Thank you for purchasing a Accuweight Kitchen Scale. Your Accuweight scale is an example of superior design and craftsmanship. Please read this instruction manual carefully before use. Keep these instructions handy for future reference.
Battery Installation
- This scale operates on 2 “AAA” batteries (included). Remove any plastic wrap from the batteries before proceeding. Always replace all batteries at the same time; do not combine old and new batteries. Do not mix alkaline standard (carbon-zinc) or rechargeable (nickel-cadmium) batteries.
- Open the battery compartment on the bottom of the scale.
- Place the batteries into the battery compartment as indicated by the polarity symbols marked in the compartment.
- Replace the battery compartment cover.
- Replace the batteries if “Lo” appears on the display, or the readings grow dim or irregular.
General Weighing Operation
- Place the scale on a hard, level surface.
- Press the “®-zero” button to turn the scale on. The display first shows “88888”, then zero when it is ready for use. If the display does not show zero, press the “d-zero” button to reset (tare) the scale to zero.
- Your scale is set at the factory to weigh in pounds/ounces. To switch to grams, press the “UNIT” button.
- Place the item to be weighed on the center of the platform. The weight will display. As you add weight, the weight displayed increases.
- The scale will turn off automatically after 3 minutes if there is no change in weight, or after one minute when the weight is removed. Press “0 – zero” to turn the scale off manually.
Tare Operation
You may wish to weigh ingredients in a bowl or other container (not included). In this case, you will need to tare, or offset, the weight of the bowl so that only the weight of the ingredients is displayed.
- Choose a container that will safely balance on the platform without tipping or falling. Do not use a heavy container, as this might reduce the maximum capacity of the scale.
- While the scale is off, place the empty container on the scale platform. Turn the scale on. The display will show “88888” then zero. The weight of the container has been zeroed out.
- Add the ingredient to be weighed. The weight of the ingredient alone will display.
- The weight of additional ingredients may be tared out as well. For example, if recipe calls for 1% Ib rice and %b beans, place the rice into the bowl. Once the correct amount of rice is weighed, press the “®-zero” button until the display resets to zero. Add the % Ibs of beans. Both ingredients have been accurately weighed in the same bowl.
- When weights have been tared out, the display will show a negative number when the items are removed from the scale. To reset the scale back to zero for anew measurement, press the * ®-zero” button until the display resets to zero.
Back light Feature
Your Accuweight scale is equipped with a convenient back light feature. The back light will automatically light up for 5 seconds when a button is pressed or when there is a change in weight, The back light will then turn off to conserve battery power.
Precautions
- Clean exposed parts with a soft, slightly damp cloth. To remove stains, use amild soap. Never use detergents, excess water, treated cloths, harsh cleaning agents, or sprays. Avoid contact with acids, such as citrus juices.
- Do not tamper with the scale’s internal components. Doing so willinvalidate the warranty on this unit and may cause damage. The scale contains no user-serviceable parts.
- Although your scale is designed to be maintenance-free, it contains sensitive electronic parts. Avoid rough treatment. Treat it with care to ensure the best performance.
- This scale is intended for home/consumer use only. Itis not intended for commercial or medical use.
- This scale is designed to read weights up to 11 Ibs/5 kgs. To prevent damage, do not place more than 11 Ibs/5 kgs on it
- Do not store scale where you store cleaning chemicals. The vapors from some household products may affect the electronic components of your scale. Do not store scale on its side.
- This scale is an extremely sensitive weighing device. In order to prevent run down of the batteries, do not store anything on the scale.
- Do not dispose of batteries in fire. Batteries may explode or leak. Do not mix old and new batteries. Do not mix Alkaline, carbon-zinc (standard) or Nickel-Cadmium (rechargeable) batteries. Remove the batteries if the scale will not be used for a long period of time ©
- Overload Warning: Should “o-Ld” appear on the display during a weighing, this indicates that the maximum weighing capacity of the scale has been exceeded. Remove the weight immediately; otherwise, permanent damage could occur.
One Year Limited Warranty
This product is warranted to be free from defects in material or workmanship (excluding batteries) for one year for the original purchaser from date of retail purchase. It does not cover damages or wear resulting from accident, misuse, abuse, commercial use, or unauthorized adjustment and/or repair. If service is required, do not return to retailer. Should this product require service (or replacement at our option), please pack the item carefully and return it prepaid, along with store receipt showing the date of purchase and a note explaining reason for return to.
