PRODUCT APPLICATION
SURFACE PREPARATION
Remove metal drains and hardware. Remove loose paint and rust with a wire
brush or sandpaper. Repair chips and cracks with a patching compound similar
to Liquid Steel®.
Remove any mildew with a solution of bleach and water and rinse thoroughly.
Scrub dirty or stained surfaces with an abrasive cleaner like Comet®. Rinse
with fresh water and allow to thoroughly dry. Remove all caulk. Wipe area
clean.
Prepare surface with an abrasive pad and Lime-A-Way®, rinse and repeat if
necessary. Sand the entire surface with #400/#600 grit wet/dry sandpaper.
Vacuum or rinse away any residue. Wipe the surface with a tack cloth
immediately before painting to remove dust.
WARNING! LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESSES SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH-approved respirator to control lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a HEPA vacuum and a wet mop. Before you sand, find out how to protect yourself and your family by contacting the National Lead Information Hotline at 1-800424-LEAD or log on to www.epa.gov/lead.
APPLICATION
Use when the temperature is between 50-90ºF (10-32ºC) and humidity is below
85% to ensure proper drying. Properly ventilate the area by opening windows or
using fans. Thoroughly mix Part B to ensure any settled pigment is re-
dispersed.
Add Part A to Part B and mix thoroughly for 1 minute. Thin no more than 10% (3
ounces per 1-quart) with 100% isopropyl alcohol (not rubbing alcohol),
acetone, or xylene. If less than a full (1 quart) kit is needed, mix in a 4:1
ratio of base to an activator in a separate container. Apply within 6 hours of
mixing.
Brush: Use a fine quality, fine bristle varnish brush. Brush in one
direction only for a smooth surface and feather the edges as you paint to
avoid a hard line between painted areas.
Avoid excessive brushing to ensure an even coat and smooth finish. Apply two
coats, waiting at least 1 hour between coats. If necessary, a third coat may
be applied the next day with a second kit.
Roller: Use a high-quality, ¼” short nap roller made for kitchen or bath use. Apply two coats, waiting at least 1 hour between coats. Avoid excessive brushing to ensure an even coat and smooth finish. If necessary, a third coat may be applied the next day with a second kit. If desired, a conventional HVLP or airless sprayer may also be used.
DRY and RECOAT TIMES
Based on 70ºF (21ºC) and 50% relative humidity. Allow more time at cooler
temperatures. Small bubbles will appear on the surface as you paint. As the
paint dries, the self-leveling properties will eliminate these bubbles. Dries
to the touch in 1 hour. Allow drying for at least one hour before applying a
second coat. Allow drying 3 days before exposing to water.
CLEAN-UP
Clean brush and other application tools immediately with lacquer thinner or
isopropyl alcohol. Properly dispose of all soiled rags. Properly discard empty
containers. Do not burn or place in the home trash compactor.
