Product Usage Instructions

1. Introduction

When using the 022-6069 Rescue Assist Sling, it is important to
create a rescue plan and provide the means to implement the plan.
This plan must be communicated to all equipment users, authorized
persons, and rescuers. Specialized equipment may be required for
rescue operations beyond the scope of this manual. Users must be
trained in the inspection, installation, operation, and proper
usage of their Rescue Equipment and Rescue Plan. Refer to ANSI
Z359.4-2013 for specific rescue information.

2. Worker Classifications

It is essential to understand the definitions of worker
classifications:

• Authorized Person: An individual approved or
  assigned by the employer to perform specific duties or be at
  specific locations on the jobsite.

• Qualified or Competent Person: Responsible for
  supervising the jobsite and ensuring safety regulations are
  complied with.

3. Applicable Safety Standards

  INTRODUCTION
  When using this equipment, employers must create a rescue plan and provide the means to implement the plan. This plan must be communicated to all equipment users, authorized persons, and rescuers.   Read and understand the definitions of those who work in proximity of, or may be exposed to, fall hazards:
  Qualified Person: “Qualified Person” means one who, by possession of a recognized degree, certificate, or professional standing, or who by extensive knowledge, training, and experience, has successfully demonstrated their ability to solve or resolve problems relating to the subject matter, the work, or the project. Competent Person: “Competent Person” means one who is capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions which are unsanitary, hazardous, or dangerous to employees, and who has authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them.

APPLICABLE SAFETY STANDARDS

Substitutions or replacements made with competitor’s components or subsystems may jeopardize compatibility of equipment, possibly affecting the safety and reliability of the overall system.

  to work together in such a way that their sizes and shapes do not cause their gate mechanisms to inadvertently open regardless of how they become oriented.

Using a connector that is undersized or irregular in shape (1) to connect a snap hook or carabiner could allow the connector to force open the gate of the component. When force is applied, the gate of the hook or carabiner presses against the non-compliant part (2) and forces open the gate (3). This allows the snap hook or carabiner to disengage (4) from the connection point.

MAKING CONNECTIONS
Snap hooks and carabiners used with this equipment must be double locking and/or twist lock. Ensure all connections are compatible in size, shape, and strength. Do not use equipment that is not compatible. Ensure all connectors are fully closed and locked.
Safewaze connectors (hooks, carabiners, and D-rings) are designed to be used only as specified in each product’s manual. See Figure 2 for examples of inappropriate connections. Do not connect snap hooks and carabiners:

• To a D-ring to which another connector is attached. In a manner that would result in a load on the gate (with the exception of tie back hooks). In a false engagement, where features that protrude from the snap hook or carabiner
  catch on the anchor, and without visual confirmation seems to be fully engaged to the anchor point. To each other. By wrapping the web lifeline around an anchor and securing to lifeline, except as allowed for tie back models. To any object which is shaped or sized in a way that the snap hook or carabiner will not close and lock, or that roll-out could occur. In a manner that does not allow the connector to align properly while under load.

Large throat snap hooks must not be connected to standard size D-rings or similar objects which will result in a load on the gate if the hook or D-ring twists or rotates, unless the snap hook complies with ANSI Z359.1-2007 or ANSI Z359.12 and is equipped with a 3,600 lb. (16 kN) gate.

ANCHORAGE
The structure to which the rescue system is attached must be capable of withstanding force in all directions permitted by the system of at least 3,100 lbs. (13.8kN).
Anchorage connections must be stabilized to prevent unwanted movement or disengagement of the rescue system from its anchor.
The anchorage connector should not be attached to more than one rescue system.

PURPOSE
In the event of a fall that results in a situation where the fallen worker cannot be easily reached through conventional means, the Rescue Assist Sling can be used as a simple and fast rescue solution. The Rescue Assist Sling can be deployed in order to facilitate the necessary rescue operations demonstrated in this manual. The system is engineered to raise or lower the fallen individual to the closest possible rescue point that allows for the proper and safe completion of the rescue process. This Rescue Sling can be removed from packaging to allow for training, provided no damage occurs to the components and they are properly stowed.
USAGE INSTRUCTIONS
The following instructions will demonstrate the procedures utilized to deploy and operate the system properly, and how to recover/stow the system after the fall event has been resolved. 1. After recognizing that a fall has occurred, the rescuer will retrieve their Rescue Assist Sling from a predesignated location. The rescuer should immediately attempt to communicate with the fallen worker to determine if the individual is conscious. The consciousness of the fallen worker will determine the method of system deployment and utilization. If the fallen worker is conscious, continue to Step 2. If the individual is unconscious, a complete Rescue Assist System will be required. 2. In the event the fallen worker is conscious, the Rescue Sling will be utilized to assist in the rescue. After establishing verbal contact with the fallen worker, the rescuer will attach the Rescue Sling to the rescue device and carefully lower the Rescue Sling to the fallen worker. The Rescue Sling should be lowered to the fallen worker in the open position with the pads as close together as possible (Figure 3). 3. The fallen worker will receive the Rescue Sling and will take the small D-ring end, pass the sling under both arms, and wrap the sling around the upper torso. Once the Rescue Sling is under both arms, the fallen worker will attach the sling back to itself utilizing the small D-ring and integral spring loaded rescue clip assembly on the sling. The worker should position the pads on the Rescue Sling under each armpit. The fallen worker can then tighten the sling around their torso by pulling down on the sizing adjustment strap (Figure 4). 4. The fallen worker can then be raised or lowered by means of a hoisting method to an adequate elevation for other rescuers to secure the individual (Figures 5 & 6). 5. In specific situations, it may be more expedient for another rescuer closer in elevation to the fallen worker to facilitate the rescue. In this event, the Rescue Sling also comes equipped with a lateral guide strap. The rescuer can deliver another rope assembly to the fallen worker which can attach to the lateral guide strap. Another rescuer can then guide the fallen worker laterally to a closer rescue location (Figure 7). 6. Once rescue operations are complete and the fallen worker has received appropriate medical attention, the Rescue Assist Sling can be removed from operation and restowed. The unit should be inspected for any damage or defects prior to storage and stored in an air tight and water repellent location to prevent accidental damage to the system. Make sure sling is fully dry before storing. Being that a rescue situation can arise in an extremely rapid manner, a very quick visual inspection may be all the user has time for prior to use.

CLEANING
Use a dry cloth to brush and clean the D-ring and and snap hook of the Rescue Sling. The webbing and pads can be cleaned with warm water and a mild soap solution. Dry sling before storing. Avoid exposing the Rescue Sling to chemicals that could produce a harmful effect.
STORAGE
Store the Rescue Sling in a cool, dry, and clean environment out of direct sunlight. Do not store wet.

• Before disposing of the system, cut the webbing into sections to prevent future use. Inspect work area to ensure that location is free of any damage including but not limited

El uso de un conector que es de menor tamaño o tiene una forma irregular (1) para conectar un gancho de resorte o un mosquetón podría permitir que el conector fuerce la apertura de la puerta del componente. PROPÓSITO

La Correa de Asistencia para Rescate puede ser desplegada para facilitar las operaciones de rescate necesarias que se muestran en este manual. El sistema está diseñado para elevar o descender a la persona caída hasta el punto de rescate más cercano posible que permita la correcta y segura realización del proceso de rescate. Este Correa de Rescate puede ser retirada del embalaje para permitir la capacitación, siempre que no se dañen los componentes y se guarden adecuadamente.
INSTRUCCIONES DE USO
Las siguientes instrucciones mostrarán los procedimientos utilizados para desplegar y operar el sistema correctamente, y cómo recuperar/guardar el sistema después de que se haya resuelto el evento de caída 1. Después de reconocer que ha ocurrido una caída, el rescatista recuperará su Correa de Asistencia para Rescate desde una lugar predefinida. El rescatista debería intentar comunicarse de inmediato con el trabajador caído para determinar si está consciente. La conciencia del trabajador caído determinará el método de despliegue y utilización del sistema. Si el trabajador caído está consciente, continúe con el Paso 2. Si el individuo está inconsciente, se requerirá un Sistema de Asistencia para Rescate completo. 2. En caso de que el trabajador caído esté consciente, se utilizará la Correa de Rescate para ayudar en el rescate. Después de establecer contacto verbal con el trabajador caído, el rescatista adjuntará la Correa de Rescate al dispositivo de rescate y la bajará cuidadosamente hasta el trabajador caído. La Correa de Rescate debe bajarse al trabajador caído en posición abierta, con las almohadillas lo más juntas posible (Figura 3). 3. El trabajador caído recibirá la Correa de Rescate y tomará el extremo pequeño con el anillo en D, pasará la correa por debajo de ambos brazos y la envolverá alrededor del torso superior. Una vez que la Correa de Rescate esté bajo ambos brazos, el trabajador caído la volverá a sujetar utilizando el anillo en D pequeño y el conjunto de clip de rescate de resorte integrado en la correa. El trabajador debe colocar las almohadillas de la Correa de Rescate bajo cada axila. El trabajador caído puede luego ajustar la correa alrededor de su torso tirando hacia abajo de la correa de ajuste de tamaño (Figura 4). 4. El trabajador caído puede ser elevado o descendido mediante un método de izado a una altura adecuada para que otros rescatistas aseguren al individuo (Figuras 5 y 6). 5. En situaciones específicas, puede ser más conveniente que otro rescatista más cerca en elevación al trabajador caído facilite el rescate. En este caso, la Correa de Rescate también está equipada con una correa guía lateral. El rescatista puede entregar otra ensamblaje de cuerda al trabajador caído que se puede sujetar a la correa guía lateral. Otro rescatista puede guiar entonces al trabajador caído lateralmente a un lugar de rescate más cercano (Figura 7). 6. Una vez completas las operaciones de rescate y el trabajador caído ha recibido la atención médica adecuada, la Correa de Asistencia para Rescate se puede retirar de la operación y guardar. La unidad debe ser inspeccionada en busca de daños o defectos antes de almacenarla y guardarse en un lugar hermético al aire y repelente al agua para prevenir daños accidentales al sistema. Asegúrese de que la correa esté completamente seca antes de guardarla. Dado que una situación de rescate puede surgir de manera extremadamente rápida, una inspección visual muy rápida puede ser todo lo que el usuario tiene tiempo de hacer antes de usarla.

INSPECCIÓN

EL USUARIO DEBE MANTENER LAS INSTRUCCIONES DISPONIBLES PARA CONSULTA. Registre la Fecha de Primer Uso en la Sección de Información del Usuario

Antes de cada uso, inspeccione la cinta y costura de la Correa de Asistencia 022-6069 en busca de posibles defectos, que pueden incluir pero no se limitan a corrosión, deformación, picaduras, rebabas, superficies ásperas, bordes afilados, grietas, óxido, acumulación de pintura, calentamiento excesivo, alteraciones y etiquetas faltantes o ilegibles.

LIMPIEZA
