IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION – READ & FOLLOW

- Always inspect the hook and latch before using.
- Never use a latch that is distorted or bent.
- Always make sure the spring will force the latch against the tip of the hook.
- Always make sure the hook supports the load. The latch must never support the load (See Figures 1 & 2).
- When placing two (2) sling legs in the hook, make sure the angle between the legs is less than 90° and if the hook or load is tilted, nothing bears against the bottom of this latch (See Figures 3 & 4).
- Latches are intended to retain loose slings or devices under slack conditions.
- Latches are not intended to be an anti-fouling device.
WARNING
- Loads may disengage from the hook if proper procedures are not followed.
- A falling load may cause serious injury or death.
- See OSHA Rule 1926.1431(g)(1)(i)(A) and 1926.1501(g)(4)(iv)(B) for Personnel Hoisting by Cranes or Derricks. A Crosby or McKissick Hook with a positive Locked PL or S-4320 Latch may be used to Lift Personnel.
- The hook must always support the load. The load must never be supported by the latch.
- DO NOT use this latch in applications requiring non-sparking.
- Read and understand these instructions before using the hook and latch.
IMPORTANT – Instructions for Assembling Model PL Latch on Crosby or McKissick Hooks
- Place the hook at approximately a 45-degree angle with the cam up.
- Position coils of spring over cam with legs of spring pointing toward the point of hook and loop of spring positioned down and lying against the hook.
- Position the latch to the side of the hook points. Slide the latch onto the spring legs between the lockplate and latch body until the latch is partially over the hook cam. Then depress the latch and spring until the latch clears the point of the hook.
- Line up holes in latch with the hook cam.
- Insert bolt through the latch, spring, and cam.
- Tighten the self-locking nut on one end of the bolt.
- With the latch in the closed position and rigging resting in a bowl of the hook, insert the bolt through latch and secure it with a nut and cotter pin. When bolt, nut, and cotter pin are not being used, store them in a designated place upon the personnel platform.
