INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Safety instructions
The instrument must be used according to the instructions of this manual.
Made to be used indoors, do not expose to the rain.
For a natural and correct cooling, the power supply must stand on its four
rubber thrusts and all ventilations must be widely cleared.
The plug of the feeding cable being used as the switch off device, the
instrument must be connected to a mains socket (230V 50/60Hz) easily
accessible
No intervention is authorized inside the casing.
LEAD-ACID BATTERY CHARGER, WARNING :
**** Explosive gas, avoid the flames and sparks. Disconnect the power supply
before plugging or unplugging the connectors on the battery. This power supply
has switches and relays that can make some sparks, so be sure that the power
supply is located in a safe place when charging a battery. Respect the load
polarity and voltage of the 12 V or 24V batteries. Do not load non refillable
batteries.
WORKING
The green LED “ON” enlightened indicates a voltage output presence.
The red LED “STATUS” enlightened indicates one of two following faults :
- The output fuse F1 (5×20 F5A) is off, no output voltage.
- The internal temperature of the power supply is too large and temperature protection is activated, the output voltage drops.
The power supply returned to normal operation when the internal temperature
will be within the specified range.
The ALF2902M is a regulated and adjusted from 5 to 29 V power supply.
Protected,
It can be used in different ways :
4-1Traditional regulated power supply .
- Choose the output voltage thanks to the selector and the fine voltage adjustment.
- Connect the power supply on main, the green LED lights up.
- Connect the charge. If required power is superior to the one that the ALF2902M can supply, a power limitation starts according to diagram 1.
4-2 Lead-acid battery charger 12 V or 24 V.
Compared to the output current of the ALF2902M, for a time of charge of 14 hours, the nominal capacity of the free electrolyte battery is of 35 Ah for 12 V and 20 AH for 24 V.
CAUTION : Before connecting a battery, the power supply must be adjusted on the battery voltage, proceeding like indicated here :
Charging of free electrolyte battery.
- Disconnect the battery of your vehicle or instrument.
- Connect the ALF2902M on the input voltage, turn the switch ON (I), the green LED lights up.
12 V battery : Place the voltage selector on 14 V.
Turn the adjustment knob in order to light up the yellow LED 12 V. (voltage
range : 13,2 to 14,1 V)
24 V battery : Place the voltage selector on 28 V. Turn the adjustment
knob in order to light up the yellow LED 24 V. (voltage range : 26,4 à 28,2
V).
Connect a set of silicone insulated leads (CSS100 for example) with a set of
insulated alligator clips (JPCI for example.) between the power supply and the
battery like indicated here :
Red cord between the positive output (red socket) and the “+” of the battery.
Black cord between the negative output (black socket) and the “-” of the
battery.
If the red LED lights up, the battery is connected upside down. In this case, disconnect the power supply from the battery and from the mains, then replace the fuse F1 (5×20 F5A).
Replug the power supply to main, (green and yellow LED light up, red LED is switched off) then plug the battery respecting the polarity. At the beginning of load, if the battery is completely discharged, the yellow LED switch off because the power supply is put in current limitation. Progressively, the voltage is going to increase and the LED is going to enlighten. The power supply works in voltage regulation.
At the end of loading (after 14 hours), stop the power supply and disconnect the set of leads.
Charging of sealed lead-acid batteries
Sealed lead-acid batteries manufacturer recommend not to exceed a load current
equal to one third of the nominal current. This is why we recommend not to go
under the following capacities : 10 Ah for a 12 V battery and 7 Ah for a 24 V
battery.
In any cases, see the instructions manual of the battery’s manufacturer.
For loading, follow the same instructions as for the free electrolyte battery.

MAINTENANCE
No particular maintenance is required for this instrument.
Avoid dust, moisture, shocks : your instrument will be grateful for that.
If the green indicator does not light up when switching on, check :
- The mains voltage
- The connection to mains.
- The output fuse «F1» 5×20 F5A if red LED is lighted up.
AFTER SALES SERVICE
During TWO YEARS , spare parts and workmanship are guaranteed. This
guarantee does not apply to instrument presenting defects or failures caused
by an improper use.
Return expenses are borne by the client. Only devices returned with a dated
purchasing invoice can be recovered by the guarantee. Any intervention carried
out by unauthorized persons or organizations, shall void the guarantee.
