Product Description
MELPOMENE is a high power, highly efficient spotlight using DE SISTI modular PCB boards system with a total of 640 LEDs combined with 160 Narrow Spot lenses. The Lighting Fixture is DMX Controlled and includes a number of parameters that can be set locally. It is equipped with DSE 500, a detachable power supply for AC universal feed 90/240V 50/60Hz that can be remoted up to 50m and features variable CCT from Tungsten to Daylight with high power and high CRI.
Power and DMX Daisy Chain
The MELPOMENE lighting fixture permits both POWER and DMX DAISY
CHAIN. Each fixture is respectively equipped with:
- DMX: XLR5 pin Panel Mount Male (DMX IN) and XLR5 pin Panel Mount Female (DMX OUT)
- Mains Supply: 1 20A Powercon TRUE 1 TOP (POWER IN) and 1 20A Powercon TRUE 1 TOP (POWER OUT)
It is recommended to daisy chain a maximum of 10 fixtures, even though the limitations imposed by DMX Standards are for a higher quantity of units and even if the Powercon Connections are rated for 20A max.

Congratulations on your purchase of MELPOMENE Vari White lighting fixture.
MELPOMENE is a high power, highly efficient spotlight using DE SISTI modular
PCB boards system with a total of 640 LEDs combined with 160 Narrow Spot
lenses. The Lighting Fixture is DMX Controlled and includes a number of
parameters that can be set locally, it is equipped with DSE 500 a detachable

In case the colors of the cores do not correspond to the colors of the connection points on your plug, please proceed as follows:
- The green or green and yellow core must be connected to the connection point marked with the letter E or with the symbol or colored in green or in green – yellow;
- The blue (or white) core must be connected to the connection point marked with the letter N or colored in black;
- The brown (or black) core must be connected to the connection point marked with the letter L or colored in red.

The luminaire should never be OPERATED close to inflammable materials. The ones indicated in the above table are the minimum distances recommended. Other requirements for safe use are:
- A. Do not cover the apertures of the detachable driver housing. They are essential for correct ventilation
- B. Use only original accessories and spares from De Sisti Lighting.
- C. Before hanging the luminaire ensure that the suspension point (or the stand) is properly rated to accept the luminaire weight.
- D. A suitable secondary safety suspension device (safety cable, chain or equivalent) must be fitted between the suspension point and the eyelet at the front of the body.
WARNING
- DO NOT MOUNT THE LUMINAIRE ON A NORMALLY FLAMMABLE SURFACE.
- USE OF SANDBAGS AND TIE-ROD/PUSH-ROD IS MANDATORY (EXTERNAL USE).
- EXPOSED DATA ARE INTENDED WITH A COSTANT WIND FLOW. PLEASE CONSIDER SUDDEN GUSTS OF WIND AND USE FURTHER PRECAUTIONS.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
The following procedure should be adopted:
Before connecting the luminaire to the electrical mains ensure that:
-
A. Earth line is present on the power socket.
-
B. The mains voltage is within the rated range of the luminaire (see technical data on the rating label)
-
C. The front safety shield is present and in good condition. It consists of a Fresnel lens made by borosilicate un-toughened glass, with a Diameter = 150 mm , thickness = 5 mm type (3 min)
WARNINGS- Do not operate the product if the ambient temperature exceeds 40° C
- Provide a minimum clearance of 0,1m (4 in.) around driver fans and head heatsink.
- Shields, lenses safety or dichroic glasses shall be changed if they have become visibly damaged to such an extent that their effectiveness is impaired, for example by cracks or deep scratches.
- The luminaire shall only be used complete with its protective shield

D. Applying power: never connect to dimmer power. Install a power plug on the power cable using the following pin assignment:
- Neutral
- Live Green/Yellow : Ground – This fixture must be connected to ground.
Make sure the local power voltage is within the range specified. If so; connect the power cable and turn the power on.

E. Stand Alone operation:
Using the navigation buttons and display readout ( refer to the “Local Menu” chapter )navigate to Manual and set the desired intensity (for additional operations see “Local Menu” chapter)
DMX operation:
Connect DMX cable.
Navigate to Address mode (Addr) and set the desired address, (refer to the
“Local Menu” chapter). Connect to DMX controller (refer to the “Channel
Setting” in the “Local Menu” chapter) and Use it.
IMPORTANT: Utilize only the safety PIN provided with the unit!
LOCAL MENU
THE MUSES OF LIGHT – MELPOMENE has a GRAPHIC DISPLAY backlit, with a local knob, having a push/click function in addition to the rotation, and 7 control buttons:
Display
It is a Graphic, backlit LCD Display. It contains all the relevant information
for the product setup and performances, such as CCT, DMX Address, DMX Level,
LED Temperature and local dimming. When the local knobs are not used for more
than 10 seconds the display back illumination will go OFF and the display
itself will go in STAND BY Mode. It will go ON again anytime the KNOB is
activated or a button is pushed.
Knob
It allow to regulate both DIMMING and CCT Variation. Pushing it the display
will switch from DIMMING to CCT CONTROL By rotating it clockwise the DIMMING
increase from 0% to 100% while the CCT Changes from 2.750°K up to 6.900 °K.
Knob recognizes the speed rotation so to increase the operation speed
accordingly.
Button 1
It is the MENU button. When pushed it will allow to enter into the device
MENU. If pushed from inside a MENU Voice will exit from that. If pressed into
the menu will exit to the info menu and when pushed again come back to Home
display.
Button 2
It is the SWITCH MODE button and MENU CONFIRMATION. If pushed from the Home
Display it will switch from latest DMX values memory to Manual DIMMING and
manual CCT. If pushed from inside a MENU Voice will CONFIRM THE SELECTION.
Button 3
It is the RF (LUMENRADIO) MODE ON/OFF button and MENU UP AR-ROW. With a LONG
PRESS (3sec) from the Home Display it will TURNS ON/OFF the W-DMX LUMENRADIO
MODULE. If pushed from inside THE MENU AND MENU VOICE will work as UP ARROW.
Button 4
It is the RF (LUMENRADIO) UNLINK button and MENU DOWN ARROW. With a LONG
PRESS (3sec) from the Home Display it will UNLINK the W-DMX LUMENRADIO MODULE
from the SENDER. If pushed from inside THE MENU AND MENU VOICE will work as
DOWN ARROW.
Button SET 1
When in Storaro Mode it will set the CCT to 5600K. In De Sisti mode with long
press it will memorize the cur-rent DIMMING and CCT values in SET 1 and once
pushed it will recall the setting.
Button SET 2
When in Storaro Mode it will set the CCT to 4300K. In De Sisti mode with long
press it will memorize the current DIMMING and CCT values in SET 2 and once
pushed it will recall the setting.
Button SET 3
When in Storaro Mode it will set the CCT to 3200K. In De Sisti mode with long
press it will memorize the cur-rent DIMMING and CCT values in SET 3 and once
pushed it will recall it.
Micro USB Port
Connected to a Windows PC with the proper De Sisti software installed it will
allow Firmware upgrades once released.
The following are the BASIC FUNCTIONS and COMMANDS that are provided on the LOCAL MENU of the LED DEVICE. The unit is provided with a USER MENU accessible instantly on the product.
Basic functions:
Menu and settings
Enter, Navigate and Exit the Menu
DMX CHART
The unit occupies 2 channels in 8bit mode an 3 channels in 16bit mode.

To enter the Menu push the Button 1 then push the Button 2 to activate the navigation.

To mov e into the menu voices push Button 3 and 4 as Up & Down.
-
To enter a Menu Voice push the Button 2 and then move into the settings with But-tons 3 and 4.
-
To confirm the desired setting push the Button 2.
-
To cancel and not save the setting into the menu voice push Button 1.
-
To exit the Menu push button 1, at first press the unit it will show an Info Screen showing FW version, Fan speed and LED and Driver(s ) temperature.
Change DMX address
To change the unit DMX address navigate into the menu until you reach the
voice “DMX Address”
Push Button 2 to enter the menu voice and Button 3 and 4 to reach the desired
address. To confirm push button 2.
Activate Storaro mode or De Sisti mode

To change the unit Mode navigate into the menu until you reach the voice “Mode Sel.”

Push Button 2 to enter the menu voice and Button 3 and 4 to select the desired mode.

To confirm push button 2.
Storaro Mode:
In this mode you can work as the Master prefers to work on the set. DMX
channels will be only for dimming while CCT tuning it will be al-lowed only
manually on the driver.
The 3 “SET” buttons will be activated with 3 preset color temperatures:

SET 1: 5600K
-
SET 2: 4300K
-
SET 3: 3200K
De Sisti Mode:
In this mode the unit will work with Dimming and CCT active on DMX. The 3 set
buttons will allow to save a dimming and CCT configuration to recall it later.
Backlight
To change the display backlight settings navigate into the menu until you
reach the voice “Back-light”
Push Button 2 to enter the menu voice and Button 3 and 4 to reach the desired value. To confirm push button 2.

Backlight=On:
The display light will be al-ways ON -
Backlight= Off:
The display light will switch OFF after 10 seconds without any user command.
Change the DMX Dimming resolution
To change the DMX dimming from 8bit to 16 bit navigate into the menu until you reach the voice “DMX Bit”.
Push Button 2 to enter the menu voice and Button 3 and 4 to reach the desired value. To confirm push button 2.
Change the Dimming Curve
To change the Dimming Curve between HR Dim (over 40.000 dimming points, super smooth) and Linear, navigate into the menu until you reach the voice “Dim Curve”.
Push Button 2 to enter the menu voice and Button 3 and 4 to reach the desired value. To confirm push button 2.
Change the Dimming Speed
To change the Dimming Speed to change the device reaction while dimming with the possibility to choose between Fast and Slow (factory setting: slow) reaction, navigate into the menu until you reach the voice “Dim Speed”.
Push Button 2 to enter the menu voice and Button 3 and 4 to reach the desired value. To con-firm push button 2.
Activate Bridge Mode
To activate the Bridge Mode, navigate into the menu until you reach the
voice “Bridge Mode”.
Push Button 2 to enter the menu voice and Button 3 and 4 to reach the desired value. To confirm push button 2.
Bridge Mode allow to utilize the unit to spread to other devices the DMX signal received with the wireless module through the DMX OUT cable plus.
Activate the wireless DMX module
To switch on or off the Wire-less Module, navigate into the menu until you
reach the voice “Wireless”.
(The module can be activated also from the Main screen: look at the following
related section).
Push Button 2 to enter the menu voice and Button 3 and 4 to reach the desired value. To confirm push button 2.
Local Manual Mode
When no Wired (WR DMX in the unit display) or Wireless connection (RF DMX in the unit display) is active the unit can be controlled in Manual mode.
Dimming
To set the dimming value rotate the encoder knob until you reach the desired dimming level.
If the display is showing the CCT value you’ll need to push the Knob to switch to the dimming (the display will write “Man. Dimming” and will show a percentage value).
CCT Tuning from 2700°K to 6500°K
To set the dimming value rotate the encoder knob until you reach the desired CCT level.
If the display is showing the Dimming value you’ll need to push the Knob to switch to the dimming (the display will write “Man. CCT” and will show a percentage value).
Switch from Manual to DMX Mode (If no connection is present the unit will recall the latest DMX setting)
To switch from latest DMX value to Manual settings push the Button 2 .
Turn on RF Module (Wireless DMX)
To turn on the RF Module to connect to a Wireless DMX Sender keep pushed
the Button 3 for 3 seconds.
The RF ON Green LED indicator will turn on and after few seconds also the LINK
LED indicator will turn on.
The unit will automatically pair with the nearest sender active.
PLEASE NOTE: the RF module must be unpaired from the previous sender once need to change the DMX sender device.
Unpairing the RF Module (Wireless DMX)
To unpair the RF Module from the previous connected Wireless DMX Sender
keep pushed the Button 4 for 3 seconds.
The LINK Green LED indicator will turn off.
After this pushing the pairing but-ton from a sender the unit will automatically reconnect to a new DMX sender.
Recall preset CCTs in Storaro mode or save and recall customized CCT and
dimming in De Sisti mode
When the unit is in “Storaro mode” pushing the button SET 1, SET2 and SET 3
will recall 3 preset color temperatures:

SET 1: 5600K
-
SET 2: 4300K
-
SET 3: 3200K
The user then will be allowed to tune the CCT from the “preset value” and the
related indicator LED will turn off once the CCT value will change from the
preset.
Important: In Storaro mode the CCT can be changed only manually, no DMX
channel is activated for CCT tuning.
When in “De Sisti mode” the same buttons can be used to save the current dimming and CCT level to recall it later. To save the desired values push the related SET 1, SET 2 or SET 3 button for 3 seconds. To recall it simply push the related button.
FIRMWARE UPGRADE
To upgrade the Firmware connect the unit MICRO USB port to a Microsoft Windows PC with the De Sisti upgrade soft-ware installed.
To install the software:
Unpack the ZIP file provided by your local reseller or the De Sisti website.
You will unpack:
- DRIVER USB
- BOOTLOADER
Install the USB drivers entering the proper folder and launching the .exe inside it.
Then enter the BOOT-LOADER folder and launch the exe Bootloader De Sisti Vx.x.
Then follow these STEPS:

With unit connected through USB push Find Device.

The software will show the USB connected COM Port.

Push “Connect CPU”.
-
The unit and the display will enter into boot mode.

Push “Load Hex file.
-
Enter the folder where you have previously saved the CPU Firmware file and open it. WARNING: The file name MUST Start with “CPU_xxxxx”.

Software will show the log “Hex file loaded successfully.
-
Push the button “Erase-Program-Verify.
-
Software will start to erase the old firmware and upload the new one, then will check the FW integrity.
-
Once done push Run Application.
-
The software will disconnect the unit that will turn to operative mode with the new FW installed.
IMPORTANT: Don’t push the But-tons “Connect DRV1 DRV2 DRV3 and DRV4”. These are needed when De Sisti releases also new DRV FWs for massive changes. The procedure to upload the FW is the same than the CPU one but, as it’s possible to DAMAGE the unit DRIVER it must be done by or with the support of a qualified DE SISTI assistant person.
DIMENSIONS
PERIODIC INSPECTION & MAINTENANCE
This product requires very little routine maintenance, if any, but has special cleaning instructions: Disconnect fixture from power and allow it to cool for 10 min.
- Vacuum or gently blow away any dust from fan blades and grills.
- Very gently clean the LED with Isopropyl alcohol.
- Clean the lenses with a soft damp cloth.
- Check the condition of the safety shield (see chapter: Installation Instructions) before every use.
- Check Power supply cable and DMX control cable proper conditions.
