Product Usage Instructions
Preparation
Ensure the wooden deck is clean and dry before application. Remove any existing coatings if necessary.
Treatment
Stir the Alkyd terrasseolie before and during use. Apply the oil evenly using a paintbrush or paint roller. Make sure to cover the entire surface and apply extra oil if dry spots appear.
Absorption
Avoid allowing the oil to form a glossy layer. Any excess oil that is not absorbed by the wood should be removed within 30 minutes after application.
Maintenance
Clean the treated wooden deck regularly by sweeping and washing as needed. Use a brush, a soft water jet, and a suitable cleaner like Husrens. Consider retreating the deck every/every other year based on current conditions.
Restrictions
Avoid using Alkyd terrasseolie on bituminous substrates or surfaces previously treated with opaque wood protection paint or water-based paint without complete removal of the existing treatment.
FAQ
- Q: How often should I retreat my wooden deck with Alkyd terrasseolie?
- A: It is recommended to retreat the deck every/every other year, depending on the current conditions.
- Q : What should I do if the substrate leaves dry spots after applying the oil?
- A: Apply extra oil to the dry spots to ensure proper saturation and protection of the wood.
- Q: How should I clean the tools used for applying Alkyd terrasseolie?
- A: Clean the tools with white spirit followed by soap and water to maintain their effectiveness for future use.
INTRODUCTION
Alkyd terrasseolie is a linseed-based alkyd oil with wood protective agents. Alkyd oil has great penetrative properties contributes to protecting the wood against wood-decaying fungi, and enhances its dimensional stability.
Areas of application
Initial treatment as well as retreatment of exterior wooden terraces. Treating with terrasseolie helps protect the wood from drying out. When the wood substrate is sufficiently saturated with oil, it is less prone to absorbing water, and therefore less vulnerable to wood-decaying fungi. The pigments in the terrace oil help protect the wood against the sun’s degrading effect.
Substrate
Substrate must be clean, dry, firm and free from staining. Humidity of the
wood at the time of application must be below 18%. Material, air and substrate
temperature must be 10°C – 25°C.
treatment
Stir before and during use. Apply with a paintbrush or paint roller. Apply
extra oil if the substrate leaves dry spots. Terrasseolie must not be allowed
to form a glossy layer. Oil that is not absorbed by the substrate must be
removed within 30 minutes after application
Restrictions
Terrasseolie is not suitable for use on bituminous substrates, or on
substrates, that have been treated with opaque wood protection paint or water-
based paint, without complete removal of existing wood treatment.
Warning
Avoid working on substrates above 50°C, as harmful fumes may develop. Cloth
that has been used for oiling, can self-ignite, and must therefore be soaked
and discarded or burned immediately after use.
Maintenance
Wooden patios that have been treated with terasseolie must be cleaned by e.g. sweeping and washing as often as necessary. Wash with a brush, soft water jet and a suitable cleaner e.g. Husrens. Retreatment every/every other year, depending on current conditions.
The mentioned information is based on laboratory experiments and practical testing at 20°C and 85% RH. If the temperature or humidity of the material, the substrate or the surroundings deviate from this, the product properties, drying and curing times are affected. A general responsibility for paint treatment cannot be given, due to the many caveats that may arise regarding the substrate, application method, etc. Where the consumption of paint extend over more batches, these should be intermixed to avoid sheen and shade differences. It is the user’s responsibility to always obtain new and revised product sheets. We reserve the right to make changes without notice. We reserve the right to print errors. In case of inconsistency between language versions, the Danish version applies.
