Safety instructions

  • Carrera RC boat is a remote controlled model boat that uses special rechargeable batteries for this purpose. Only original Carrera RC LiFePO rechargeable batteries may be used. Rechargeable batteries are to be removed from the boat before being charged.

  • Please note particularly that the propellers and the boat have no function out of the water. When starting, always switch on the boat first, screw the cover closed and then place it in the water, before switching on the controller. To switch off after the run, always follow the reverse order!

  • Do not run your boat during a thunderstorm! Atmospheric interference can lead to malfunctions.
Do not expose the Carrera RC boat to direct sunlight. To avoid the electronics in the boat overheating when temperatures are above 35 °C, regular short pauses in operation are essential / Never use strong solvents for cleaning your model.

  • Please clean the water sensor contacts regularly with tap water and a little vinegar-based cleaner.

  • To avoid malfunctions to the control system resulting in uncontrolled operation of the Carrera RC boat, check that the controller batteries and the rechargeable batteries in the boat have sufficient charge. Supply terminals are not to be short-circuited. The Carrera RC boat must be inspected before and after operation, each time it is used, to ensure that it has not become disassembled. Any screws or nuts that may have become loosened during operation must be tightened.

  • Do not take hold of your model at the stern. The boat’s propeller may unexpectedly start to rotate.

  • Only take hold of your boat at the bow or at the sides and never touch the controller when doing this.

Safety propeller

  • The propeller switches off on being taken out of the water. Please note particularly that the propel- lers have no function out of the water.
  • The boat cannot be operated on the ground. The boat is to be operated in water only when fully assembled. This boat is unsuitable for sailing in salt water! Please ensure your remote control batteries have the required capacity and make sure the LiFePO power pack is fully charged.
  • Be sure not to allow the propeller or the rudder to touch the bed of the water. If this is allowed to happen it may lead to permanent damage and severely affect the manoeuvrabil- ity and speed of the boat. If necessary, change the propeller for the replacement propeller.

Contents of package

  • 1x USB charger cable
  • 1x Rechargeable Battery
  • 1 x Set of batteries (non-rechargeable)

Charging the rechargeable battery via computer

Rechargeable batteries are to be removed from the toy before being charged. Take care only to charge the LiFePO battery supplied with the LiFePO charging unit (USB charger cable) also supplied. If you attempt to recharge the battery with any other LiFePO battery charger or any other type of charger, this may result in serious damage. Please carefully read the previous chapter with warnings and guidelines on the usage of rechargeable batteries before proceeding. You can recharge the rechargeable battery with the respective USB charger cable from a computer USB port (USB 3.0) or a USB power supply unit with atleast 1A output voltage:

  • Connect the USB charger cable with the USB port of a computer 1) . The LED on the USB charger cable lights green and indicates that the charger is correctly connected to the computer. If you plug in a model that has an empty battery, the LED on the USB charging cable no longer lights up, and shows that the battery is being recharged. The USB charging cable and the charging socket on the model are designed to make incorrect connection impossible. 2
  • It lasts about 50 minutes to recharge a discharged (NOT a deep-discharged) battery. When the battery is fully charged, the LED display on the USB charger cable lights green again.

Note: when delivered, the LiFePO, rechargeable battery contained is already part-charged, so the first charging operation will not last so long.

Always recharge the battery after use to prevent its becoming deep discharged. After use, the battery must be allowed to cool down for at least 20 minutes before it can be fully recharged. Recharge the battery occasionally (suggested every 2-3 months). Supply terminals are not to be short-circuited. Failure to treat the battery as described above can lead to its becoming defective. Never leave the battery unattended while it is being charged.

Installing the rechargeable battery

  • Using a screwdriver, remove the cover of the Carrera RC boat.
  • Put the battery in place.

Inserting the batteries 5
Open the battery compartment with a screwdriver. Press the release button and take the battery compartment out of the controller. Please keep in mind the correct polarity. Different types of batteries or new and used batteries are not to be mixed. Push the battery compartment back into the controller until it latches in place. If necessary, screw the battery compartment in place with a screwdriver.

Now you can drive the boat

  • The Carrera RC boat and the controller are bonded at the factory
Connect the plug-in connection at the model and switch on the model at the ON/OFF switch.

  • Replace the compartment cover using a screwdriver

  • Please note particularly that the propellers and the boat have no function out of the water.
The controller must be switched off.

  • Place the boat in the water.
Switch on the controller. The LED on top of the controller will flash rhythmically. After a few seconds, the LED on the controller lights continuously. Meaning the bind has been made.

Let’s practise! Caution: this boat can reach speeds up to 10 km/h.
When first starting, be very careful when operating the gas pedal. Practice running slowly for at least two to three full charges of the battery before you start practising faster manoeuvres.

  • Before launching from the bank, make sure the boat and the controller are connected (see above)

  • Avoid constant motor operation.

  • Bring the boat back to the bank after about 10 – 15 minutes to change the battery

  • After use, remove or disconnect the battery

  • After the run, turn the switch under the boat’s cover back to OFF.

  • Never run more than 2 batteries down one after the other. After running down two fully charged batteries, a pause in running for at least 20 minutes is essential.
After sailing it, clean the Carrera RC boat carefully
Always recharge the battery immediately after use to prevent its becoming deep discharged

  • Always keep the Carrera RC battery stored outside the boat.

Controller functions

  • When the controller is switched on, the red LED lamps at the front of the controller are lit.
  • Control digital proportional Gas pedal to the rear: steplessly-controlled forwards Gas pedal to the front: braking Turn the steering wheel clockwise: steplessly-controlled right Turn the steering wheel anti-clockwise: Steplesslycontrolledleft
  • Steering-TRIMM – Fine steering adjustment If the vehicle does not run in a straight line, you can make fine steering adjustments here.
  • Thanks to 2.4 GHz technology, up to 16 boats can be operated on one course at the same time. This is possible even without harmonizing frequencies between the racing drivers.

Battery level check

  • When the boat’s battery is almost flat, the boat stops for about five seconds. It can then operate again for 20 seconds. The five-second switch-off and restart for 20 seconds is repeated five times altogether, then the boat switches off completely.

Troubleshooting

Problem

  • Boat does not move

  • Cause: The boat is not in the water.

  • Solution: Switch on the boat and place it in the water. Please note particularly that the propellers and the boat have no function out of the water.

  • Solution: Switch on

  • Cause: There is no rechargeable battery in the boat or the battery is too weak.

  • Solution: Insert charged battery

  • Cause: The overheat protection has caused the boat’s motor to cut out due to excess temperature.

  • Solution: Switch off the receiver. Leave the RC boat to cool down for approx. 30 minutes.

  • Cause: The battery or rechargeable battery in the transmitter or boat is too weak.

  • Solution: Insert new battery or recharged battery.

  • Cause: The boat is very warm.

  • Solution: Allow the RC boat to cool down for about 30 minutes.

  • Cause: The controller is possibly not correctly connected with the receiver in the model.
