General Remarks

  • “GILLO Gold Medal” GF risers are designed and assembled in Italy and are made of aeronautic grade materials and parts.
  • Risers are in aluminum “Anticorodal” 6061 T6 or 6082 T6 alloy and are machined by very advanced milling machines with computerized control directly from solid bars of aluminum strictly checked to grant the uniformity of the alignment of their fibers. Pre charges bolts are made of Stainless Steel inside an Aluminum anodized shell, and limb alignment system inner plates are made by “Ergal” 7075 Aluminum. Grips are made by hardwood. All screws and grub screws are in Stainless Steel or Brass.
  • All Aluminum parts are anodized in depth to grant maximum resistance to corrosion, and abrasion and to grant stability of the color under sunlight.
  • The product you have purchased has been designed and produced in a way to grants you an almost unlimited life of its basic structure.
  • Please follow the easy instructions below for the use and maintenance of your “GILLO Gold Medal” GF riser and you will be in a position to appreciate its extraordinary features for a very long time.
  • Information herein is anyhow intended as the manufacturer’s best at the time of the printing and can change without notice.

Condition of the riser at the delivery.

  • Risers are polished by hand to shiny surfaces and sandblasted before anodizing, therefore small discontinuities on their surfaces may happen and have not to be considered as defects.
  • Risers are assembled and aligned manually one by one, to grant their perfect linearity. If you will use straight limbs with them, there should be no reason to change the factory set alignment.

Pockets of the limbs are set at the factory at a neutral position corresponding to 16°angle of their internal surface and -5 turns from maximum poundage. You can unload the precharge bolts by six full turns to adjust the tiller or to lower poundage (total excursion, +5 to – 6 turns in full safety). Loosen limbs precharge to less than the limit is considered a violation of the warranty and may generate the risk of breakage of the related parts and risk of injury for the user.
Two pieces of M5 x 6 mm Brass locking grub screws are provided inside the accessory bag and should be used for locking the limb bolts after adjustment (one for each bolt).

Recovering pockets ot the original factory setting
If you need to recover pockets to their original factory setting, you have to adjust the pockets to 3 mm distance from the internal top part of the pocket itself from the plain coming from the riser.

Floating Limbs Pockets
“GILLO Gold Medal” GF riser pockets are made in a way to tilt rotating close to the top of the riser by an internal lubricated transversal shaft. The amount of rotation is controlled by the limb bolts that are connected internally to the riser by another lubricated rotating transversal shaft. Operating the pre-charges of the limbs does not change the angle of the limb to the bolt and to the pocket as well, as both remain constant, but allows tilting of the entire pocket of the limb that is kept in position by a special Neoprene rubber spring.

GILLO-GF25-Changin-The-Game-Further-FIG-5

  • This system allows an unprecedented range of poundage adjustment using the same pair of limbs, as they tilt together with the pockets where they are inserted.
  • The average total range of adjustment for poundage is: + 5 to – 6 full turns of the limb bolt, corresponding approximately to >40% total variation in poundage from minimum to maximum.
  • To operate the floating pockets, remove the side Brass grub screws of the bolt transversal shaft, loose bit the pockets rotation screws on both sides with the 4 mm Allen wrench provided, and operate the precharge by using the 5mm Allen wrench provided, until you reach the desired poundage and /or tiller, then lock again the pocket rotation screws and the side grub screws. Precharge bolts can be operated with a bow loaded for very small adjustments only.
  • When doing large adjustments, remove limbs first as you should manually help the Neoprene rubber spring under the pocket to recover to less or more compressed status, as well as to position properly limbs bolt and entire floating pocket to the new angle.

Safe
Warning: Unloading safety limit can be checked by looking from the bottom of the transversal bolt shaft. The minimum is reached when you still can see the hole closed totally by the limb bolt.
To remove the limb bolts, just untighten the side grub screws first. Limbs bolt threads are lubricated at their threaded ends by a Lithium-based grease and this is very important to avoid problems during tightening and untightening the bolts. If you replace one bolt with a new one, don’t forget to add a bit of Lithium or similar lubricant grease on the threads before starting to screw in the new bolt.

  • Warning: Limb bolts of the GF riser are compatible to the limb bolts of the GY riser but NOT to limb bolts of the GT and GX risers.
  • Warning: The manufacturer shall not be considered liable for any damage or injury coming from improper operation of the precharge system.

Operation of the alignment system

The limb alignment system is preset at factory level with maximum possible precision and grants the assembly of the limbs perfectly on the riser axis.
Small linearity defects of limbs or risers themselves may request to operation of the alignment system.

To this purpose, operate as follows:

  1. Slightly loose the M6 inner screw in each pocket, using the 4 mm wrench provided. 1/8th of the turn is suggested
  2. Remove the 2 x 5mm side locking grub screws using the 2.5 mm wrench provided
  3. Assemble the bow with the full stabilizing system or at minimum with a straight long rod.
  4. Insert just over the limbs (archer’s side) a minimum of one pair of Beiter limbs alignment gages or mark with a water ink pen a minimum of one reference on the center of each limb close to the riser.
  5. Loosen with 2.5 mm Allen wrenches provided, the two external locking grub screws of the upper and lower alignment systems.
  6. Looking to the axis made by the string, the center of the limbs, the center of the precharges back locking screw and the center of the long rod, tune by the alignment grub screws, remembering that:
    • A) Tightening clockwise the right upper grub screw (seen from the archer’s side) the tip of the upper limb moves to the left.
    • B) Tightening clockwise the right lower grub screw (seen from the archer’s side) the tip of the lower limb moves to the left too.
  7. Operate right and left grub screws until you will get the position of the string, on the center of the limbs and on a line visually slightly to the right (Right-Hand risers) from the axis of the long rod. This is because the long rod bushing of GF risers is 1 mm off from the center line for better stabilization by the long rod.
  8. When optimal alignment is reached, tighten the grub screw on the opposite side of the one operated last on that limb, and insert and tighten the two additional 5 mm locking grub screws. Some not permanent thread locker on external grub screws will grant them to stay in place during use
  9. Unbrace the bow, remove the limbs, and tighten 6mm screw inside the pockets to lock the alignment plate

In case it will be impossible to reach an acceptable alignment, specifically in the presence of limbs not straight or, even worse, twisted, we suggest that you to renounce their use and replace them, the riser alignment system can only correct small normal imperfections of the limbs straightness.

Warning!

  • Tightening too much the side grub screws may bring difficulty in inserting ad removing the limbs from the dovetails in the pockets.
  • Vibrations during use may unlock the side grub screws, if not locked with the thread locker.
  • Check them time by time

The tunnels and the Plugs
“GILLO Gold Medal” GF risers feature a unique solution for the forward balance of the bow by the presence of two perpendicular “Tunnels”, each one close to each pocket, that allow an almost infinite combination of balancing solutions.

GILLO-GF25-Changin-The-Game-Further-FIG-8

  • You can insert in the Tunnels the standard plugs provided with the accessories kits of the GF risers, or one or more of the special plugs combinations offered as optional accessories.
  • The GF risers come with 2 pcs of G24-TP-01-BK
  • Aluminum Black anodized plugs with 5/16 -24 tapped holes and 2 pcs of G24-PP-01-BK plastic plugs.
  • The typical combination of plugs on the riser is to assemble an Aluminum plug on the front of the riser and a Plastic Plug on the back of the riser, on one or both
  • Tunnels. Aluminum plugs have an O-Ring around them to avoid vibrations and can be locked to the
  • Tunnel by the way of 2 x M4x5 mm grub screws provided. Plastic plugs just need to be pressed inside the tunnel to close it.
  • Optional combinations can see up to 4 Aluminum plugs or up to 4 Plastic plugs assembled on each GF riser.

GILLO-GF25-Changin-The-Game-Further-FIG-9

Warning: Aluminum Plugs locked in the Tunnels by 2 side grub screws are suitable to accept a limited amount of external weight of around 200 g maximum in total, to avoid damage to their holding system. The use of very heavy weights screwed top of the Aluminum plugs will void the warranty of the GF riser.

Pocket system maintenance and replacement
The pocket system is carefully assembled at the factory level to grant minimum play of its parts and to fine align the pockets themselves with each other. Therefore, disassembling in total by way of removing side rotating screws should only be done by an authorized GF riser serving center as it voids

Warranty of the riser.

  • The only maintenance required by the user is to check time by time that said screws are tightened and not lost because of vibrations during use.
  • In case there is a perceivable movement of the pocket from left to right or right to left, it means that the side plastic washers under it need replacement, and this shall be done by a certified GILLO GFriser Service Center only.
  • Neoprene springs compressed to the maximum for a long time may need to be replaced if you want to get back to using the system at a minimum level

Replacement of the grip
Risers are supplied with a Medium grip as standard. Grips of different shapes or/or materials are available as spare parts. Riser can also accept the special “GILLO Ball Grips” available as spare parts. To remove the grip or the side plates, simply remove the two side M4 screws with the 2.5 mm wrench provided.

Clicker plates
GF risers are supplied with a standard short clicker plate assembled on it, while a long version is also provided in the accessories bag. To replace the standard clicker plate with the long one, simply remove the M4 screw locking it by using the 2.5 mm wrench provided. Clicker plates in plastic of different colors, materials, and lengths are available as spare parts.

Optional GVB-K03 V-Bar kit and use of short rods on front of riser
Several dedicated accessories are available for the GFrisers. Among them, the GVB-K03 V-bar kit that can fit any of the 3 lower positions, for perfect balance in Recurve shooting

GILLO-GF25-Changin-The-Game-Further-FIG-10

As far as the use of short rods in front of the riser are concerned, you can assemble them directly to the standard Aluminum plugs provided, or use same plugs in a specific configuration were they are hold to the riser by a pair of (optional) weights that compress 3 neoprene springs inside the Tunnel, so making a self-amortized configuration that have no limits in weight that can be added to theshort rod.

GILLO-GF25-Changin-The-Game-Further-FIG-11 Optional Bare Bow weights
Several dedicated accessories for Bare Bow shooting are available for the GF risers, in addition to all those already available for GT and other risers. Almost all of them can be assembled in combination with the dedicated GF weights.

GILLO-GF25-Changin-The-Game-Further-FIG-12

G24-BW-05-130 Optional weight consists of 1 x Stainless Steel plug 130 cm long and weighting 296 g, specially designed to fit the Tunnels of the GF riser. Moving it inside the lower or upper
Tunnel, you can find the desired balance easily, by the plug alone or in conjunction with GILLO Bare bow one piece or composable weights. Additional weights can be added on both sides of the plug by 5/16-24 treaded screws

GILLO-GF25-Changin-The-Game-Further-FIG-13

G24-BW-06-102/125 Optional weights consist of a kit made by GSX-CW-01 weights of different colors and 2 x Neoprene rubber springs G03-NS-01-25 Black color and 1 x G03-NS-01-25 Yellow, held together by a 5/16-24 threaded Stainless Steel bar (102 mm long for 4 weights, 125 mm long for 7 weights) that can fit the Tunnels of the GF risers. By tightening the weights on both sides of the
Tunnel, you will lock the rubbers inside it and adjust their compression level, up to the desired amortizing and balancing effects.

GILLO-GF25-Changin-The-Game-Further-FIG-14

G24-BW-07-125 Optional weights consist of a kit made by 7 x GSX-CW-02 weights of differentcolor and 2 x Neoprene rubber springs G03-NS-01-25 Black color and 1 x G03-NS-01-25 Yellow, hold together by a 5/16-24 threaded Stainless Steel bar 125 mm long for 7 weights. The function is the same as G24-BW-06-125 with less weight.

Warning: Assembling an optional Bare bow cover, Bare Bow weight, or V-Bar kit over or inside the riser may generate scratches on the riser surface!
If the optional cover does not slide on easily over the riser, do not force it but ask your dealer for replacement.

Optional disks weight

GILLO risers can mount several different types of optional disk weights in the round bottom compartments. Optional round weights can be used for different purposes from purely adding weight to the bottom part of the riser, up to alter torsional reaction of the riser by adding Steel or Tungsten disk weights on one side and aluminum disk weights on the other side (GF, GT, GQ, and G2 risers)

Suggested Brace Heights and String Lengths
Brace height depends on both riser and limb geometries, as well as the level of precharge of the pockets. Therefore, the following brace height ranges are to be considered when using GILLO
Gold Medal GF Riser with GILLO Gold Medal limbs, only, and refer to pocket angles at factory setting (16°), only

GILLO-GF25-Changin-The-Game-Further-FIG-17

  • As a rule of thumb, ever adjust the brace until you can still see at least 1.5 to 2 cm of the grove under the string in the area close to the tips.
  • Deflex distance (pockets extremities line to grip pivot point) is 41 mm for GF 25 ILF riser (while G1,
  • G2 and GQ risers have a 40 mm distance and GT risers have a 35 mm distance). The full length of the GF 25 riser is 25.8”, therefore these two parameters should be considered when tuning the bow.
  • Brace height may vary out of the above indicative ranges if using super curved limbs or Long bow-type limbs.

Bow string length may need to be changed when operating limbs at the extremes allowed by the Floating Pockets system, and this will also affect the Brace height you will get. Experimenting is the only way to sort out the best compromise in bracing between floating pockets position, your limbs, and the length of the string you use

GF 25 Riser / How to tune
The GF 25 riser is very different from any other riser in the market as well as from other risers in the GILLO Gold Medal Range. Summary of the main original features are:

  • 25.8” full length
  • 40% range of adjustment on poundage because of the new floating pockets cinematic

  • Tunnels system for fine balance on arrow direction
  • 75 mm asymmetric on the bottom (longer bottom)
  • 1 mm front center stabilizer bushing offset to compensate window and sight when using long rod stabilizers
  • 41 mm Deflex at factory setting

  • Sight screws holes lower than standard to help lower the center of gravity when using Asight

As of the specifications, you should not expect to tune your bow with the GF riser same as you have done in the past with other risers, starting form the need of a longer string than usual as well as of a slightly higher nocking point.
Trial and error is the only way to find a good tuning of your new bow, and to enjoy the almost infinite tuning possibilities offered by the GF riser.
