- Gather the necessary tools: You’ll need a screwdriver, lap ruler, marker pen, a hammer, goggles and a chisel.
- Start by closing the door to keep it from falling when you remove the pins or screws.
- Have someone help you hold the door in place, especially if you are dealing with heavy wooden doors that can cause damage or injury if they accidentally fall.
- Pro tip: Try sliding a block of wood in the space underneath the door for support.
- Remove the old hinges: Use a screwdriver to unscrew the old hinges from the door and the door frame. Remove the old lockset and hinge pins and take out the door. Remove the hinge plates from the door as well.
Determine the location of the hinge on the door and the frame. Hold the door in place and use a pencil to mark where the hinge will be installed on both the door and the frame. Drill pilot holes for the screws using a drill bit that is slightly smaller than the screws. The pilot holes will prevent the wood from splitting when the screws are inserted. Install the hinge on the door using the screws provided. Make sure the hinge is flush with the edge of the door and that it is level.

Reinstall the hinge: Put the hinge back on the door and screw it in place. With these easy steps, you’ll be able to install or repair your door hinges in no time. They also provide stability and support, preventing objects from falling or sagging. In addition, hinges can be used to adjust the angle of an object or to secure it in place.
