Safety Instructions
All Operators Must Read These Instructions Before Use
When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed, to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury, including the following:
- Read all instructions.
- This device is for household use only.
- Do not insert foreign objects into this device.
- Use only extension cords which have plugs and receptacles which accept the product’s plug.
- To prevent electric shock, use only with an extension cord suitable for outdoor use, such as SW-A, SOW-A, STW-A, STOW-A, SJW-A, SJOW-A, SJTW-A, or SJTOW-A. Before use, check that the electrical rating of the extension cord is at least as great as the electrical rating of the product.
- Replace or repair damaged cords.
- Don’t abuse cord – Never carry the device by the cord or yank it to disconnect it from the receptacle. Keep the cord away from heat, oil and sharp edges.
- Disconnect the device from the power supply when not in use, before servicing, when changing the black light, cleaning, or other similar actions.
- Use only a UL-, CSA- or ETL-rated extension cord for outdoor, all-weather use.
- When using an extension cord, keep the connection dry and off the ground.
- Do not touch the device or its plug with wet hands or while standing in water. Wearing rubber boots offers some protection.
- Store the device indoors and out of the reach of children when not in use.
- Do not clean this device with cleaning agents or solvents.
- Do not spray water, wash or immerse this device (other than the collection tray) in water. Do not use with wet hands or in damp environments.
- Do not use in inflammable or explosive environments, and the like.
- Do not touch the electric grid or place any metallic objects inside during operation.
- Hang or place the device out of the reach of children.
- Never remove any fixed part of the device to make internal adjustments to avoid electric shock.
- Clean the electric grid at frequent intervals. Unplug the device before cleaning the high voltage electric grid with the provided cleaning brush. Empty the collection tray every week.
- If the device is malfunctioning, unplug it and contact Snow Joe® + Sun Joe® customer service center at 1-866-SNOWJOE (1-866-766-9563).
- Do not place the device in an area where it can fall into water or near flammable materials.
- Avoid looking directly into the UV light. Skin or eye damage may result from gazing directly at the black light.
- Dead insects accumulating in base of the device may catch on fire. Clean dead insects from device frequently as noted in this manual.
- The UV black light is replaceable by the user. See the Replacing the UV Black Light section of this manual for reference.

Unpacking
Carton Contents

- Carefully remove the electric bug zapper and check to see that all of the above items are supplied.
- Inspect the product carefully to make sure no breakage or damage occurred during shipping. If you find damaged or missing parts, DO NOT return the device to the store. Please call the Snow Joe® + Sun Joe® customer service center at 1-866-SNOWJOE (1-866-766-9563).
NOTE: Do not discard the shipping carton and packaging material until you are ready to use the electric bug zapper. The packaging is made of recyclable materials. Properly dispose of these materials in accordance with local regulations or save the packaging for long-term product storage.
IMPORTANT! The equipment and packaging material are not toys. Do not let children play with plastic bags, foils, or small parts. These items can be swallowed and pose a suffocation risk!
Set Up + Usage
Assembly (Fig. 1)
- Take the two halves of the cover and snap them together.
- Place the assembled cover over the top of the bug zapper.
Indoor
- For best results, use the bug zapper with the lights off or dimmed.
- Hang the device at least 6 ft (1.8 m) from the ground and 1 ft (0.3 m) from any objects or the wall.
Outdoor (Fig. 2)
- Hang the bug zapper 6– 8 ft. (1.8– 2.4 m) off the ground.
- Place the bug zapper 25 ft. (7.6 m) away from the area intended for human activity.
- position the bug zapper between the source of insects (woods, lowlands, swamps etc) and the area to be protected.
- Plug into a compatible extension cord designed for outdoor use, a violet glow will be emitted by the device within a few seconds.
Operation
- Select the proper location and plug the cord into an appropriate extension cord if needed.
- Once plugged into an outlet, the device is active. The black light should illuminate and the bug zapper is ready for use.
- Unplug device when not in use.
CAUTION! The device is only designed to withstand moderate rain. If severe weather is expected, take the device down and store indoors until the severe weather has passed.
Maintenance
WARNING! Always unplug the bug zapper before cleaning to avoid electric shock.
Cleaning the Collection Tray
The collection tray should be emptied frequently. Use caution when opening the tray as some dead insects may fall out upon removal.

Unplug the bug zapper and rotate the collection tray counterclockwise to remove it from the housing ( Fig. 3 ).

Empty tray with the cleaning brush, then rinse and dry it. Avoid touching insect remains by hand.

Return the collection tray back into the bottom of the housing. Rotate clockwise to lock it in place.
WARNING! The exterior housing of bug zapper does not require cleaning. Do not attempt to clean the housing with water, solvents or any other liquids.
Electric Grid Cleaning
If excess amounts of dead insects begin to accumulate on the grid, the function of the device may be compromised. To ensure the effectiveness of this device, clean the grid periodically.
WARNING! When cleaning the electric grid, only use the included cleaning brush to avoid any risk of shock or injury. Ignoring this warning may result in death or serious injury

Unplug the device and un-hang the bug zapper. Allow it to sit for 30 seconds for the electrical charge to dissipate.

Gently brush loose the dead insects on the electric grid through the open slits in the housing with the cleaning brush.
NOTE: Never use water to clean the grid as this can damage the electronics. -
After brushing, the dead insects should collect in the collection tray below. Empty it as shown in (Fig. 3).

Hang the bug zapper back up and plug it in to get back to zapping.
Replacing the UV Black Light (Fig. 4)
The brightness of the florescent UV black light diminishes over time. Replace it every season to maintain optimal bug zapping efficacy.

Unplug the device and un-hang the bug zapper. Allow it to sit for 30 seconds for the electrical charge to dissipate.

Remove the collection tray (Fig. 3).

Unscrew both machine screws securing the grate.

Remove the grate and the rubber tube guard.
-
Wearing gloves, gently pull the black light out of the housing.

Wearing gloves, insert the replacement black light making sure that the four pins are properly seated into the socket.
NOTE: Replace the black light only with an official Sun Joe® replacement UV black light (model BZ18W-BLB). -
Place the grate and the rubber tube guard on the end of the new black light. Secure them into position with the two machine screws.

Return the collection tray back into the bottom of the housing. Rotate clockwise to lock it in place.

Plug it in to test it out.
NOTE: If the bug zapper fails to light up after replacing the UV black light, unplug device and follow the instructions above to ensure that it is correctly installed.
Storage + Maintenance
- Store the bug zapper indoors and out of the reach of children.
- Do not clean the bug zapper with harsh chemicals, solvents (such as acetone), or strong cleaning agents.

When contacting the company or arranging service from an authorized dealer,
you will need to provide the model and serial numbers, which can be found on
the registration card. Copy these numbers into the space provided below.
Troubleshooting
WARNING! Always unplug the bug zapper before servicing to avoid electric shock.
WARNING! Do not try to adjust or repair the bug zapper yourself. Component parts shall be replaced with like components. Servicing shall be done by factory authorized service personnel to minimize the risk of possible ignition due to incorrect parts or improper service

- Unplug the device and replace the black light. Refer to the Replacing the UV Black Light section of this manual for reference.
Intermittent or continuous sparking from the grid|
- The electric grid is bent out of shape, causing a short
- Grid is clogged with foreign objects

- Request a replacement from the manufacturer
- Unplug and examine the grid. Clean debris with the included brush
The black light no longer attracts insects|
- Low UV output due to aging of the black light
- Bug zapper is positioned incorrectly or operated at sub optimal times

- Unplug the device and replace the black light. Refer to the Replacing the UV Black Light section of this manual for reference.
- Move the device to a different location, operate it at night.

OUR WARRANTY:
Snow Joe warrants new, genuine, powered and non-powered Products to be free from defects in material or workmanship when used for ordinary household use for a period of two years from the date of purchase by the original, end-user purchaser when purchased from Snow Joe or from one of Snow Joe’s authorized sellers with proof of purchase. Because Snow Joe is unable to control the quality of its Products sold by unauthorized sellers, unless otherwise prohibited by law, this Warranty does not cover Products purchased from unauthorized sellers. If your Product does not work or there’s an issue with a specific part that is covered by the terms of this Warranty, Snow Joe will elect to either (1) send you a free replacement part, (2) replace the Product with a new or comparable product at no charge, or (3) repair the Product. How cool is that!
This Warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from State to State.

WHO CAN SEEK LIMITED WARRANTY COVERAGE:
This Warranty is extended by Snow Joe to the original purchaser and original owner of the Product.
WHAT IS NOT COVERED?
This Warranty does not apply if the Product has been used commercially or for non-household or rental applications. This Warranty also does not apply if the Product was purchased from an unauthorized seller. This Warranty also does not cover cosmetic changes that do not affect performance. Wearing parts like belts, augers, chains and tines are not covered under this Warranty, and can be purchased at snowjoe.com or by calling 1-866-SNOWJOE (1-866-766-9563).
