Welcome to the Lucid HearingTM family! The TALATM Premium In-the-Ear OTC Hearing Aids are designed to help you hear better.
These hearing aids are suitable for users who are 18 years of age or older. If you are younger than 18 or have hearing loss, it is recommended to consult with a doctor, preferably an ear-nose-throat doctor (ENT), for specialized care.

Please note that the TALATM Premium In-the-Ear OTC Hearing Aids are not a substitute for medical testing and management. If you have any concerns about your hearing, it is important to seek professional fitting and continuing care.

Product Usage Instructions

1. If you are 18 years of age or older, you can begin using the TALATM Premium In-the-Ear OTC Hearing Aids.
2. If you experience pain or discomfort when inserting the hearing aids, remove them from your ears. Ensure that you follow the insertion instructions correctly. If the pain or discomfort persists, contact the manufacturer. If the issue continues, seek assistance from your hearing healthcare professional. You can also report any adverse events to the FDA according to the provided instructions.
3. The TALATM Premium In-the-Ear OTC Hearing Aids are not intended for use as hearing protection. If you are exposed to loud sounds, whether short or long-lasting, it is recommended to remove the hearing aids and use appropriate hearing protection. If you would use earplugs in a loud environment, remove the hearing aids and use earplugs instead.
4. If the sound output from the hearing aids becomes uncomfortably loud or painful, you should turn down the volume or remove the device. If you frequently need to adjust the volume, further adjustments may be necessary.
5. If any part of the hearing aid, such as the ear tip, gets stuck in your ear and cannot be easily removed with your fingers, seek medical help as soon as possible. Do not attempt to use tweezers or cotton swabs, as they may cause further injury to your eardrum or ear canal.
6. If you have concerns or continue to struggle with your hearing even after using the hearing aids, it is advisable to consult with a hearing healthcare professional for further assistance.
7. It is important to note that using a hearing aid will not restore normal hearing and may not completely eliminate difficulty hearing over noise. Additionally, a hearing aid will not prevent or improve a medical condition that causes hearing loss.

You should talk to a doctor, preferably an ear-nosethroat doctor (an ENT), because your condition needs specialized care. Over-the-counter hearing aids are only for users who are age 18 or older.

This OTC hearing aid is for users who are 18 and older.
People who are younger than 18 with hearing loss should see a doctor, preferably an ENT, because they may need medical testing and management. Hearing loss can affect speech and learning, so professional fitting and continuing care are also important.

WARNING: When to See a Doctor

If you have any of the problems listed below, please see a doctor, preferably an ear-nose-throat doctor (an ENT).

• Your ear has a birth defect or an unusual shape.
• Your ear was injured or deformed in an accident.
• You saw blood, puss, or fluid coming out of your ear in the past 6 months.
• Your ear feels painful or uncomfortable.
• You have a lot of ear wax, or you think something could be in your ear.
• You get really dizzy or have a feeling of spinning or swaying (called vertigo).
• Your hearing changed suddenly in the past 6 months.
• Your hearing changes: it gets worse then getsbetter again.
• You have worse hearing in one ear.
• You hear ringing or buzzing in only one ear.

WARNING: This hearing aid should not cause pain when inserting it.

Remove this device from your ear if it causes pain or discomfort when you insert or place it.
To try again, make sure to follow the instructions.
If you feel pain or discomfort again, contact the manufacturer. If your pain or discomfort doesn’t go away, contact your hearing healthcare professional.
You can also report this to FDA as an adverse event according to the instructions that appear later.

Caution: This is not hearing protection.
You should remove this device if you experience overly loud sounds, whether short or long-lasting.
If you’re in a loud place, you should use the right kind of hearing protection instead of wearing this device. In general, if you would use ear plugs in a loud place, you should remove this device and use ear plugs.

Caution: The sound output should not be uncomfortable or painful.
You should turn down the volume or remove the device if the sound output is uncomfortably loud or painful. If you consistently need to turn the volume down, you may need to further adjust your device.

Caution: You might need medical help if a piece gets stuck in your ear.
If any part of your hearing aid, like the ear tip, gets stuck in your ear, and you can’t easily remove it with your fingers, get medical help as soon as you can. You should not try to use tweezers or cotton swabs because they can push the part farther into your ear, injuring your eardrum or ear canal, possibly seriously.

Note: If you remain concerned, consult a professional.
If you try this device and continue to struggle with or remain concerned about your hearing, you should consult with a hearing healthcare professional.

Note: What you might expect when you start using a hearing aid.
A hearing aid can benefit many people with hearing loss. However, you should know it will not restore normal hearing, and you may still have some difficulty hearing over noise. Further, a hearing aidwill not prevent or improve a medical condition that causes hearing loss.

People who start using hearing aids sometimes need a few weeks to get used to them. Similarly, many people find that training or counseling can help them get more out of their devices.
If you have hearing loss in both ears, you might get more out of using hearing aids in both, especially in situations that make you tired from listening for example, noisy environments.

Note: Tell FDA about injuries, malfunctions, or other adverse events.
To report a problem involving your hearing aid, you should submit information to FDA as soon as possible after the problem. FDA calls them “adverse events,” and they might include: skin irritation in your ear, injury from the device (like cuts or scratches, or burns from an overheated battery), pieces of the device getting stuck in your ear, suddenly worsening hearing loss from using the device, etc.

Quick Start Guide

Welcome to your new Tala™ and welcome to a whole new world of hearing! These devices are designed to help you hear better and allow you to interact with the world in ways you may not have done in many years.
We wanted to give you a quick guide to getting started before getting into all the details contained herein…

1. Prepare
   Check your ears for any obstructions like ear wax and make sure your ears are dry.
   If possible, have a professional check your ears and remove any debris and wax build up.

2. Charge
   Charge your Tala™ device. Your Tala™ comes partially charged, but for the best experience you’ll need to charge it fully using the included USB-C cable. For more detailed instructions, please see page 13.

3. Choose
   Choose your ear tips. Your Tala™ comes with X ear tip options and X sizes of each ear tip: vented, fully closed, and microvented.
   You’ll want to select your ear tips depending on your hearing profile and ear size. Please refer to page 24 for further details on choosing the right ear tips.

4. Hear Better
   Select the program that works best for you, adjust the volume, and enjoy better hearing!
   Please see page 17 for further information on which of the four programs is right for you.

IMPORTANT: Place hearing aids inside the charging case to make any adjustments through the Lucid Hearing App.

Getting to Know TalaTM Charging Case

Charging Tala™

1. Charging case
   Plug the USB-C end of the charging cable into the port on the bottom of the charging case. Connect the other end of the charging cable to a power source. The charging case is fully charged when the lower four lights illuminate. (See page 14)

2. Place Tala™ in its case
   Hearing aids turn off and begin charging once placed inside the charging case. Hearing aids are fully charged when the row of 3 lights on the top are all illuminated. (~3 hours) (See page 14)

Charging Lights
There are three indicator Lights. The two outside lights indicate when the pluged-in case has charged. The center light indicates when the hearing aids have charged.

Fully depleted hearing aids require 3 to 4 hours to be fully charged

Wearing Your New Hearing Aids

When inserting your hearing aids for the first time, there can be feedback (whistling) if your hearing aids are not fully inserted. We suggest you practice inserting them with the battery door slightly open until you have perfected this process. The adjustment period of wearing hearing aids takes time, but soon you’ll be hearing clearly.

How to insert your hearing aids:

1. Grasp hearing aid between your thumb and forefinger
2. Gently push the ear tip into the ear canal

How to Adjust Volume and Programs

Volume
The easiest way to adjust your hearing aids is within the Lucid Hearing App (See page 16).

Programs
Your Tala™ hearing aids come preset with four scientifically developed acoustic programs. These programs were developed with extensive research in conjunction with a top audiology university to cover the majority of the population with mild-moderate hearing loss.

The first time you open the app you will be met with three introductory screens. Click “next” to continue to the next page.

Care and Cleaning Instructions

To ensure your hearing aids continue to work properly for years to come please note that you should avoid submerging in water, dropping from distances greater that 3 feet, or exposing to excessive heat for extended periods of time.

The most common cause of instrument failure is wax buildup and it is the easiest to avoid. By wiping your hearing aids, tubing, sound tip, ear tips and/or domes with a soft, dry cloth every day and carefully removing any traces of wax and debris, you will reduce wax buildup. Use the brush provided to enhance your cleaning by lightly brushing the sound ports. It is important to keep your hearing aids as clean as possible to maintain maximum performance and durability.

How to Clean Tala™ Hearing Aids

Replacing Wax Stop

Your Tala™ Hearing Aids have a wax stop in the tip to prevent wax from getting inside the speaker. You should check daily for any obstruction to the wax stop. If you see wax inside you can replace it using the instructions on the next page.

Warning: Improper replacement could result in the wax stop coming out of the receiver and being lodged in the ear canal.

1. Before removing the wax stop, be sure to remove the dome tip. Insert removal end of replacement tool into used wax stop, centered in hearing aid receiver. This requires a firm push.
2. Pull replacement tool straight up to remove used wax stop.
3. Remove used wax stop from replacement tool and turn tool over to direct new wax stop towards tip.
4. Insert new wax stop into tip by wriggling it in place and pressing in firmly.

Choosing the Correct Ear Tip

We have included a number of different dome tips for you to find the perfect fit. The tip should fit snuggly enough to seal the ear, while not being uncomfortably too tight. Some experimentation may be necessary. You will notice there are two types of tips included.

OPEN

Open tips provide the best experience for streaming music and phone calls and provide a full, rich sound. They provide better amplification than the vented tips and can help minimize feedback, but may require a little longer to adjust to the sound of your own voice when you first start wearing them.

VENTED

Vented tips can be more comfortable for those with mild hearing loss. They allow more of your own voice to pass through, but do not provide as rich of a sound experience when streaming audio from your phone.

Replacing the Ear Tips

1. Hold the hearing aid by the base of the speaker housing
2. Gently pull on the tip until it comes off. You may need to twist it using a back and forth motion.
3. Align the new tip with the dome facing outward.
4. Press the new tip onto the speaker housing until the wax stop is flush with the entrance to the dome tip.

Note: Improper replacement of ear tips could result in the ear tip coming off of the device and being lodged in the ear canal.
