THE APPLIANCE IS NOT TO BE USED UNTIL ANY LEAK IS CORRECTED.
A gas appliance repairman or LP gas dealer should be called if attempts to
stop the leak(s) are unsuccessful and, in such case, the LP gas supply must be
shut off at the cylinder valve or the cylinder must be removed from the
appliance until the leak(s) is corrected.
Inspect hose prior to each use of the unit. The hose assembly must be replaced prior to the appliance being put into operation if there is evidence of excessive abrasion or wear, or if the hose is damaged.
Contact FMI Brands Inc. should you require a replacement hose.
Inspect burner prior to each use. Burner must be replaced prior to the appliance being put into operation if there is evidence of damage. Replacement burners are available from FMI Brands Inc.
Inspect the burner tube venturi and ensure the mesh screen is in place, prior to each use. Insects will build nests in the tube if they can get in and this can cause a back-flame event! Always clear all valve and gas orifices of any foreign debris including spider webs prior to lighting. If any doubt there may be a nest inside, use a pipe cleaner up the tube.

SECTION 1: ASSEMBLY
Enclosed are three bags of rocks, one factory installed 3 m / 10 ft propane-
rated hose with attached regulator, one propane tank stabilizer ring, one lid
and one carry strap.
NOTE TO USER:
Before igniting the unit for the first time, follow steps one through 5 in the
below Ignition section.
STEP 1 Remove plastic bags containing the rocks, propane stabilizer ring and
cover and carry kit.
STEP 2 Open the single bag containing mid-sized rocks, labelled conveniently
for you “M” and arrange in burner area.
STEP 3 Open the single bag containing larger sized rocks, labelled
conveniently for you “L” and arrange on top of the medium sized rocks.
SECTION 2: IGNITION
STEP 1 Ensure that the appliance valve dial is in the “OFF” position by
pushing and turning clockwise until the dial stops.
Our preferred configuration is pictured here. Never handle rocks which have not been allowed to cool from exposure to flame. Never attempt to rearrange rocks while unit is ignited.
STEP 2 Securely attach regulator (large end of hose) to your propane cylinder.
STEP 4 The third bag of rocks are included as spares and labelled “Spare
Rocks”. These can be stored and used as replacements.
Your included Cover & Carry kit is to be used for storage and transportation
as shown.
Note: · Rocks are not to exceed a
maximum weight of 2.5 kgs / 5.5lbs. · Never use a lid to extinguish the flame
on your Outland Firebowl® · The lid and carry straps (Cover & Carry Kit) is to
be used for storage and transportation only.
WARNING:
Never use the lid to cover your Outland Firebowl while the burner is in
operation. After use allow the Firebowl to cool for at least 10 minutes prior
to deploying the lid and carry strap.
STEP 3 Extend hose to full length and ensure that the propane tank is as far as safely possible from the Firebowl and place the tank in the included stabilizer ring.
Caution: Trip Hazard!

SECTION 2: IGNITION (continued)
WARNING:
The hose should not be twisted or kinked when attached to the gas cylinder.
The hose should never touch the appliance. Ensure that the appliance is kept
at a minimum distance of 0.91m (36″) from the gas cylinder.
STEP 4 SLOWLY turn cylinder valve to the open position to avoid tripping
the excess flow safety device in the gas regulator. For more information about
the excess flow safety device see STEP 8.
STEP 8 GOT A LOW FLAME?: If your firebowl experiences low flame, or flame
height does not appear to be normally adjusted by the gas knob, it is likely
that the gas cylinder is low in fuel, or the excess flow safety device has
been tripped in the gas regulator.
CORRECTIVE ACTION: Confirm your gas cylinder is NOT empty. Close gas supply
valve. Open and then close the appliance gas knob valve to release pressure.
Be sure appliance valve is OFF. Disconnect and reconnect the cylinder
regulator connection. Slowly open the gas supply valve. Perform Leak Test and
follow Ignition sequence.
STEP 5 Leak Test all connections. See section labeled “Leak Test” (page 4).
STEP 6 Using a lighter or match, ignite lighter and hold flame slightly above
the burner, then open the valve on the appliance slowly by turning (counter-
clockwise) until the unit ignites.
WARNING:
Ensure that no parts of your body, clothing, or any other combustible material
are above the burner before, during and after ignition.
WHAT IS AN EXCESS FLOW SAFETY VALVE? (EFV)
The EFV is a safety mechanism contained within the gas regulator. The purpose
of the EFV is to restrict the gas supply if too much gas is flowing too
quickly through the gas hose. For example this could happen if the gas hose
was severed. It is normal that your Fire Bowl EFV trips if you open the
propane tank valve too quickly or if you leave the Fire Bowl gas knob open
before lighting, or both.

GAS REGULATOR
EXCESS FLOW VALVE
STEP 7 Once the unit is burning normally set the dial to desired flame height.

SECTION 3: PERIODIC INSPECTION OF BURNER FLAMES
Upon igniting the appliance, visually verify that the burner is indeed burning
as demonstrated in the image to the left. The presence of flames will confirm
that the burner is burning. Periodically check that the burner flame is
present during operation by visually inspecting the burner to ensure the
presence of flames.
If there are no flames present, as demonstrated in the image to the left, the appliance is likely not burning. If this is the case, IMMEDIATELY turn the appliance valve to the “off” position if it is not already and repeat the ignition procedure as outlined in Section 2.
SECTION 4: EXTINGUISHING THE APPLIANCE
STEP 1 Turn cylinder valve to the “Closed” position.
STEP 2 Turn appliance valve to the “Off” position by pushing and turning knob
clockwise.
STEP 3 Allow unit to cool for at least five (5) minutes before relighting.
WARNING:
The rocks are HOT!
WARNING:
Don’t burn yourself! Do not touch or handle the firebowl when hot! To avoid
injury always allow the firebowl to cool down for at least 30 minutes before
moving and handling the appliance. Never handle rocks which have not been
allowed to cool from exposure to flame. Never attempt to rearrange rocks while
unit is ignited.
SECTION 5: FIREBOWL MAINTENANCE
Your Outland Firebowl® requires periodic maintenance to keep it in good
running order. Follow the steps below to ensure your appliance will provide
you with the best possible performance:
1 Keep your Firebowl out of the rain and store it in a dry place.
2 This device has been engineered to provide the maximum amount of heat and
comfort. If you experience any signs of your propane cylinder `freezing off’
or start to experience lower flames than usual, please simply turn the burner
control setting to low for 510 minutes, or replace the cylinder with a full
one.
3 Ensure that you clean the bowl of your Outland Firebowl® after every use to
keep it looking GREAT. Simply wipe the outer edge of the Firebowl with a damp
paper towel or cloth to remove any combustion particulates.
4 Ensure to keep the lid on when storing your Outland Firebowl® in order to
protect it from the elements.
