Maintenance

Warning! Prior to any adjustment, maintenance or service work disconnect the mains power plug!
Changing the knives (fig. 17 – 19)

  •   Important!: Always pull the mains plug before changing the knives.

  • Pull the planing knife cover (9) forwards as far as possible so that the entire knife block is exposed.

  • Loosen and remove the five clamping screws (23).

  • Lift the knives (25) and knife block (24) from the cutter block.

  • Remove the chips and any resin from the cutter block and knife support.

  • Place new knives (25) into the cutter block and fix them with the rectangle slots in both screw heads.
(With these two screws, the height adjustment of the knife is done.)

  • Place the knife block (24) onto the knife.

  • Slightly tighten the five clamping bolts (23).

  • Repeat these actions for the second knife.

  • Place the blade adjustment block (18), as shown in Figure 18, on the knife block. Make sure that the knife (25) touches both sides of the blade adjust- ment block (18).

  • With the two set screws (26), the knife can be adjusted for height.

  • After a successful knife setting, all clamping screws must be tightened Please mind:

  • Sharp planer/thicknesser knives guarantee a clean planing surface and put less stress on the motor.

  • After three grinding actions, a maximum material removal of 3 x 0.05 mm may not be exceeded.

  • The planer/thicknesser blades used on this machine are not suitable for rebating and dovetailing.

  • Finally, lower the cutter block guard again onto the table. Cover the cutter block and block it with the star grip screw.

IMPORTANT!

Only use knives which are recommended by the manufacturer for this equipment. If you use other knives there is a risk of injuries due to lack of control.
Avoid over-tightening and the possibility of the thread becoming detached. If the latch (22) or the screws have worn out threads they must be immediately replaced.

Troubleshooting

Fault Possible cause Remedy
The machine will not switch on Mains voltage is not available. Check power

supply
Carbon brushes worn| Contact the customer service workshop
Chip extraction not mounted| Mount chip extraction
A machine without any function suddenly stops| Power failure| Check fuse / overload protection
Motor or switch faulty| Have the motor or switch been checked by a qualified electrician?
Check micro switch| Mount the chip extractor in such a way that the micro switch is started. Check the fuse on the side of the main. Due to the built-in Undervoltage protection, the machine does not restart by itself and must be switched on again when the voltage is restored.
The machine stops when planing| The planning blade is blunt/worn| Change or sharpen the blade
The overload switch has triggered| Switch back on the engine after cool-down time
Check micro switch| Mount the chip suction hood or table locking mechanism in such a way that the micro switch is started.
The high degree of chip take-off| Reduce chip take-off
Feed to high| Reduce the feed speed
Workpiece jammes when planning thick- Nesser| Cutting depth to deep| Reduce cutting depth and process workpiece in several working steps
Speed reduces when planing| The high degree of chip take-off| Reduce chip take-off
Feed to high| Reduce the feed speed
Blades are blunt| Change blades
Unsatisfied surface result| The planning blade is blunt/worn| Change or sharpen the blade
The planning blade has too many chips| Remove chips
Uneven feed| Feed the workpiece with constant pressure and reduced feed speed
Processed surface too rough| Woiicpiece is too wet| Use a dry workpiece
Processed sur- face cracked| The workpiece has been processed against the direction of growth| Process the workpiece from the opposite direction
Too much material planned off at once| Process the workpiece in several operations
Too little workpiece feed when thicknessing| The workpiece has been processed against the direction of growth| Clean the tabletop and treat it thinly with glide wax
---|---|---
Too much material planned off at once| Repair the transport rollers
Chip ejection clogged when thicknessing (without suction system)| The high degree of chip take-off| Reduce chip take-off
Blades are blunt| Change blades
The wood is too wet| Use a dry workpiece
Chip ejection clogged when planing (without suction system)| The high degree of chip take-off| Reduce chip take-off
Feed to high| Reduce the feed speed
Blades are blunt| Change blades
The wood is too wet| Use a dry workpiece
Clogged chip ejection with the suction system when planning or thickness| The chip extraction system is too weak| A chip extraction system must be used, which guarantees an airspeed of at least 20 m/s at the suction connection nozzle
