Principle of Operation
If the vacuum increases (decreases in absolute pressure) beyond the setpoint, the vacuum breaker opens. A soft resilient Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) seat provides quiet opening and closing. This combined with the internal spring prevents ‘chatter’ when the valve is operating.
Installation
WARNING
Personal injury, property damage, equipment damage or leakage due to
escaping steam or bursting of pressure-containing parts may result if this
vacuum breaker is over-pressured or is installed where service conditions
could exceed the limits given in the specifications or where conditions exceed
any ratings of the adjacent piping or piping connections.
To avoid such injury or damage, provide pressure-relieving or pressure- limiting devices (as required by the appropriate code, regulation, or standard) to prevent service conditions from exceeding those limits.
Always install the Type VB in a vertical position with the system connection on the bottom.
Maintenance
The Type VB Vacuum Breaker is maintenance-free. It is designed to have a
rugged brass body construction for long life. No bolts, gaskets or adjustments
are necessary.
