How often does it have to be regenerated? How do you know when regeneration is needed?
Check the quality of the water using the included test strip. If the water is hard, regeneration is needed.
Can I travel with this unit laying down?
The water softener must be in an “upright position” when you are transporting it, or only moving it across the room. Do not lay the softener on its side because the rest water in the water filter vessel might flow out.
I just hooked this up and it leaks from under the black cap on top. Is there a way to fix this?
Twist and tighten the cap/head properly. Replace the O-ring.
How long does the resin last?
In general, the standard resin can last up to 8-10 years when softening water.
Will this eliminate water spots to wash car?
If it's caused by Ca or Mg (water hardness), it's workable.
How much salt do I add prior to the first use?
You don't need to use salt, only add salt to regenerate when the output water hardness is high.
Will this get rid of the sulfur smell?
The water softener is to remove hard minerals fram your water to make it soft. The most popular and cost-effective way to remove the sulfur smell is to run the water through a bed of carbon.
Do you have to disconnect to add salt and regenerate?
Yes. Disconnect the hoses, add salt, and regenerate.
What is the max fill flow rate?
The maximum flow rate is 10 liters. The water pressure would be adjusted by the inlet valve.
Do I still need to use water filters with this product?
If u have a sediment filter etc it's perfect, it will reduce flushing frequency.
Can I use salt crystals in the regeneration?
Please use water softener salt only.
How do I know when it’s time to recharge and which test strips are recommended?
You can use the water test strip kit that comes with the set. Please regenerate when the output water hardness is high.
Can you drink the softened water? If not, what is the best workaround?
This softened water is not drinking water. The best way to make soft water drinkable is to use additional filters like carbon blocks or reverse-osmosis filters.
Can this be used in an apartment?
Yes, but its inlet and outlet should be converted to domestic water pipe size.
How do you winterize it?
Do not allow the unit to freeze full of water. This could cause cracking in the exterior wall and/or fittings. Drain the unit by flipping it onto its head. Once empty, you should open the head and allow for moisture to evaporate. Once the resin is dry, screw on the head and plug the input/output with both ends of the hose.
