KOAMTAC KDC480 Series SmartSled Barcode Scanner
Product Information
The product is the KDC480 or KDC485, a handheld barcode scanner device. It comes with a Type-C USB cable, a hand strap or tablet strap, a quick manual, and a KOAMTACON guide. The KDC480 models and KDC485 models are two variations of the product.
There are also additional accessories available for the product, including SmartSled cases for Apple and Android, SmartSled custom cases, OTG general universal & uniVERSE case adaptors, 1-slot and 4-slot charging cradles, 1100mAh hardpack battery, HF RFID companion, 0.5W UHF companion, 1.0W UHF companion, mPOS & MSRIC companion, and a pistol grip companion. There is also a 2000mAh extended battery available.
Powering On/Off
To power on or off the device, press both the SCAN and DOWN buttons
simultaneously for 3 seconds. The KDC will beep when it is turned on or off.
When it is ready to use, it will emit a long beep sound.
Basic Operation
To scan a barcode using the KDC, follow these steps:
- Aim the KDC directly at the barcode.
- Press either of the SCAN buttons located on each side of the device.
- Ensure that the beam covers the barcode horizontally.
If the scan is successful, you will hear 1 beep and see a green LED. If it is unsuccessful, you will hear 2 beeps and see a red LED. Note that the SmartSled case is sold separately.
Pairing & Connecting
To pair and connect the KDC with a host device, follow these steps:
- Navigate to the Bluetooth settings on the host PC, Mac, Smartphone, or Tablet.
- Enable Bluetooth on the host device and make sure it is searching for devices.
- Using the KDC, scan the pairing barcode that corresponds to your desired Bluetooth profile. If there is no barcode scanner on the KDC, hold any SCAN button for 5 seconds to begin pairing via USB cable.
- Check the list of available Bluetooth devices on your host device.
- Select the KDC listed by serial number in brackets that match the serial number found on the back of the KDC.
- In HID mode, the KDC is now ready to use. For SPP mode, launch KTSync or your application and select the KDC to complete the connection.
The KDC will beep when successfully connected. These pairing instructions apply to all KDC480 and KDC485 models.
Using Keyboard Wedge
If you want to use the KDC as a keyboard, follow these steps:
- Ensure that the KDC is connected to the host using the HID profile or via the KTSync keyboard using the SPP profile.
- Open any application on the host device that contains a text field you want to populate.
- Tap the text field in the application.
- Scan any barcode with the KDC.
- The barcode data will populate in the text field.
To enable the KTSync keyboard, refer to the KDC Reference Manual for detailed instructions.

Basic Operation
- Aim the KDC directly at the barcode and press either of the SCAN buttons located on each side of the device ensuring the beam covers the barcode horizontally.
- A successful scan will sound 1 beep and show a green LED. An unsuccessful scan will sound 2 beeps and show a red LED.
Bluetooth Profiles Explained
- Allows one-way Bluetooth communication with an Android or iOS host device. The KDC only transmits data to the host device.
- Allows two-way Bluetooth communication. The KDC transmits data to the host device and the host can transmit data back to the KDC.
- Allows one-way Bluetooth communication with a Windows PC. The KDC only transmits data to the Windows PC.
HID inputs data directly into an application. SPP requires the KOAMTAC KTSync® app or integration of the KOAMTAC SDK to input data into an application.
Pairing & Connecting
- Navigate to the Bluetooth setting on the host PC, Mac, Smartphone, or Tablet.
- Ensure that Bluetooth is enabled on the host device and searching for devices.
- Using the KDC, scan the pairing barcode that corresponds to your desired Bluetooth profile. If you are unsure which Bluetooth profile is right for you, please refer to the previous panel.
- 3a. If KDC does not have a barcode scanner, hold any SCAN button on the KDC for 5 seconds until you hear a beep to begin pairing (Select Bluetooth Profiles from KTSync Windows using a USB cable).
- Check the list of available Bluetooth devices on your host device.
- From the list, select the KDC listed by serial number in brackets that match the serial number found on the back side of the KDC.
- In HID mode, the KDC is now ready to use.
- To complete the connection in SPP mode, launch KTSync or your application and select the KDC.
The KDC will beep when successfully connected.
Pairing Barcodes
Using Keyboard Wedge
Keyboard wedge allows you to use your KDC as a keyboard. The HID profile works as a keyboard wedge by default. When using SPP, KTSync provides a keyboard wedge function when the KTSync keyboard is enabled. Please refer to the KDC Reference Manual for detailed instructions to enable the KTSync keyboard.
- Ensure that the KDC is connected to the host using the HID profile or that the KDC is connected via the KTSync keyboard using the SPP profile.
- Open any application on the host device that contains a text field you want to populate.
- Tap the text field in the application.
- Scan any barcode with the KDC.
- The barcode data will then populate in the text field.
KTSync & SDK
KTSync® is a program that communicates with the KDC via Bluetooth. It enables users to read and store data. KTSync is compatible with iOS, Android, Windows, and Mac. It also supports wedging and downloading data from the KDC.
