This guide provides a brief introduction to the Smart Wire-Free Security Camera and the Tape app, as well as regulatory information. Please note that features available in Tape may vary by model and software version. Tape availability may also vary by region. All images, steps, and descriptions in this guide are only examples and may not reflect your actual Tape Camera experience.

Smart Wire-Free Security Camera is a full-featured weatherproof security camera that you can access from anywhere. Receive instant notifications and check feeds when the motion is detected. Moreover, the automatic siren system will trigger light and sound to frighten away unwanted visitors after the camera detects motion

    Press and hold for about 3 seconds to turn on/off the camera.

  8. Speaker

    Open the cover. Insert a microSD card and initialize it on the Tape app for local recording.
    microSD card not included.

  10. Reset Button
    Open the cover. Use a pin to press and hold for at least 5 seconds to reset the camera to factory default settings.

  11. USB Micro B Charging Port
    Open the cover for USB charging.

Charge the Battery

The battery comes partially charged. We recommend that you fully charge the battery before use. This will take about five and a half hours with the included charger

Note:

  1. Peel off film from the camera before use.
  2. Warning: Do not tear off the silicone part by force as it may affect the waterproof performance.
  3. When you plug in the USB charger, the LED should blink amber quickly for 3 seconds. If not, make sure the power is running and check your connection.
  4. Charge the battery using the USB cable and charger included in the package. Inappropriate cables may result in slow charging or failure to charge.
  5. Keep the ports firmly covered when not in use to ensure waterproof performance.
  6. Check the battery status in the Tapo app after setup.

Set Up Your Camera

Follow the steps below to get started with your new camera.

Set Up Using Amazon Frustration-Free Setup

Note : Amazon Frustration-Free Setup is only available for Tape C425. TC85 doesn’t support Amazon Frustration-Free Setup.

What is Amazon Frustration-Free Setup?

Amazon Frustration-Free Setup can help connect and set up Tape smart devices in fewer steps, without having to remember and re-enter your Wi-Fi password on each device

To use this feature, confirm the following:

  • The new Tape device supports Amazon FFS.
  • The new Tape device is purchased from Amazon.
  • You have an Amazon FFS enabled Alexa device or router.
  • You have saved your Wi-Fi information to Amazon by using Alexa echo.
  • Your Tapo device and router are on the same network as your Alexa echo.

If the LED does not turn solid green after a long time, you can try to add the Tape device manually. (Press the Reset button on your Tape device once Then open the Tape app, tap the + button on the page, select your device model, and follow the app instructions. )

How to use Amazon Frustration-Free Setup with Tape devices

  1. Open the Amazon Alexa app. Then tap More and select Skills & Games.

  2. Enter Tape in the search bar and choose Tape.

  3. Tap the ENABLE TO USE button

  4. Log in with your TP-Link ID that has bound to your Tape device, and tap Authorize. After authorized successfully, the message Tape has been successfully linked will come up.

  5. Plug in your Tape device and the setup will complete automatically in two minutes.
    For setting up more Tape devices, just plug in and enjoy!

Done!
If this device displays on the Home page in the Tape app, it indicates this device has been successfully associated with your Amazon account and joined your Wi-Fi network automatically

If this device does not display on the Home page in the Tape app, try setting it up manually. (Tap the + button on the page, select your device model, and then follow the app instructions.)

Mounting Tips

Read mounting tips before you mount the camera.

  1. Avoid placing behind glass. Glass will obstruct the motion sensor of your camera.

  2. Choose a proper location to mount your camera, or it will be triggered too often by false alarms.

    • Avoid pointing the camera directly at swaying trees.
    • Avoid pointing the camera directly at vehicles and pedestrians on the road.
    • Avoid pointing the camera directly at street lamps and sunlight
  3. Mount your camera to the side so that movement goes across the Len’s field of view to better trigger motion detection and AI detection.

  4. Tilt the camera downwards at an angle of about 15°.

  5. Do not place the camera upside down.

  6. Keep the motion sensor level for best results.
    Mounting Tips

Mount Your Camera

When you finish adding your camera in the Tapo app, you can follow the steps below to mount the camera.

Note : You can always get detailed mounting instructions in the Tapo app.

Option 1: Mount to metallic surfaces

The camera has a magnet in its base, allowing magnetic attachment to metallic surfaces.

Option 2: Stick to a clean wall

  1. Attach the included adhesive to the back of the metal plate properly.
    Note : The adhesive is for one-time use. Avoid re-using the adhesive to ensure its adhesion.

  2. Wipe off the dust from the surface, stick the metal plate with the adhesive to the clean wall, and press it down for 15 seconds to ensure the plate is firmly attached. Then attach the camera to the plate
    Note : This is applicable with tile, glass, marble, metal, stainless steel, and hard wall surfaces. Sticking to other surfaces may result in damage from falling off.

Option 3. Mount to a wall

  1. Stick the mounting template to a desired mounting place. Drill two holes according to the template.

  2. Insert two anchors into the holes and use the screws to affix the metal plate over the anchors. Then attach the camera to the plate
    Note : The front with concave holes of the metal plate should face the magnetic base.

Work with Tape Solar Panel

The Tape Solar Panel charges your Smart Wire-Free Security Camera continuously.

If you don’t yet have a Tapo Solar Panel, charge the rechargeable battery with a standard and high-quality DC 5V/2A battery charger. Keep the charging port firmly covered when fully charged

Note : If you use a third-party solar panel to charge this camera, we cannot guarantee the waterproof performance.
