Product Usage Instructions

1. To install the MARS 83915 AC Disconnect Surge Kit with the surge protective device, follow the installation notes for the 83915 AC Disconnect Closure.
2. Temporarily remove the Surge Protection Device Module to access the mounting holes. After mounting the AC disconnect, carefully return the SPD back to its original position. Ensure wires from SPD are securely fastened to the appropriate terminal lugs as noted in Figure 1.
3. When power is restored, verify that the green LED is ON.
4. Periodically check LED status lights to confirm that the unit is functioning properly.
5. Apply the LED status label onto the closure, directly above the LED status lights.
6. To connect the MARS 83910 Surge Protective Device module in the AC Disconnect Closure, follow the installation instructions:
   • Turn off the circuit breaker to the AC disconnect closure where the protector is to be installed and verify that power is off with an appropriate meter.
   • Open the cover of the AC disconnect and install the SPD as shown in the illustration (Figure 1).
   • Connect the two black wires as shown in the illustration.
   • Connect the green wire to the ground buss bar as shown in the illustration.
   • Ensure all wiring is correct and securely fastened.
   • Remove the retaining locknut/washer from the LED indicator pod.
   • Apply the LED Status label onto the closure directly above the LED status lights.
   • Securely close the cover of the AC Disconnect closure.
   • Restore power and verify that the green LED is ON.
   • Periodically check LED status lights to confirm that the unit is functioning properly.

Note: For best performance, ensure that the conductor length is as short as possible. Hard 90-degree bends may reduce effectiveness.

WARNING

• Installation and Service to be performed by a Qualified Licensed Electrician.
• Intended for outdoor/indoor use.
• All wiring must comply with all state and local electrical codes including the National Electrical Code and/or Canadian Electrical Code.
• This unit contains no serviceable parts.
• Attention: Aucune piece remplacable ou reparable.
• This product does not protect against direct lightning strikes.
• The MARS 83910 Surge Protective Device is for use with the MARS 83915 AC Disconnect Closure only.
• Suitable for use on a circuit capable of delivering not more than 10,000 rms amperes 120 volts per line.

The MARS 83915 AC Disconnect Surge Kit is supplied with the MARS Internal Surge Protective Device in the disconnect box.
To complete the installation of 83915 with the surge protective device installed, follow the installation notes for the 83915 AC Disconnect Closure along with the following notes and instructions.

1. You may temporarily remove the Surge Protection Device Module to gain access to the mounting holes. After mounting AC disconnect carefully return the SPD back to its original position. Referring to Figure 1, ensure wires from SPD are securely fastened to the appropriate terminal lugs as noted.
2. When power is restored verify green LED is “ON”.
3. Periodically check LED status lights confirming unit is functioning properly.
4. Apply the LED status label onto the closure, directly above the LED status lights.

To connect the MARS 83910 Surge Protective Device module in the AC Disconnect Closure, refer to Figure 1 and follow the installation instructions below.

1. Turn off the circuit breaker to the AC disconnect closure the protector is to be installed and verify power is off with the appropriate meter.
2. Open the cover of the AC disconnect and install the SPD as shown below.
3. Connect the two black wires as shown in the illustration.
4. Connect the green wire to the ground bus bar as shown in the illustration.
5. Ensure all wiring is correct and securely fastened.
6. Remove the ½” knockout hole for the LED indicator pod, from the AC disconnect closure
7. Remove the retaining locknut/washer from the LED indicator pod.
8. Install the LED indicator pod into the ½” knockout hole. Secure the LED indicator pod using the appropriate hardware.
9. Apply LED Status label onto the closure directly above the LED status lights.
10. Securely close the cover of AC Disconnect closure.
11. Restore power and verify green LED is “ON”.
12.  Periodically check LED status lights confirming unit is functioning properly.

Installation tips: For best performance ensure conductor length is as short as possible. Hard 90-degree bends will reduce effectiveness.
