Product Usage Instructions

Aansteken (Lighting)

  1. Place the kamado on a stable surface, preferably outdoors and away from flammable materials.
  2. Choose high-quality hardwood charcoal for optimal performance.
  3. Ensure that the ventilation openings of the kamado are fully open before lighting to support proper airflow.
  4. Place a few firelighters strategically on the charcoal grate to promote even ignition.
  5. Pile the charcoal on top of the firelighters, making sure not to obstruct the airflow.
  6. Ignite the firelighters using a long lighter or matches, keeping a safe distance.
  7. Immediately close the lid of the kamado after lighting to increase temperature and stabilize combustion.
  8. Adjust the ventilation openings after approximately 10-15 minutes to reach the desired temperature. A larger opening allows more airflow and higher temperature, while a smaller opening reduces temperature.

Bijvullen (Refilling)

Refilling the kamado may be necessary during long cooking sessions when additional fuel is required. Follow these steps to safely refill the kamado:

  1. Choose the right moment to refill the kamado, preferably when the lid is open for other reasons, such as flipping or checking the food. This minimizes heat and smoke loss during refilling.
  2. Use a gridlifter or other barbecue tool to lift the grate, always wearing heat-resistant gloves.
  3. Carefully add more charcoal to the kamado and let it reach the appropriate temperature for cooking.

Safety Information

  • Make sure there is no canopy, awning, roof or the like above the kamado.
  • Although there is heat from the kamado, the kamado can never function as a heater, this product is only meant to prepare food.
  • The kamado should not be moved until it has cooled down completely.
  • Do not use glass or cans on the kamado, due to the enormous pressure it may explode.
  • Before storing or placing the cover over the kamado, make sure the kamado has cooled down completely.
  • Fire extinguisher: Make sure you always have a fire extinguisher handy in case of an accident or emergency. Learn how to use a fire extinguisher before using the kamado.
  • Cleaning: Let the kamado cool down completely before you start cleaning it. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasives on the outside of the kamado. Clean the grill grids and other parts according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Always check the product for any damage before use.

Operating instructions

Lighting

  1. Place the kamado on a stable surface: Make sure the kamado is on a solid, heat-resistant surface, preferably outside and away from flammable materials.
  2. Choose the right charcoal: Kamados work best with high-quality charcoal, such as hardwood charcoal, as it burns longer and reaches a higher temperature.
  3. Set vents: Check that the ventilation openings of the kamado are fully open before you start lighting. This ensures good airflow that supports combustion.
  4. Place firelighters: Place a few firelighters on the charcoal grid of the kamado. Place them strategically to promote even ignition.
  5. Stack the charcoal: Stack the charcoal in the kamado on top of the firelighters. Ensure that airflow is not obstructed by using too much charcoal.
  6. Light the firelighters: Light the firelighters with a long lighter or matches. Make sure to keep a safe distance while lighting.
  7. Close the lid: Close the lid of the kamado immediately after lighting. This helps raise the temperature and stabilise the burn.
  8. Adjust ventilation: After about 10-15 minutes, the kamado should start heating up. Adjust the vents to achieve the desired temperature. A larger opening means more air supply and a higher temperature, while a smaller opening will lower the temperature.
  9. Wait until the desired temperature is reached: Depending on what you want to cook, you should wait for the kamado to reach the right temperature. This can vary from recipe to recipe.

Refilling

Refuelling a kamado may be necessary during cooking, especially for prolonged cooking sessions where you may need extra fuel. Here are the steps you can follow to safely refill a kamado.

  1. Wait for the right moment: Choose the right moment to refill the kamado. Ideally, wait until the lid of the kamado is open for other reasons, such as when you are turning or checking the food. This minimises the loss of heat and smoke during refilling.
  2. Lift the grid with a grid lifter or other barbecue tool, always use heat-resistant gloves for this.
  3. Carefully pour additional charcoal into the kamado and let the kamado return to the right temperature for the meat.

Quench

  1. Close the vents: Before you start putting out the kamado, close the vents completely. This will reduce the supply of oxygen and smother the fire.
  2. Wait for the fuel to burn out: Leave the kamado with the lid closed until the fuel (charcoal) is completely burnt out. This may take some time, depending on the amount of fuel you have used.
  3. Be patient: It is essential to be patient and give the kamado enough time to cool down. Do not open the kamado immediately after the fire has gone out, as this can lead to a sudden burst of dissolved gases and be potentially dangerous.
  4. Check the temperature: Use the thermometer to check the temperature inside the kamado. Wait until the temperature has dropped to a safe level before proceeding.
  5. Remove the ashes: Once the kamado has cooled completely, you can remove the ashes. Carefully open the vents and tilt the kamado to allow the ashes to fall out. If necessary, use an ash poke or ash tray to remove the ash residue. Make sure the ashes have cooled completely before disposing of them.
  6. Clean the kamado: Clean the inside of the kamado with a brush to remove any remaining ash residue or dirt. Be sure to use only approved cleaning products that are safe for use in a kamado.
  7. Close the kamado: Close the lid of the kamado after you have completed all cleaning tasks. And place the cover over it. This helps to protect the kamado from weather and moisture.

Important points of attention

  • Make sure the kamado has cooled down completely before touching or moving it.
  • Be careful when removing ashes to avoid spills and possible fire hazards.
