REMOVING OLD PROP
To begin, place the drive unit on a stable work surface at a comfortable working height. NOTICE : The prop can be changed while the drive is in the boat and/or while on the water but extra care must be taken to avoid dropping parts or tools through the console opening of the hull. -
Use 9/16” wrench to loosen and remove the 3/8 x 24 nyloc nut on the prop shaft.
Remove nut and washer and place both in a secure location. -
Remove prop by turning it parallel with the drive’s main shaft, grasping the blades with each hand, and pushing off the prop shaft with both thumbs.
This process will pop the prop off of the prop pin in the prop shaft. -
Remove the prop pin from the prop shaft.
If the prop pin is showing any signs of corrosion, clean and lube it before returning to the prop shaft. If the pin is stuck in the shaft, remove using a hammer and a punch. -
Inspect the area for early warning signs of potential problems. NOTICE : Carefully remove any fishing lines or weeds around the prop shaft. Carefully check the seals around the prop shaft.
-
REASSEMBLY OF NEW PROP
Reassemble, replacing any damaged parts as you go.
Note that the prop pin will always be perpendicular to the long axis of the propeller. -
Before putting nyloc nut on the shaft, lightly spread anti-seize compound on the prop shaft threads. This compound will help prevent small slivers from jamming in the threads that prevent motion in either direction.
-
Tighten the nyloc nut until the prop shaft is even with the top of the nyloc nut. NOTICE : Over tightening the nyloc nut will start to bend the prop pin and cause the prop hub to rub on the drive’s lower case.
