Introduction

Congratulations on your purchase of the JIMS 800 PREAMP pedal. In this unit you will find a true-to-life digital simulation of a Marshall JMP 2203 (JCM 800) tube amplifier, created using TC Electronics unique AMPWORX modeling technology. Every detail of the original tube amp has been lovingly re-created in painstaking detail by the TC tone technicians, right down to every last component in the circuit. Bringing you the best digital amp modeling experience available.
Marshall JMP 2203 and JCM 800 are trademarks or registered trademarks of Marshall Amplification PLC.

Celestion CAB SIM
To provide you with a DI-ready pedalboard setup solution for connection to PA systems, recording interfaces and headphones, we’ve partnered up with the best in the business and supplied you with an official Celestion Digital impulse response of a 4 x 12 G12-65 loaded cabinet, so it’s ready to roll right out of the box via dedicated DI and Headphone outputs.

Custom MODS
What would a beautiful vintage tube amp be without a couple of hand-crafted boutique mods?
In that spirit, we’ve added some highly sought after custom shop modifications based on mods by legendary amp builders.

  • TREBLE BLEED MOD – The treble bleed across the gain control has been reduced but not removed completely. This results in sweeter high-mids and a less shrill top end bite than a stock JCM 800*,but without loosing the amplifiers trademark characteristics.
  • CUSTOM TONESTACK – The stock JCM 800* amplifier inherited its tonestack from classic plexi and PA-style tube amplifiers. For the BASS, MID and TREBLE knobs, the center frequency of these controls have been slightly tweaked resulting in a more versatile range of adjustment and more ‘dialed in’ sounding amp tone.
  • GAIN MOD – We added a touch more level to the 2nd gain stage, resulting in slightly more gain and compression. This reduces the stiffness of the amp and gives a more effortless feeling under the fingers.

Controls

NOTE: All controls on the back panel of the pedal are global and not saved per channel. Intended to “set and forget”.

NOTE: All controls values on the top panel of the pedal and the BOOST footswitch status, are independent per channel and save their settings automatically when you switch between channels.

  1.  IN – Connect your instrument to this jack by using an instrument cable with a ¼” TS connector.

  2. OUT – Outputs the amplifier model without speaker cab sim. Connect to dedicated power amplifier, amp FX RETURN, amplifier input or external IR (Impulse Response) loader.

  3. DI (CAB SIM) – Outputs the amplifier model, combined with official Celestion Impulse Response speaker cabinet for direct input to audio interface, FRFR (full range) cabinet or PA system.

  4. PRESENCE – This control globally sets the presence for both channels.
The PRESENCE ‘set it and forget’ knob allows you to adjust the overall brightness of your sound to suit your setup and outboard gear.

  5. BOOST (PRE/POST) – This switch controls whether the boost is applied before the amp (PRE) for more distortion or after the amp (POST) for a volume boost.

  6. DC IN – Connect to a standard 9 VDC / 300 mA power supply with center pin negative connector.

  7. USB – Connect to a computer using the included mini-USB cable for firmware updates.

  8. PHONES – Connect headphones with a 1/8″ (3.5 mm) stereo jack. Includes AMP MODEL with CAB SIM.

  9.  GAIN – Sets the input gain.

  10. BOOST – Sets the amount of gain provided by the boost.

  11. LEVEL – Sets the output level with independent control per channel.
Caution: AMPWORX pedals have a lot of output level on tap.

  12. BASS – Adjusts the level of low-end frequencies within the tone stack.

  13. MID – Adjusts the level of midrange frequencies within the tone stack.

  14. TREBLE – Adjusts the level of high range frequencies within the tone stack.

  15. BOOST FOOTSWITCH – Press this footswitch to engage/disengage the gain boost. The LED will light when the boost is active.

  16. CHANNEL FOOTSWITCH – Press to toggle between the Green (clean) and Red (lead) channels in Dual Channel mode.
Press to toggle pedal on/off in Bypass Mode

  17. BOOST + CHANNEL – Press both footswitches simultaneously to change between footswitch modes.
See “Footswitch Modes” for more details.

Footswitch Modes

Your AMPWORX pedal has two different footswitch modes, Dual Channel Mode and Bypass Mode, which will change the function of the CHANNEL footswitch.
Press both footswitches simultaneously to change between footswitch modes.
Both LED’s will flash RED for DUAL CHANNEL MODE or GREEN for BYPASS MODE.

Dual Channel Mode
In Dual Channel Mode the CHANNEL footswitch will toggle between the Green and Red channels of the amp model. In this mode your AMPWORX pedal is always on.
The Green channel yields a clean tone that is based on the Marshall JCM 800 “Low” input tone.
The Red channel gives you a high-gain lead sound based on the JCM 800
“High” input.
Dual Channel Mode is the default mode when you unbox your pedal.

Bypass Mode
In Bypass Mode the CHANNEL footswitch will toggle the pedal on/off.
The last channel you had selected when in Dual Channel Mode is the one that will be active when the pedal is active in Bypass Mode.

Standard, unbalanced TS (mono) cables will work with these connections, but for longer cable runs or when interfacing with balanced equipment like soundcards, mixers, and so on, balanced TRS cables will give much better noise suppression.
