IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING THIS APPLIANCE
When using an electrical appliance, basic precautions should always be followed, including the following:

WARNING
TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE, ELECTRIC SHOCK OR INJURY:

  1. Do not charge the unit where there is any possibility that the appliance or plug may get wet.
  2. Do not use it outdoors or on wet surfaces.
  3. Use only the charger supplied with the product to recharge.
  4. Do not allow it to be used as a toy. Close attention is necessary when used by or near children.
  5. This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
  6. Use only as described in this manual. Use only Dyson-recommended attachments.
  7. Do not use a damaged cord or plug. If the appliance is not working as it should, has been dropped, damaged, left outdoors, or dropped into water, contact the Dyson Helpline.
  8. Do not use with an extension cord.
  9. Do not unplug by pulling on the cord. To unplug, grasp the plug, not the cord.
  10. Do not handle chargers, including the charger plug and charger terminals, with wet hands.
  11. Do not put any objects into openings. Do not use any opening blocked; keep free of dust, lint, hair, and anything that may reduce airflow.
  12. Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers, and all parts of the body away from openings and moving parts.
  13. Use extra care when cleaning on stairs.
  14. Do not use to pick up flammable or combustible liquids, such as gasoline, or use in areas where they may be present.
  15. Do not pick up anything that is burning or smoking, such as cigarettes, matches, or hot ashes.
  16. Do not incinerate the appliance even if it is severely damaged. The batteries may explode in a fire.
  17. Do not use without clear binTM and filters in place.

SAFETY WARNINGS FOR 12VOLT CHARGER

  1. This charger is intended for dry location use only. Do not use or place the charger or machine where it may get wet.
  2. Do not handle the charger, including the charger plug and charger terminals with wet hands.
  3. Do not leave the charger or appliance in direct sunlight.
  4. The DC16 in-car charger is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the charger.
  5. This charger is intended for operation from 12Vdc negative earth electrical systems only.
  6. Use only to charge the DC16 with genuine Dyson battery packs.
  7. To remove the charger from the socket grasp the plug, not the cord. Do not unplug by pulling on the cord.
  8. Do not use the charger if the cord or plug is damaged or if the appliance is not working as it should be, has been dropped, damaged, left outdoors, or dropped into water. Contact the Dyson Helpline at 0800 298 0298.

BATTER SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

Use only Dyson batteries and charging units for this appliance.
The battery is a sealed unit and under normal circumstances poses no safety concerns. In the unlikely event that liquid leaks from the battery do not touch the liquid and observe the following precautions:

  • Skin contact – can cause skin irritation. Wash with soap and water.
  • Inhalation – can cause respiratory irritation. Provide fresh air and seek medical advice.
  • Eye contact – can cause eye irritation. Immediately flush your eyes thoroughly with water for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention.
  • Disposal – wear gloves to handle the battery and dispose of immediately following local ordinances or regulations.

CAUTION – The battery used in this device may present a risk of fire or chemical burn if mistreated. Do not disassemble, short contacts, heat above 212°F (100°C ), or incinerate. Replace the battery with a Dyson battery only, use of any other battery may present a risk of fire or explosion. Dispose of the used battery promptly. Keep away from children. Do not disassemble and do not dispose of in fire.

Remove the battery pack for disposal.
Do not dispose of battery packs in normal household waste. Dispose of battery packs safely under local regulations.

Troubleshooting

  1. When using the appliance, the light on the handle indicates the level of charge. A green light indicates the battery is fully or partly charged. A red light indicates the battery is fully discharged and needs charging. The battery will become hot during use – this is normal.
  2. The appliance will cut out immediately when the battery has run out – recharge for continued use.
  3. To ensure your appliance is always ready to use, store it on the charger.
  4. When connected to the charge, a red light indicates the battery is charging.
  5. A green light indicates the battery is fully or partly charged. Full charging takes around 3 hours.
  6. For optimum battery life always charge above 59°F, 15°C.
  7. Your Dyson battery comes partly charged. For full run time of 6 minutes, you should charge for 3 hours before use.

Using your Dyson Handheld appliance

Caution:

  1. When wall mounting the recharging unit, always use the appropriate fixings for your wall type.
  2. Check that there is no pipework or wiring directly behind the mounting/drilling area.
  3. Dirt and debris may be released from the appliance if it is turned upside down. Ensure the appliance remains upright in use and stored in the recharging unit.
  4. Do not operate the appliance while checking for blockages.

Please note:

  • Do not carry out any maintenance or repair work other than that shown in this manual or advised by the Dyson Helpline.
  • This appliance is designed for domestic use only. Do not use it whilst the vehicle is in motion or while driving.
  • Do not press down on the nozzle with excessive force when using the appliance as this may cause damage.
  • If the motor overheats, the appliance will cut out automatically. Leave to cool for at least an hour and check for blockages before restarting.
  • Fine dirt such as flour or plaster dust should only be vacuumed in very small amounts.
