Setting-up

Safe Use
Under the Working at Height Regulations 2005 all Working at Height should be risk assessed, works planned and appropriately supervised.

BOSS 33050800 Youngman Lightweight Staging - Safe Use

Using the Staging

  1. Set the equipment on a firm, level, non-slip surface.
Assistance may be required when handling and setting up the staging.

  2. Lightweight Staging must be supported on a level surface at each end, such as a trestle, with a minimum overhang of 150mm or 300mm at both ends. Refer to the technical data to determine the appropriate overhang for your length  of staging. Do not mix different heights or types of trestles.

  3. The staging should be tied or secured to prevent unintentional movement on the surface upon which it is positioned. Any method used to secure the staging must be strong, durable and weather resistant and incapable of loosening  or detachment without deliberate actions or tools.

  4. Follow the requirements contained in the work at height regulations when choosing and fitting handrails and toe boards.

  5. Care must be taken to ensure the Lightweight Staging and its associated trestles, handrails etc. are not left unattended or where unauthorised people or the general public cannot use or dismantie it. It should be made secure at all  times.

  6. lf used outdoors, care must be taken to ensure no hazards are present that could pose a risk to the health and safety of both the user and the general public. Refer to safety diagrams in Safe Use or safety label on the product for outlines of the risks (weather, electrical hazards etc.).

  7. lf used indoors, care must be taken to ensure that no hazards are present that could pose a risk to the health and safety of both the user and the general public. Care must also be taken to ensure no passageways; access routes or fire  exits are obstructed.

  8. Do not use additional equipment such as steps, boxes etc. to gain additional height upon the staging. If such extra height is required, either use taller trestles or consider using alternative means of working.

Handrails and Toe Boards

Follow the requirements contained in the work at height regulations when choosing and fitting handrails and toe boards.

Fitting

  1. Raise the outside and inner clamps on the handrail post to allow the staging board to be fitted.
  2. Fit the staging resting on the bottom bar of the handrail post.
  3. Fit the outside clamp first, positioning the clamp hard against the staging stile and secure.
  4. Fit the inner clamp against the opposite stile and secure.
  5. Fit handrail tubes through U bolts of upright post and secure.
  6. Position toe board against the inside of the handrail post and lower toe board clip to secure into place.
