IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

When using an electrical appliance, basic precautions should always be followed, including the following: READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING THIS VACUUM CLEANER.

WARNING

  • To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury:
  • Do not use it outdoors or on wet surfaces.
  • Do not leave the vacuum cleaner when plugged in. Turn off the switch and unplug the electrical cord when not in use and before servicing.
  • Do not allow it to be used as a toy. Close attention is necessary when used by or near children.
  • Use only as described in this manual. Use only the manufacturer’s recommended attachments.
  • Do not use a damaged cord or plug. If the vacuum cleaner is not working as it should, has been dropped, damaged, left outdoors, or dropped into water, return it to a service center before using.
  • Do not pull or carry by cord, use the cord as a handle, close a door on the cord, or pull the cord around sharp edges or corners. Do not run the vacuum cleaner over the cord. Keep the cord away from heated surfaces.
  • Hold the plug when rewinding onto the cord reel. Do not allow the plug to whip when rewinding.
  • Do not use extension cords or outlets with inadequate current carrying capacity.
  • Turn off all controls before unplugging.
  • Always turn off this appliance before connecting or disconnecting either the hose or motorized nozzle.
  • Do not unplug by pulling on the cord. To unplug, grasp the plug, not the cord.
  • The hose contains electrical wires. Do not use if damaged, cut, or punctured. Avoid picking up sharp objects.
  • Do not handle the plug or vacuum cleaner with wet hands.
  • Do not put any objects into openings. Do not use any opening blocked; keep free of dust, lint, hair, and anything that may reduce airflow.
  • This vacuum cleaner creates suction and may contain a revolving brush roll. Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers, and all parts of the body away from openings and moving parts.
  • Do not pick up anything that is burning or smoking, such as cigarettes, matches, or hot ashes.
  • Do not use without a dust bag in place.
  • Belt pulleys can become hot during normal use. To prevent burns, avoid touching the belt pulley when servicing the drive belt.
  • Use extra care when cleaning on stairs.
  • Do not use to pick up flammable or combustible liquids such as gasoline, or use in areas where they may be present.
  • Store your cleaner in a cool, dry area.
  • Keep your work area well-lighted.
  • Unplug electrical appliances before vacuuming them.
  • To reduce the risk of electric shock, this appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other).
  • The plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug.
  • If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to install the proper outlet. Do not change the plug in any way.

  • Check the bag to ensure proper seating before attempting to use the cleaner.
  • Do not operate the cleaner without a dust bag or the filters.
  • Damage may result in the motor (see Dust Bag and Filter).

HOW TO MAINTAIN

  • The paper bag and filter play a very important role in the efficiency of the vacuum cleaner.
  • The purpose of the paper bag is to trap dirt and at the same time, the paper must be porous enough to allow air to pass through.
  • If the paper bag or filter becomes clogged, no air can pass through the cleaner and no cleaning takes place regardless of how powerful the unit.
  • To keep the cleaner operating at maximum efficiency, change the dust bag frequently and clean the filter as necessary.
  • Some fine particles can restrict airflow very quickly and will decrease performance even before the bag appears to be full.
  • When vacuuming carpet fresheners or cleaners, plaster dust, or similar fine substances, clean the bag and filter more often.
  • NOTE: Turn off the power switch and disconnect the electrical plug from the wall socket before changing the dust bag. Never use the cleaner without a dust bag or filters.

\(12\)

  • Use GENUINE EUREKA washable HEPA filter, 61053.

  • Do not put the damp filter back in a vacuum cleaner. Allow to thoroughly air dry.
  • Use GENUINE EUREKA Final filter, 61262. The final filter can be cleaned. Run under water and allow to thoroughly air dry.

How to Replace Worn Belt or Light Bulb

NOTE: Disconnect the power cord and wands from the electrical hose before replacing the belt or bulb. Belt pulleys can become hot during normal use. To prevent burns, avoid touching the belt pulley when servicing the drive belt.

  1. Remove two screws from the bottom side. To turn over, grasp the hood near the handle socket and lift forward.
    • Replace the headlight bulb (on some models), if necessary.
    • Support the socket with one hand and push the light bulb into the socket; turn to release.
    • Place the new light bulb into the socket; turn to secure. Push the light bulb and socket back so the bulb will not touch the lens cover. Use GENUINE EUREKAreplacement bulb, 59224.
    • Continue to step 2 to change the belt. Skip to steps 7 and 8 to replace the hood on the motorized nozzle.
  2. Remove two screws located in front of the light bulb and lift to remove the brush roll cover.
  3. Lift out the brush roll; replace the new belt around the brush roll shaft.
  4. Return the brush roll to the base.
  5. Rotate the belt onto the motor pulley.
  6. Replace the brush roll cover.
  7. Tilt cover over the ridge and push down.
