NCX-5 Transceiver

Product Information:

The product being referred to is the NCX-5 MK II transceiver.
The user manual mentions several changes that have been made to the
schematic and components of the transceiver. These changes have
been incorporated in all NCX-5 MK II transceivers, but are not
recorded on the schematic.

Some of the changes mentioned in the user manual include:

  1. Trimmer CS has been shown incorrectly between pin 9 of V4A and
ground. It should be shown between pin 7 (plate) of V4A and
    ground.

  2. The VFO and BUFFER transistors have been changed. The new VFO
transistor is an RCA 40245 and the BUFFER transistor has been
    changed to a 2N2672 (Amperex).

  3. The type numbers of diodes D14, D15, D16, and D17 are not
called out on the schematic. They are all type 1N541 diodes and
should be ordered as matched pairs with the order number
    1N542.

  4. Capacitor C222, located in the grid circuit of tube V10, is
printed incorrectly and should be changed to read C212.

  5. Capacitor C221 should be shown as a 0.33 uF, 400 V capacitor
    instead of 0.47 uF.

  6. The value of Capacitor C48 in the ALC DETECTOR circuit is shown
incorrectly. Its value should be 0.15 μF.

  7. Resistor R137, 1K, in the grid circuit of V15 is not present
and should be removed from the schematic.

  8. The Carrier Balance circuit has been changed.

  9. Resistor R15S, 22K in the grid circuit of V10 has been changed
    to a 220K resistor.

Product Usage Instructions:

When using the NCX-5 MK II transceiver, please follow the
instructions provided in the user manual. Additionally, take note
of the following changes and corrections:

  1. Ensure that Trimmer CS is shown correctly between pin 7 (plate)
    of V4A and ground.

  2. Be aware that the VFO transistor has been changed to an RCA
40245 and the BUFFER transistor has been changed to a 2N2672
    (Amperex).

  3. When ordering diodes D14, D15, D16, and D17, make sure to order
them as matched pairs with the order number 1N542.

  4. Replace Capacitor C222 in the grid circuit of tube V10 with
    C212.

  5. Replace Capacitor C221 with a 0.33 uF, 400 V capacitor.

  6. Ensure that Capacitor C48 in the ALC DETECTOR circuit has a
    value of 0.15 μF.

  7. Remove Resistor R137, 1K, from the grid circuit of V15.

  8. Take note of the changes made to the Carrier Balance
    circuit.

  9. Replace Resistor R15S, 22K, in the grid circuit of V10 with a
    220K resistor.

Please refer to the figures provided in the user manual for a
visual representation of the changes mentioned above.

ADD~NDA TO THE NCX-5 MK II MANUAL AND SCHEMATIC
A. The following changes affect the schematic only. These changes have been incorporated in all NCX-5 MK II transceivers, but not recorded on the schematic.
1. Trimmer CS, was shown incorrectly between pin 9 of V4A and ground. It should be shown between pin 7 (plate) of V4A and ground as seenzyxwvutsrqpo
in figure #1.
2. Resistor R74, 47K ± 10% 1/2 watt between pin 9 of V4A and ground
