This user guide takes you through a variety of activities that can be used for your Wooden Counting Blocks set
Count in Numbers up to 5
Use the bases 1-5 to count up to 5.
Children can add the counters 1 by 1 to the bases as they count.
Laying the bases side by side also demonstrates 1 more and 1 less.
Count up to number 10
Use the bases to count up to number 10 either as a number line with 2 x number
5 base pieces:…or as a 10 frame

Additon to 20
Use the bases for simple addition.
Subtraction 0-20
Use the bases for simple subtraction.
Use as a ten frame
Place 2 of the number 5 base pieces horizontally to create a ten frame and use
for all your 10 frame activities:
Number Bonds
Start by choosing a number – in this example, number 5 base is chosen: One More and One Less
There are 2 ways you can show one more and one less with our counting
blocks: Multiplication with
small numbers
Use the bases to practise your first multiplication questions. This is
designed for smaller numbers.
Example:
3 x 3 = ?
Start by getting 3 x number 3 base pieces and adding countersThen line them up and use a number 5 base piece plus additional
bases to more easily calculate the number it goes up to:Answer: 3 x 3 = 9 (1 x number 5 base piece and 1 x number 4 base
piece)
