FAQ
Q: Can this crimping tool be used for stripping solid copper wire?
A: No, this crimping tool is specifically designed for stripping stranded
copper wire.
Q: How do I know if I have adjusted the crimping force correctly?
A: You can test the tool’s functionality by performing a crimping
operation. If the desired crimping force is not achieved, repeat the
adjustment steps until the desired force is reached.
FOR BEST RESULTS
-
Strip stranded copper wire to length:
- 22 – 14AWG: Strip 0.25″ – 0.30″ (6.4 – 7.5mm)
- 12 – 10AWG: Strip 0.30″ – 0.37″ (7.5 – 9.5mm)
-
2Insert stripped wire into the appropriately sized terminal, as designated by the terminal manufacturer.
-
Place wire and terminal into the appropriate crimping cavity, as indicated by the markings on the tool:
- 22 – 16AWG (Red) – Front cavity 1
- 16 – 14AWG (Blue) – Middle cavity 2
- 12 – 10AWG (Yellow) – Rear cavity 3
-
Line up the terminal so that the metal collar will be compressed by the crimping tool.
-
Squeeze the handles together until they release, indicating a complete crimp cycle.
NOTE : Once a crimping cycle has been started, the handles will not be released until a complete crimp cycle has been achieved. -
Remove the crimped assembly from the tool and verify that the terminal is securely crimped onto the wire.
TO ADJUST THE FORCE REQUIRED FOR CRIMPING (FIG. 1): -
Make sure the tool is completely open.
-
Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the screw 4 holding the adjustment knob 5 in place.
-
Turn the adjustment knob to the desired setting, then replace and tighten the screw.
-
Test the tool’s actuation and repeat steps 1 – 3 until the desired crimp force is achieved.
NOTE : For a lower crimping force, position the adjustment knob so that when the tool is closed, the flat 6 on the adjustment knob faces between the Klein Tools logo and the center pivot, as shown in FIG. 2.
