Description
Hedgehog Haberdash is a bright and colorful memory game designed for 2 to 4 hedgehog children aged 3 and up. The objective of the game is to be the first to decorate your hedgehog with seven leaves of the color you choose. The game developer is Robin Eckert.

Game setup
Before starting the first game, carefully remove all of the game materials from the cardboard panels. Assemble the hedgehogs as illustrated in the rulebook. The cardboard frame and small cardboard pieces from the slits and holes are not needed for the game and can be discarded.

  • Each player selects a hedgehog. The glasses on the hedgehogs indicate the color leaves they are looking for. Place your hedgehog in front of you, pointing towards the center of the table.
  • If you are playing with less than four players, you still play with all four hedgehogs. Place the extra hedgehogs on the edge of the play area, facing toward the center.
  • Put all the leaves in the leaf bag and place it in the center of the table. Keep the cell phone.

How to Play
Play in a clockwise direction. The player who most often brings leaves into the house goes first and rolls the die.

The die can show two different results:

  1. 1 leaf: Without looking, draw one leaf out of the leaf bag.
  2. 2 leaves: Without looking, draw two leaves from the leaf bag, one after another.

When a leaf is drawn from the leaf bag, show it to everyone so that they can see both ends well. If one of the points on the leaf matches the color of your hedgehog’s glasses, you keep the leaf.

If the wind blows the leaves around and one leaf ends up in another player’s hedgehog, you can select that leaf and pull it out. Show the leaf to everyone to confirm if it matches your hedgehog’s glasses color.

End of the game
The game ends as soon as one hedgehog is completely decorated with leaves of its color. This hedgehog is considered to have the most beautiful costume and is congratulated by everyone. It is possible for a hedgehog without a player to win the game. In that case, everyone can try again to win.

A bright and colorful memory game for 2 to 4 hedgehog children ages 3 and up.

  • Game Designer: Felix Beukemann
  • Illustrator: Anna-Lena Kühler
  • Game Developer: Robin Eckert
  • Playtime: about 10 minutes

The hedgehog children are playing dress-up and want to look like their mom and dad! Each grabs a fun pair of glasses in their favorite color, but their costumes aren’t complete yet. “Mom and Dad have nice long quills,” calls out one hedgehog child as they look at their own soft fuzz of spines. Then they have a fun idea. They jump into the pile of leaves and start rummaging around. Who will be the first to collect a spiky costume of pointy leaves in their favorite color?

The goal of the game is to be the first player to dress your own hedgehog with seven leaves in the color that matches its glasses.

  • 30 leaves
  • 1 die
  • 1 leaf bag
  • 1 rulebook

Before the First Game

Carefully remove all of the game materials from the cardboard panels before starting the first game. Assemble the hedgehogs as illustrated. The cardboard frame and small cardboard pieces from the slits and holes are not needed for the game and can be thrown out.

Tip:
All of the hedgehogs fi t into the game box while still assembled. They don’t need to be taken apart at any time, and can even keep their glasses on.

Game Setup

Each player selects a hedgehog. The glasses show which color leaves they’re looking for. Place your hedgehog in front of you, pointing towards the center of the table.

Are you playing with less than four players?

You still play with all four hedgehogs!
Place the extra hedgehogs on the edge of the play area, facing toward the center.

  • Put all the leaves in the leaf bag and place it in the center of the table. Keep the die handy.

How to Play

Play in a clockwise direction. The child who most often brings leaves into the house goes first and rolls the die.

What does the die show?

  • 1 leaf: Without looking, draw one leaf out of the leaf bag.
  • 2 leaves: Without looking, draw two leaves from the leaf bag one after another.

When a leaf is drawn from the leaf bag:
Show everyone the leaf so that they can see both ends well.

Is one of the points the same color as your hedgehog’s glasses?

  • Yes: Fantastic! Put the leaf in your hedgehog so that the point that matches your glasses points up.
  • No: Too bad! Pick one of the two hedgehogs that have glasses in a matching color. If the hedgehog you pick doesn’t have an owner, simply put the leaf in one of its slits. If it belongs to another player, they put the leaf in their hedgehog themselves. No matter what, the point with the same color as the glasses always needs to point up.
  • Wind: Oh no! The wind is blowing the leaves around! Select one leaf that is in another player’s hedgehog and pull it out.

Whenever you pull a leaf out of a hedgehog:
Show it to everyone so that they can see the pulled-out ends well.

Does it match the color of your glasses?

  • Yes: Fantastic! Put the leaf in your hedgehog so that the point that matches your glasses points up.
  • No: Too bad! The leaf lands on the hedgehog wearing the glasses that match the pulled-out point. If the hedgehog doesn’t have an owner, simply put the leaf in one of its slits. If it belongs to another player, they put the leaf in their hedgehog themselves.

No matter what, the point with the same color as the glasses always needs to point up.

Do you not want to pull a leaf from another hedgehog, or is it not possible?

  • You can instead, without looking inside, draw 1 leaf out of the leaf bag.
  • Then the next child takes their turn and rolls the die.

End of the Game

  • The game ends as soon as one hedgehog is completely decorated with leaves in its color. This hedgehog has the most beautiful costume and is congratulated by everyone!
  • It might be possible that a hedgehog without a player wins the game. That’s okay, everyone can try again to win.
