Thank you for purchasing our PortaSlide Illuminated Slide Viewer. In just a few moments, your memories will come to light.

POWERING UP THE VIEWER

The slide viewer is powered with either 4 AA batteries or a standard 6V AC/DC adapter. (Available for purchase at www.portaslide.com/adapter.) The battery compartment is located at the bottom of the viewer. The adapter port is located on the bottom left side of the slide viewer. (Batteries and adapters are sold separately.)

Once the slide viewer is connected to a power source (either battery or adapter), firmly press and release the power button. The power button is located on the bottom right side of the slide viewer, opposite the adapter port. The light will turn on and stay on, confirming the device is powered. To turn the light off, press the power button again.

VIEWING SLIDES

  • With the light turned on, insert a slide into the slot at the back of the slide viewer. View the illuminated and magnified slide through the viewing screen.

  • To release the slide, firmly press and hold the release button. The release button is just above the power button on the right side of the slide viewer. Hold the release button down all the way until the slide has completely dropped out of the slide viewer and into the holding tray.

(Releasing the button before the slide has fully dropped out will cause the slide to get stuck.)

IMPORTANT: Be sure to use the viewer on a flat and steady surface like a table. Holding the viewer while viewing increases the likelihood of slides getting stuck. The viewer has been designed with an upward angle to allow for comfortable tabletop and hands-free viewing.

TROUBLESHOOTING: STUCK SLIDES

Not all slides were created equal. Some slides may bend or bloat with age, causing them to get stuck in the viewer. NEVER FORCE A SLIDE INTO THE VIEWER. If it won’t go in easily, it won’t come out easily. In the event that a slide does get stuck, try pumping the release button a few times until the slide falls out. If the slide remains stuck, gently shake the device while still holding the button down.

VIEWING ROLLS OF FILM NEGATIVES

With the light turned on, take a film strip and gently feed it into the film entrance on the right side of the slide viewer (next to the slide release button). The film should exit out of the film exit on the opposite side of the slide viewer. Move the film left or right as desired.

CLEANING AND STORAGE

To clean the viewing lens, use the soft dry cotton cloth, included, or a microfiber cleaning cloth. WARNING: If you don’t plan on using the slide viewer for a while, remove the batteries from the battery compartment and store the viewer in a cool dry place.
