HOW TO GO BUGLESS
Fill the Insect Buster with your favorite insect killing powder no more than three quarters of the way full. Some powders are very fine and can clump easily, so ensure the steel ball is inside the bulb duster to effectively break up the powder. Then, before application, give the duster a good shake like a can of spray paint. Depending on the location of your insect invasion, choose either the short or long brass dispenser. You can also attach the vinyl tubing for those hard to reach nooks and crannies.
FOR BROAD APPLICATION
POOF A CLOUD OF DUST
- Invert the bulb and shake to get dust into the rod.
- Hold the duster horizontally (sideways) and squeeze with gusto.
- Invert, shake, and squeeze again with gusto.
FOR BARRIER OR SPOT TREATMENT
CREATE A LINE OF CONTINUAL DUST
- Invert the bulb and shake to get dust into the rod.
- Hold the duster vertically (upside down) and steadily squeeze.
- Invert, shake, and squeeze again with gusto.
FOR HARD TO REACH SPACES
USE THE VINYL TUBE
- Secure the flexible vinyl tubing onto the brass tip.
- Invert the bulb and shake to get dust to enter the brass tip.
- Aim the vinyl tube at your problem area and squeeze.
TIPS
POWDER APPLICATION TIPS
Once the powder of your choice is applied, whether in open or hidden places, leave it out as long as possible. After application, you may be tempted to sit and wait for the first bug victim to cross the white line, but understand that the dehydration process takes time.
Powders do not contain insect attractants, but act as a barrier to keep bugs out and will kill any insect that walks across it. Beware of those ants marching two by two! Leave the powder for a minimum of 24 to 48 hours before cleaning. Sweeping is better than vacuuming as this ensures more powder is left in cracks and crevices. If you choose to use a vacuum, please ensure that it has a HEPA filter. If you have applied it on your carpet (to help manage fleas, for instance) vacuum after 48 hours to clean up the dust. When using powder, refer to the product’s safety precautions to protect your lungs from irritation.
DE POWDER TIPS
If you choose to use DE powder, be aware that there are two types of DE for use in the home: food grade and insect grade. If you are using it to eradicate insects in your kitchen, or around children and pets, the safest option is to use food grade. Insect grade DE will be labeled as such due to its EPA classification as an insecticide, even though pure insect grade DE contains no toxic or poisonous additives.
TIPS FOR ELIMINATING INSECTS
FLEAS
- To reduce the flea circus on your cats and dogs, dust their beds with powder 1 to 2 times per month. You can apply powder directly onto your pets, but do so in a well-ventilated area.
- Rub the powder deep into their fur, avoiding contact with their eyes and nose. If they have any negative skin reactions, discontinue use.
BED BUGS
Getting rid of bed bugs can be difficult, but bed bug bites are no joke. Using powder is the difference between success and failure. For maximum success, consider pairing this with Dr. Killigan’s Rest In Peace, a non-toxic bed bug spray. After you steam clean, wash fabrics, and vacuum, it’s time to apply powder with the Insect Buster. Dust powder on the floor, under the mattress, and around the bed posts.
Lift the top mattress and apply a generous dusting on the box spring. Apply on top of the mattress and work the powder into the seams. Also distribute in closets and dressers. Apply along floor baseboards and in any cracks and crevices between your baseboard and floor. Wait at least 48 hours (a week is best) before vacuuming. The more of a powder barrier you can maintain, the fewer insects you will have to deal with.
ROACHES
To rid your kitchen of cockroaches (arguably the most objectionable insect known to man), squeeze a thin line of powder along the back wall inside your cupboards and pantry. If your top cupboards are not flush with the ceiling, apply the powder along the crevice against the wall. Pull your refrigerator out from the wall and apply behind and under the refrigerator. (Most refrigerators have wheels and can easily be rolled away from the wall). Squeeze some powder along the wall under the sink.
ANTS
Depending on what part of the world you live in, ants vary in their level of destruction.
Some bite. Some tunnel through wood. Some try to carry off your refrigerator. Regardless, you can use powder liberally to guard against ants. If applicable, we recommend using it both indoors and outdoors. Outside, apply powder on and in ant hills. Apply along the house’s foundation, and if possible, along the foundation under the house. Inside, apply powder wherever you see an “ant parade” entry point. Behind or along baseboards is also effective.
