Lenses Optical Assistive Device

NOTE:
EnChroma lenses are an optical assistive device only and are not a cure for color blindness.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:

EnChroma lenses are designed for use with deuteranomalous or protanomalous color vision deficiency (which are types of partial or incomplete red-green color blindness comprising about 80% of known cases of CVD). The lens is not expected to assist with deuteranopia and protanopia (which are types of total or complete red-green color blindness comprising the remaining 20% of cases of CVD). The effectiveness of the lens may vary depending on the type and extent of color vision deficiency. Test your color vision online at enchroma.com/test or consult with an eye care professional.
When putting on the glasses, allow at least 10 minutes for the eyes to adjust to the darkness of the lens, and avoid removing the glasses during the adjustment period. Removing the glasses, even momentarily, will tend to reduce the effectiveness of the color enhancement. To ensure optimal effectiveness, wear the lens for at least 10 hours in a variety of situations over the course of 1-2 weeks. Depending on the rate of neural plasticity in the user, a significant amount of time may be required for the visual cortex to respond to the new information. When first trying on the lens, the unusual appearance of colors may be visually distracting. Always maintain awareness of potential hazards in your surroundings and take appropriate cautions when engaging in activities such as driving or the operation of machinery.

ENCHROMA SUNGLASS LENS:

The EnChroma Sunglass Lenses have a dark or medium gray appearance and look like an ordinary sunglass lens. Wear outdoors in daylight in any situation where one would normally wear sunglasses. Best results are obtained in bright daylight and in colorful settings, such as a botanical garden or an outdoor event. The sunglass lens is not intended for indoor use, or for use with digital displays such as computer screens, tablets, and mobile phones. Eye care professionals recommend wearing sunglasses as often as possible to protect the eyes from the damaging effects of UV and high-energy blue light.
TESTING AND OCCUPATIONAL RESTRICTIONS:
EnChroma lenses are not designed to defeat color blindness screening tests. The glasses may not significantly improve scores on the EnChroma Color Blindness Test or any other color blindness test. Results vary depending on the type of test and the extent of color vision deficiency of the individual. The lens is not certified for use in occupations where color blind individuals may be restricted for reasons of public safety, such as emergency first responders, and public transport operators.

GLARE, EYE STRAIN & HEADACHES:
For issues with distracting glare caused by the intrusion of stray light along the top or sides of the frame, try wearing a hat or select a frame style with better coverage (e.g., a “wrap-around” frame). To optimize the fit and coverage of the frame, consult with an optician to have the frame adjusted. If you experience eye strain or headaches from wearing the glasses, consult with an eye-care professional to ensure your vision prescription needs are up to date.

CARE AND HANDLING:

Use the provided cleaning cloth to remove oil and residue that may accumulate on the frame and lens. A small amount of mild dish soap or a specially formulated eyeglass cleaner may also be used. After washing, rinse the glasses and then dry them with a soft cleaning cloth. Beware of the potential to scratch the lens when particles such as dirt, sand, or salt are present. In this case, rinse off the particles using clean water and then clean normally. Rubbing the particles with the cleaning cloth could scratch the frame and/or lens. Do not rub the product with paper towels. The abrasive content of a paper towel can scratch the lens. Do not expose the lens or frame to household cleaners, Windex, isopropyl alcohol, detergents, or harsh chemicals, as these could attack and damage the materials. Always store the glasses in a protective case when not in use. Store EnChroma glasses inside a protective case when not in use. Store in a cool, dry area away from extreme temperatures as it can damage the lenses. DO NOT store the glasses inside hot vehicles.
