Product Usage Instructions

Firmware Update:
To update the firmware of your FTM-500DR/DE, follow these steps:

1. Download the firmware update ZIP file specific to your destination version from the provided links.
2. Extract the contents of the ZIP file.
3. Review the Firmware Update Instruction Manual included in the ZIP file.
4. Ensure you have the correct model and version of your transceiver.
5. Connect your transceiver to a computer using a suitable interface cable.
6. Follow the instructions in the Firmware Update Instruction Manual to update the firmware.
7. Do not interrupt the firmware update process and wait for it to complete.
8. If you already have the latest firmware versions mentioned in the manual, it is not necessary to update again.

Bug Fix and Improvements:
The latest firmware update includes bug fixes and improvements. Please refer to the following improvements:

• In SUB Firmware V.01.10 released on 11/22/23, a bug related to SD card operation was fixed and updated to V.01.11.
• In MAIN Firmware V0111.SFL released on 11/22/23, the following improvements were implemented:
  • Added support for ADMS-16.
  • Improved independent operation of the MAIN/SUB VOL control when AESS (audio equalizer) is ON.
  • Added a JPG Import function, including the ability to import any image of QVGA size when the APRS function is ON.
  • Permitted activating the QSY function with a short press of the MAIN Dial while displaying a Beacon with QSY information.
  • Other functional improvements and optimizations have been made.

Currently, we have two different destination versions of the FTM-500DR/DE: USA and EXP (including EU). Please open the Update Instruction Manual and review the information before starting the update firmware. *The firmware versions for Japan and CHN are different from USA or EXP versions. Please check the latest firmware of the Japanese version on the Japan WEB site: http://www.yaesu.com/jp/amateur_index/product/ftm-500d/download.html

You must check the destination version of the radio you have and use the correct update firmware. The destination is marked on the box serial number label. If the box is not available, the country you purchased the radio in may indicate the destination. If the FCC part 15 rules statement is on the radio above the Serial/ID label, it is the USA version. Other versions will not have the FCC label. Update Instruction

CAUTION: Please be sure to confirm the model and the version of your transceiver before starting the update. Writing incorrect firmware to the transceiver may cause abnormal operation or failure.

    In the SUB Firmware V.01.10 released 11/22/23, there was a bug related to SD card operation. We corrected and updated the SUB Firmware V.01.11.

  • C4FM-DSP_V0720.SFL

1. Added support for ADMS-16.
2. Improvement allowing independent operation of the MAIN/SUB VOL control when AESS (audio equalizer) is ON.
3. Added a JPG Import function including the ability to import any image of QVGA size or smaller, that is saved on an SD card, to the FTM-500D for image viewing and image data transmission.
4. Improvement providing the ability to read and write multiple backup files, (Up to 10 backup files can be saved/loaded using an SD card).
5. Improvement permitting operation of the WiRES-X function without distinguishing between bands.
6. Improvement providing the ability to call the WiRES-X function from the current channel During PMG mode.
7. Improvement permitting the current channel information registered in PMG to be transferred to the VFO by holding down the BAND/M→V key.
8. The following operations/functions have been added to the APRS functions: ・Added the Heading UP Compass Beacon details display. ・Added the ability to call up the Station List screen with a long press of the SUB Dial, when the APRS function is ON. ・Permit activating the QSY function with a short press of the MAIN Dial, while displaying a Beacon with QSY information.
9. Other functional improvements and optimizations have been made.
