ELECTRICAL SAFETY

The plug of the power tool must match with the base of the socket. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plug with earthed power tools.

Unmodified plugs and matching bases will reduce the risk of electric shock. Avoid body contact with grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, cookers and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is grounded. Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering the power tool will increase the risk of electric shock. Hold this power tool by insulated gripping surfaces only, when performing an operation where the spinning accessory may contact hidden wiring or its own cord.

A spinning accessory contacting a “live” wire may make exposed metal parts of this power tool “live” and could give the operator an electric shock.

CHECK THE GOOD CONDITION OF THE SANDER

Make sure that all the screws in the sander are perfectly tightened. In cold climates or when the sander has not been used for a period, allow the sander to warm up by leaving it to run empty for a few minutes, to ensure that all internal components are perfectly lubricated. Make sure that the possible installed accessories are perfectly fitted in place.

BEFORE STARTING WORK

Make sure that the sander is firmly supported before using. Check that no one is standing beneath you when using the sander in high areas. Keep your hands away from all moving parts of the sander.

DURING THE OPERATION

Do not leave the sander operating without having it firmly fixed. Only turn it on when you are sure you have full control over it. Do not point the sander at anyone while in use. When operating the sander will produce vibrations. The screws may gradually come loose, and possibly cause faults or accidents. Keep your hands away from all moving parts of the sander.

AT FINISH WORKING

Do not touch the possible accessories installed in the sander after use. It may be hot and cause burns. Some materials worked with may contain chemicals or toxic components. Avoid inhaling these substances or allowing them to come into contact with your skin. Use PPE designed to prevent and protect against incidents of this kind.

OTHER SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Maintain a fi rm grip on this power tool and position your body and arm to allow you to resist kickback forces. Always use auxiliary handle, if provided, for maximum control over kickback or torque reaction during start-up. The operator can control torque reactions or kickback forces, if proper precautions are taken.
  2. Do not position your body in the area where this power tool will move if kickback occurs.
  3. Use special care when working corners, sharp edges etc.
  4. Do not use excessively oversized sanding paper. Follow the recommendations of Werku, when selecting sanding paper. Larger sanding paper extending beyond the sanding pad presents a laceration hazard and may cause snagging, tearing of the disc or kickback.

    Description Of The Product

USE INSTRUCTIONS

Before starting up the sander, we recommend that you carefully read all of the instructions as indicated. Please respect all regulations regarding the prevention of accidents, health and safety directives, laws and applicable restrictions for work places. The sander must only be used by persons who have been instructed in its use and only for the purposes for which it has been designed.

POWER SUPPLY

Make sure the power supply is adapted to the requirements shown on the information panel of the sander (1 ). Using the motor at low voltage will make it operate slowly. This will reduce performance and may cause the motor to overheat.

EXTENSION CORD

If the working area is at some distance from the power supply, use an extension cord of enough diameter and quality.

OPERATION

To turn the sander on, press the power switch (1 ). Move the sander in long sweeping strokes along the surface being sanded, letting the sander do the work Pushing down on the sander slows the removal rate and produces an inferior quality surface. Never operate with the sander inclined, this can damage the base and break the sandpaper (4). Be sure to check your work often. This sander is capable of removing material rapidly, especially with coarse paper. To produce the best finish possible, start with coarse grit sandpaper and change gradually to finer and finer paper. A final sanding with a piece of wellworn fine sandpaper will produce a professional looking fi nish that in many cases will need no hand sanding at all. The rate at which the dust collection bag will fi II up will vary with the type of material being sanded and the coarseness of the sandpaper. For best results, empty the bag frequently and check the opening for clogging. When sanding painted surfaces, you may find that the sandpaper loads up and clogs with paint. A heat gun will work much better to remove paint before sanding. Avoid overloading the sander. Overloading will result in a considerable reduction in speed and efficiency and the sander will become hot. In this event, run sander at a no-load condition for a minute or two.

FIXING THE SANDING DISCS IN PLACE

Disconnect the sander from the power supply before making any adjustments or replacing accessories. The sanding discs are held in place with velcro. Align the sanding disc over the plate so that their edges meet. Press the sanding disc in place onto the base until it is firmly held in place (5).

DUST EXTRACTION

The sander includes a integrated dust collector (6).

TO EMPTY DUST COLLECTOR

While holding the sander and remove the dust collector cup. Gently shake or tap the dust collector to empty. Put again the cup in the dust collector. Sanding dust exhaust may create a breathing hazard.

PRECAUTIONS TO TAKE WHEN SANDING PAINT

Sanding of lead based paint is not recommended due to the difficulty of controlling the contaminated dust. The greatest danger of lead poisoning is to children and pregnant women.

CLEANING AND DISPOSAL

All surfaces in the work area should be vacuumed and thoroughly cleaned daily for the duration of the sanding project. Vacuum filter bags should be changed frequently .

MAINTENANCE

The sander has been designed for a long working life with minimum maintenance. Optimum use depends on correct care of the sander and regular cleaning. To prevent accidents, always unplug the sander from the power source before cleaning or performing any maintenance. The sander may be cleaned effectively using compressed air after each use. If compressed air is not available, use a brush to remove dust from the sander. Motor ventilation vents and switch levers must be dept clean and free of foreign matter Do not attempt to clean by inserting pointed objects through openings. Cetain cleaning agents and solvents damage plastic parts, among them are gasoline, carbon tetrachloride, chlorinated cleaning solvents, ammonia and household cleaners containing ammonia. Do not use any of these to clean the sander. Should excessive sparking occur, have a Werku ®offi cial repair service exam and/or replace the carbon brushes.
