated into languages chosen by others.

A er starting the application, the welcome screen will appear. To proceed, press Start.

The home screen includes the following functions: creating chats, joining existing ones and displaying the user’s chats list.
Create chat

To create a new chat, tap on Create chat. Chat name: Enter a chat name. The default name is “Vasco DD/MM/RRRR”. User name: Enter your nickname. It will be visible to all chat participants. Your nickname will be remembered by the application, but you can change it each time you join a new chat. Your language: Select the language in which you want to write and receive messages. By default, it is the same as the menu language of the device or the language selected previously. Creating chat: To create a new chat, tap on Create chat. A er creating a chat, a QR code and chat number will appear. See: Inviting to a chat via chat number or Inviting to a chat via QR code. To send an e-mail with chat invitation, tap on Invite via e-mail. See: Inviting participants via e-mail. To open a chat, tap on Enter a chat. Join chat:

Chat number:

Enter the chat number shared by another user. See: Joining a chat via chat number.

Scan the QR code:

Instead of typing in the chat number manually, you can scan the QR code shared by another user. See: Joining a chat via QR Code.

User name:

Enter your nickname. It will be visible to other chat participants. Your nickname will be remembered by the application, but you can change it each time you join a new chat.

Your language:

Select the language in which you want to write and receive messages. By default, it is the same as the menu language of the device or the language selected previously.

Join chat:

A er filling in the above fields, press Join chat to join a selected chat.
My chats

Press My Chats to view a list of the chats you are participating in. Tap on the name of a chat to open the chat window.

Chat options in my chats list:

Press the option button next to the chat name to view additional options.

Change the chat name:

Enables the change of a chat name. To rename a chat, enter the new name using the keyboard, then press the

on the keyboard.

Delete a chat:

To delete a chat, press Delete chat and then confirm by pressing Delete.

Settings:

Automatic speech if pronunciation is available for the selected language, it will be played as soon as the phrase is translated.

Show original text additional display of the source text of the message (before translation) over the translated messages.

Send automatically sending the messages straight a er entering them, without confirmation. Applies to voice input messages only.

On the top bar there is the icon of the chat participants list and the chat options button. The bottom bar contains the text input buttons.

Chat options:

Share history ­ enables sending all chat messages to a selected e-mail address. Chat Information ­ includes the chat number and QR code that you can share with other users to invite them to chat. It also gives you the option to invite other users by e-mail. See: Inviting Users via Chat Number, Inviting Users via QR Code, and Inviting Users via e-mail. Settings ­ the list of application settings. See: Settings.

Remarks

Tap on a received message to have it read aloud. If for some reason the message is not translated automatically, it is possible to translate it using the icon.

Entering a message:

Please enter messages in your language in the chat. They will be automatically translated into the languages of the other chat participants.

Voice input of messages:
Press to start speech recognition. You can also use the physical buttons on the right edge of the device.

The spoken phrases will appear on the screen as text. If Automatic sending is enabled in the application options, messages will be sent to other chat participants without additional confirmation.

To enter a message using the keyboard, press , then enter the text you want to send and confirm with or . In case of some languages, keyboard input is not supported. If the keyboard button is disabled, it means that keyboard input in the selected language is not supported. Chat participants: Press to view the chat participants list. The features of blocking and unblocking participants are only available to the moderator (owner) of the chat. Blocking chat participants: To block a chat participant, press the next to their name. Unblocking chat participants: To unblock a previously blocked chat participant, press the next to the username. Add a participant: Press Add participant to add more people to the chat. See: Joining and inviting users to chat. Press to go back to the main menu.
Joining and inviting chat participants
Inviting participants via chat number: To invite a user using a chat number, press Add participant, and then send or show the chat number there to the user you want to add to the chat. The Add participant option is available on the empty chat screen and the participant list. You can also go to Chat Information. See Create a chat, Chat screen, and Chat options Joining via chat number: To join the chat using a chat number, select Join chat on the main application screen and enter the chat number shared with you in the Chat number field. Enter your nickname in the Username field and select a language from the list in the Your language field, then press Join chat. Inviting participants via QR code:

To invite a user using a QR code, tap on Add participant, then show the QR code to the user you want to add to the chat.

The Add participant option is available on the empty chat screen and on the participant list.

You can also go to Chat Information.

Joining via QR code:

To join the chat via QR code, select Join chat on the main application screen and press Scan QR code. Aim the camera lens at the QR code provided to you. If the QR code is recognized correctly, the app will automatically enter the chat number in the Chat number field. A er reading the QR code, enter your username in the Username field and select a language from the list in the Your language field, then press Join chat.

Inviting participants via e-mail:

To invite a user via e-mail, tap on Add participant and then Invite via e-mail. A er selecting this option, enter the e-mail address of the invited person and the language they speak. A er entering this data, click Add to the list, which will add the entered e-mail address. If necessary, the addresses of additional persons can be added in the same way. Send invitations by pressing Send e-mail. Invited users will receive an e-mail with chat number and QR code, which will allow them to join the chat. Press to go back to the main menu.

Learning

Application designed to learn vocabulary. Learning is possible without an Internet access. Lessons are built based on word categories and their di iculty level. The vocabulary base is updated regularly.

A er starting the application, the welcome screen will appear. To proceed, press Start and then select the language you want to learn.

On the top bar is a menu of application options. On the home screen, there is a counter of the completed lessons.

Tap on the flag below to see the list of languages, then select the one you want to learn.

Language selection

To change the language you want to learn, tap on the flag in the middle of the screen, slide the list and tap on the

appropriate flag. You can also change the language by selecting the Learning language option in the application

settings.

The languages that you have already started learning and the information on your learning progress will be displayed at the top of the list.

Lesson

Tap Lesson to start learning.

The words in your language appear first, then in the language you’re learning.

You can change the language order by tapping Direction in the application settings.

You can change the learning order in application options.

To learn the word in the language you are learning, press the .

The word will be read out automatically.

If you guessed the meaning of the word correctly, tap on I know or drag the card to the right.

If you did not know the meaning of the word, press I don’t know or drag the card to the le .

The words you didn’t know will appear in the next lessons.

A er the lesson is completed, a list of results will be displayed. You can change the learning status of a word by ressingthe

next to it. Press OK to continue. Select Next Lesson to continue learning or Exit to return to the home screen.

To interrupt a lesson, press the on the top bar. Interrupting a lesson will cause you to lose progress on that lesson.

My progress

The My Progress tab displays the learning progress statistics and a list of words that have been marked as known. A er tapping on a word from the list, a note will be displayed showing the word in both languages. If you want this word to reappear in future lessons, press Repeat.

Application settings

Automatic speech If this option is selected, words will be read aloud in the language you are learning. Language order Tap to change the order in which the words are displayed. Learning language Tap to change the language you’re learning. Clear progress Press to clear learning progress in all or only selected languages from the device memory. Press to go back to the main menu.

Device settings

Go to “Device settings” to set up your Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connection, to change the speech rate, check the updates or change the application language etc.

Connection

Wi-Fi:

The Wi-Fi settings allow you to run the Wi-Fi module and select the Wi-Fi network you want to connect to.
The icon indicates that there is an open Wi-Fi network available.
The icon indicates that there is a password-protected Wi-Fi network available.
The icon indicates that the device is not connected with any Wi-Fi network. ATTENTION: A network without a padlock means that this network is open. You dont need any password to connect to it. Please note, that some open networks require additional actions to be taken such as logging in or accepting terms and conditions. Its not possible to use this type of network.

Bluetooth:

The Bluetooth settings allow you to start the Bluetooth module and establish connection with the selected device. Press the icon to pair your device with another device or accessory.

System:

Press Press Press Press

to change the menu language. to check for updates. to change the speech rate. to change screen brightness or set automatic brightness.

Device:

Press to display information such as product / device ID, sim card number, so ware version etc. Press to display the license agreement. Press to delete data and restore factory settings.
Status bar

Current battery status:

The icon and the percentage next to it indicate the battery charge status.

The icon shows that the device is charging. Wi-Fi:
The icon means that the device is not connected to any Wi-Fi network.

The icon indicates the strength of Wi-Fi coverage and the active network connection.

Bluetooth:

The icon The icon shows that the Bluetooth module is on, but the device is not connected to another device. shows that a connection with another device is established.

GSM:

The icon The icon The icon The icon The icon informs that there is no SIM card in the port. indicates recognition of SIM card. informs about the lack of GSM coverage or about problems with the GSM network. informs about the GSM coverage level. indicates that the GSM connection is active.

Sound:

The icon indicates that the device is muted.
Status bar panel

Swipe the screen down to display the status bar panel.

The icon shows the current battery status.

The icon shows the strength of the GSM signal.

Tap to enter the Wi-Fi settings.

The icon indicates that the Wi-Fi module is o .

Tap to turn on/o the flashlight.

Slide to set the right volume level.

Slide to set the right brightness level.

Swipe the screen up to hide the status bar panel.

Additional TTS voices

This option allows you to download and install additional voices for the selected languages.
Voice bought together with the translator

A TTS voice is not included in all languages. If you purchased the voice together with a translator, you don’t need to do anything else.
It will be installed on the device that we send to you and a er selecting the language, the translations will be read aloud.
Buying additional voices

TTS voice purchase

If you already have the Vasco translator and you want to buy an additional voice, visit the Vasco Electronics store website and add a selected voice to your cart. A er paying for the order, you will receive an email with an activation code and installation instructions.

TTS voice activation in the device

To download and install an additional voice, from the main menu, go to the device settings voices” . select “Additional

Press “Enter code” to provide the code using the keyboard or to scan it with the camera. A er entering the code, press

Activate.

If you entered the code correctly, the voice will be automatically downloaded and installed on your device.

The download time of one voice depends on your internet connection speed and may take approx. 15-20 minutes on average. You can still use the translator while the download is in progress, but do not turn o the device.

ATTENTION! You can only download a voice over a WiFi network. Make sure you are connected to the network before entering the code on the device.

The icon next to a language name means that the voice has already been installed.

The next to the language name means the download has been paused. Check your Wi-Fi connection. Downloading will resume once connection is established.

An animated icon means that the voice download and activation are in progress.

Voices which are available in the online store, but have not yet been purchased or activated on your device, are marked with the icon .
