SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

THIS APPLIANCE IS FOR HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY.

WARNING: When using electrical appliances especially when children are present, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shocked/or injury to persons, including the following:

  1. This appliance should be used only by persons who are capable of understanding the user manual or are supervised by those who have adequate understanding of the appliance’s features, its use and operating instructions. Children must be supervised and should not be left alone with appliances during their operation.

  2. Place this appliance on a flat, steady, heat resistant surface. Make sure not to place near or on a heat source, such as a gas or electric burner, stove or oven.

  3. Do not use this appliance near an open flame or flammable materials.

  4. Appliances can emit heat or steam when in use; therefore, care should be taken to not block inlets or outlets.

  5. Short power cords are attached to this item to prevent entanglement and tripping hazards. Extension cords with corresponding voltage, electrical rating and grounding wires can be used. Care should be taken so that any exposed cord is not hanging down from a counter or table where it can be pulled on or tripped over by any child or adult.

  6. Never use any accessories or parts from other manufacturers. Your warranty will become invalid if such accessories or parts have been used.

  7. Check that your home power supply corresponds with this appliance’s intended voltage.

  8. Before using this appliance, inspect the plug and cord line for cuts and/or abrasion marks. If they are found, do not use this appliance and contact Chefman Customer Service.

  9. Insert the plug by grasping it firmly and guiding it into your home’s grounded electric outlet. Disconnect by grasping the plug and removing it from your home’s grounded electric outlet.

  10. Examine the gasket to make sure it is without tears or damages. Only use the gasket designed for this particular appliance.\ Should you notice that the gasket has any damage, please contact Chefman Customer Service.

  11. Before using this appliance, please read the caution sticker attached to the lid of the Multi Cooker. Review how to lock and unlock the lid, and always check the pressure regulator knob to make sure it is in the correct position (“Sealing” or “Venting.”)

  12. Always check the pressure regulator knob for clogging or obstruction; clean if necessary by removing and using a sponge and warm, soapy water.

  13. Permanent damage may occur if the appliance is operated without food or liquid. NEVER operate the unit without food or liquid present in the cooking pot.

  14. Do not use the appliance for frying. Oil can be used within the Sauté function, which is used with the lid open — this is a quick, light fry method.

  15. When pressure cooking, do not fill the cooking pot more than 2/3. When pressure cooking foods that expand and foam up, do not fill the cooking pot more than 1/2

  16. Do not leave uncooked ingredients in this pot for more than a short period of time. Raw meat, poultry, fish, fruits or vegetables can spoil.

  17. It is necessary to lock the lid of this appliance for safe pressure cooking. Once the
    lid is locked and the process has begun, do not attempt to open the lid.

  18. Do not move appliances that are full of food or liquid whether hot or cold.

  19. During initial use, you may notice some smoke and/or a slight odor. This is normal and should quickly dissipate. It should not reoccur after the appliance has been used a few more times.

  20. Do not move the Multi Cooker while it is in use. Doing so may cause steam to splatter out of the lid, which can potentially cause burns.

  21. Appliance exteriors are designed to be cool to the touch. Portions do get HOT during use. Burns can result from touching heating elements, air vents and removable containers. If any part is designed to be handled, do so with care.

  22. Do not force the lid open once locked. Should you need to open the lid, cancel the function with the CANCEL button. Then, turn the pressure regulator knob  to “Venting” to release all steam. Once the floating valve drops, the lid may safely be opened.

  23. Never place your hands, arms or face over the pressure release valve once this appliance has started to function.

  24. Unplug unit when you are done cooking.

  25. Before cleaning, make sure that the Multi Cooker is turned OFF, unplugged, all
    pressure has been released and it has been cooled to room temperature.

  26. Do not clean the Multi Cooker until it is cool.

  27. Do not immerse Multi Cooker in water or a dishwasher for cleaning.

  28. Clean with a non-abrasive cleaner, soft pad or cloth.

  29. Never wrap the cord tightly around the appliance during use or storage as this can cause the wire to fray and break.

  30. Store unit in a cool, dry location.

  31. In case of any electrical emergency, such as a fire, call 911.

SHORT CORD INSTRUCTIONS

A short power supply cord is provided to reduce the hazards resulting from entanglement or tripping over a longer cord. Longer detachable power-supply cords or extension cords are available and may be used if care is exercised in their use. If longer detachable power-supply extension cord is used:

  1. The marked electrical rating of the cord set or extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance, and:
  2. The cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the countertop or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over unintentionally.
POWER CORD SAFETY TIPS
  1. Never pull or yank on cord or the appliance.
  2. To insert plug, grasp it firmly and guide it into outlet.
  3. To disconnect appliance, grasp plug and remove it from outlet.
  4. Before each use, inspect the power cord for cuts and/or abrasion marks. If any are found, this indicates that the appliance should be serviced and the power cord replaced. Please contact Chefman Customer Service.
  5. Never wrap the cord tightly around the appliance, as this could place undue stress on the cord where it enters the appliance and cause it to fray and break.

DO NOT OPERATE APPLIANCE IF THE LINE CORD SHOWS ANY DAMAGE OR IF APPLIANCE WORKS INTERMITTENTLY OR STOPS WORKING ENTIRELY.

Control Panel And Functions

Poultry: Uses pressure to cook boneless and bone-in poultry to tender or very tender texture. Do not fill cooking pot more than 2/3.
Meat/Stew : Uses pressure to cook boneless and bone-in meat to tender or very tender texture.
Melds and develops deep stew flavors. Do not fill cooking pot more than 2/3.
Beans/Chili : Uses pressure to cook beans until they are soft or very soft — as if they were
simmering for hours — while still retaining their shape. Melds and develops deep chili flavors. Do not fill cooking pot more than 1/2.
Soup/Broth : Uses pressure to simmer soups and broths to achieve the deepest flavors in a short amount of time. Do not fill cooking pot more than 2/3.
Rice : Uses pressure to cook rice to your desired doneness: just cooked, tender and very tender. Combine white rice with equal parts water. Do not fill cooking pot more than 1/2.
Multigrain : Uses pressure to cook a variety of grain sizes, from quinoa to wheat berries. Typically combine grains with 1 ½ times the amount of water. Do not fill cooking pot more than 1/2.
Porridge : Uses pressure to make a variety of porridges, from simple rolled oats to mixed varieties and steel cut oats. Combine oats and other grains with 1 ½ times the amount of water or other liquids such as milk or almond milk. Combine steel cut oats with 2 ¼ times the amount of water. Do not fill cooking pot more than 1/2.
Pressure Cook : Use as a manual pressure cooking function. Select desired pressure level and time based on your preference and past cooking experience.
Slow Cook : Functions like your typical slow cooker. May be programmed to cook at a preset low temperature for up to 20 hours.
Sauté : Use WITHOUT the lid to soften and caramelize vegetables. May also be used to brown foodsbefore pressure cooking or slow cooking, or to cook quick-cooking foods like shrimp.
Steam : Gentle pressure cooking; ideal for very delicate foods like vegetables, fish and custard based desserts. Requires steam rack and water.
Egg : Uses pressure to cook eggs to soft-, medium- or hard-boiled consistency. Simply place eggs in cooking pot with 1 cup water. Use steam rack, if desired.
Cake : Uses pressure to cook moist cakes and cheesecake. Use with steam rack and small, separate cake pan.
Yogurt : Boils milk to pasteurize it and then allows it to ferment with a yogurt starter in a temperature-controlled environment.
-, Hours/Minutes, + Buttons : Use to adjust cooking time. Press – to decrease time and + to increase time. Press Hours/Minutes to toggle between hours value and minutes value.
Sterilize : Uses pressure to sterilize various items such as cutlery. Add 1 cup water to the cooking pot, insert steam rack and place items on rack.
Pressure Level: Use to change pressure level from High to Low or vice versa.
Delay : May be used to delay the cooking start time up to 24 hours. Use this feature to perfectly time just-cooked meals. Does not apply to Sauté, Yogurt or Sterilize.
Start : Press the START button after selecting a function.
Keep Warm : Multi Cooker automatically switches to Keep Warm when any of the programs finish, except Sauté, Yogurt and Sterilize. Heater remains on—at a lower temperature than the other functions—for up to 99 hours and 50 seconds to keep foods at a food-safe temperature for serving.
Cance l: Press the CANCEL button to cancel a selected function or reset Multi Cooker at any time.

Operating Instructions BEFORE FIRST USE

Remove all packing materials and stickers from the inside and outside of the Multi Cooker.
Gently wipe down exterior with a damp cloth or paper towel. Never immerse the Multi Cooker, its base, cord or plug in water or any other liquid.
Wash all removable parts, except for the power cord and plug, with a sponge and warm, soapy water. Do not use abrasive cleaning agents or scouring pads. Dry all parts thoroughly.
Read all instructions and follow them carefully.
NOTE: Always remember to secure the gasket before securing the lid.

REMOVING AND SECURING THE GASKET

To remove the gasket

  1. Turn lid upside down.
  2. Pull gasket away from the metal ring until it is fully removed

To secure the gasket

  1. Turn lid upside down and place the inside of the gasket onto the gasket holder. It should be positioned between the gasket holder and the inner edge of the lid.
  2. Continue pushing the gasket onto the gasket holder while rotating the lid. It is fully secured when all parts of the gasket holder sit flush within the inside of the gasket.

SETTING UP THE MULTI COOKER

  1. Plug the base of the power cord into the power cord port.
  2. Plug the power cord into the wall. The Multi Cooker will beep once and the word “OFF” will illuminate on the screen.
  3. Ensure that the condensation cup is in place on the back of the Multi Cooker.
  4. Put your cooking pot into the Multi Cooker.
  5. Put your ingredients into the cooking pot.
  6. Select and start a function using the detailed instructions on pages 13 to 26.

SECURING THE LID

  1. Make sure the gasket, on the inside of your lid, is fully secured. (Read “Removing and Securing the Gasket” above.)
  2. Place your lid onto the Multi Cooker. Line up the arrow on the top of the lid with the arrow located next to the unlock symbol on the Multi Cooker.
  3. Once it is secure, use the lid handle to turn the lid to the left, lining up the arrow with the arrow next to the lock symbol; this will lock the lid.

ADJUSTING THE PRESSURE REGULATOR KNOB

  1. Turn the pressure regulator knob to the “Sealing” or “Venting” position.
    NOTE: The pressure regulator knob is removable for cleaning; pull it up to remove. Never attempt to remove it while the Multi Cooker is in use or while the floating valve is lifted.
RELEASING THE PRESSURE

CAUTION : Never attempt to open the lid while the floating valve is still lifted. Always allow the pressure to fully release before opening.

To release the pressure naturally

  1. Simply allow the Multi Cooker to switch to the KEEP WARM function until the floating valve drops on its own. This process may be sped up by pressing the CANCEL button, which will turn off the Multi Cooker’s heating element.

To release the pressure using the quick release method

  1. Use a long-stemmed utensil, such as a wooden spoon or tongs, to turn the pressure regulator knob to “Venting.”

CAUTION: When the pressure is releasing, hot steam will release from the pressure regulator knob. To prevent splattering, a towel may be placed over the pressure regulator knob before turning the pressure regulator knob to “Venting.”

NEVER PLACE YOUR HAND OR FACE OVER THE PRESSURE REGULATOR KNOB WHILE PRESSURE IS RELEASING. STEAM IS VERY HOT!

To open the lid before the programmed time is up

  1. Use a long-stemmed utensil, such as a wooden spoon or tongs, to turn the pressure regulator knob to “Venting,” or press CANCEL and wait for the floating valve to drop naturally. The lid may be opened once the valve drops.
    The lid may also be opened before the Multi Cooker comes to pressure and the floating valve has not lifted yet.

OPENING THE LID

  1. Ensure that the floating valve has dropped.
  2. Use the handle on the top of the lid to turn the lid to the right.
  3. Lift it up and slowly turn your wrist 90 degrees so that any moisture that has collected on the inside of the lid can drip into the cooking pot.
  4. Once the excess moisture has dripped into the cooking pot, the lid may be placed in one of the Multi Cooker’s handles.
HOW TO USE EACH FUNCTION

POULTRY

  • PRE-PROGRAMMED TIMES: Less = 10 minutes, Normal = 15 minutes, More = 25 minutes
  • MAX TIME: 4 hours
  • TO USE:
    a. If desired, use the Sauté function to brown the poultry. Otherwise, put ingredients, including at least 1 cup of liquid, into the cooking pot. Do not fill more than 2/3.
    b. Secure the lid and ensure the pressure regulator knob is set to the “Sealing” position.
    c. Press the POULTRY button. Use the – and + buttons to adjust the cooking time, OR press the POULTRY button again to select a preset cooking time. The mode will change from “Normal” to “More” or “Less.” (Normal, More and Less refer to preset cooking times. All can be adjusted further using the – and + buttons.)
    d. At this point, the pressure may also be adjusted by pressing the PRESSURE LEVEL  button. Less, Low Pressure & Normal Mode and High Pressure & More Mode may be selected. (Low Pressure & Normal Mode are designed to cook 9 minutes longer than  High Pressure & More Mode. Results will be very similar.) Press START.*
    e. Once the START button is selected, the Multi Cooker will beep three times and the word “On” will display on the screen. The selected cooking mode (Less, Normal or More) will also display on the screen along with the cooking cycle indicator. The cooking cycle indicator will display throughout the entire cooking process with the words “Preheating,” “Cooking,” or “Keep Warm” displayed below it.
    NOTE: The amount of preheating time varies based on the amount of ingredients in the cooking pot. A large amount of ingredients will take longer to come to pressure than a small amount. This process may be sped up if you start the function before securing the lid. It may also be sped up if you Sauté some of the ingredients before adding the liquid.
    f. Right before the Multi Cooker comes to pressure, it will hiss slightly and steam will start to escape from the pressure regulator knob.
    g. Once it reaches full pressure, the floating valve will pop up and remain lifted the entire time the Multi Cooker is at full pressure. The cooking cycle indicator will switch from “Preheating” to “Cooking,” and the Multi Cooker will start to count down.
    The lid will be locked during this time. As a safety precaution, it may not be opened
    DO NOT ATTEMPT TO OPEN THE LID WHILE THE FLOATING VALVE IS LIFTED!
    h. When the programmed time fully counts down, the Multi Cooker will beep 10 times and then switch to the Keep Warm function. While in the Keep Warm function, the Multi Cooker will count up.
    i. At this point, the pressure may be released naturally or by using the quick release method. The natural release method is recommended for bone-in chicken pieces that will benefit from additional cooking time. The quick release method is recommended for quick cooking pieces like boneless chicken breast.
    j. Always press CANCEL when you are done cooking to turn the Multi Cooker OFF.
MEAT/STEW
  • PRE-PROGRAMMED TIMES: Less = 20 minutes, Normal = 35 minutes, More = 45 minutes
  • MAX TIME: 4 hours
  • TO USE:
    a. If desired, use the Sauté function to brown the meat. Otherwise, put ingredients, including at least 1 cup of liquid, into the cooking pot. Do not fill more than 2/3.
    b. Secure the lid and ensure the pressure regulator knob is set to the “Sealing” position.
    c. Press the MEAT/STEW button. Use the – and + buttons to adjust the cooking time, OR press the MEAT/STEW button again to select a preset cooking time. The mode will change from “Normal” to “More” or “Less.” (Normal, More and Less refer to preset cooking times. All can be adjusted further using the – and + buttons.)
    d. At this point, the pressure may also be adjusted by pressing the PRESSURE LEVEL button. Less, Low Pressure & Normal Mode and High Pressure & More Mode may be selected. (Low Pressure & Normal Mode are designed to cook 9 minutes longer than High Pressure & More Mode. Results will be very similar.) Press START.*

  • MAX TIME: 4 hours
  • TO USE:
    a. Put the beans into the cooking pot. Fill the cooking pot halfway with water. Do not fill more than 1/2.
    b. Secure the lid and ensure the pressure regulator knob is set to the “Sealing” position.
    c. Press the BEANS/CHILI button. Use the – and + buttons to adjust the cooking time, OR press the BEANS/CHILI button again to select a preset cooking time. The mode will change from “Normal” to “More” or “Less.” (Normal, More and Less refer to preset cooking times. All can be adjusted further using the – and + buttons.)

YOGURT

Yogurt is made by first boiling milk, cooling it to 110°F and stirring in the desired yogurt starter. Yogurt starters may be bought online, or 1 to 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt with live, active cultures may be used.
The mixture then thickens and turns into yogurt by fermenting in a temperature-controlled environment.
Once the desired level of tanginess is achieved, it is then cooled and refrigerated overnight.

  • PRE-PROGRAMMED TIMES: Less = 24 hours, Normal = 8 hours, More = boil
  • TO USE:
    a. Put the milk into the cooking pot and lock the lid in place.
    b. Press the YOGURT button until the word “boiL” displays on the screen. Press START.
    c. Open the lid and stir the milk. Allow milk to cool until it reaches 110°F. Stir in the yogurt starter. Secure the lid and press the YOGURT button until the time displays on the screen. If desired, use the – and + buttons to adjust the time. Press START.
    d. Once the START button is selected, the Multi Cooker will beep three times and 00:00 will display on the screen. The selected cooking mode (Less, Normal or More) will also display on the screen along with the cooking cycle indicator. The cooking cycle indicator will display throughout the entire cooking process with the words “Cooking” displayed below it. The display will then count up, indicating how long the yogurt has been fermenting for.
    e. When the programmed time elapses, the Multi Cooker will beep 10 times, indicating it is done. “Yo gt” will display on the screen until the lid is opened.
    f. Allow the yogurt mixture to cool to room temperature, then transfer it to the refrigerator overnight so it can cool and thicken.
STERILIZE

    e. Always press CANCEL when you are done cooking to turn the Multi Cooker OFF.

    a. After selecting and setting any function, except Sauté, Yogurt and Sterliize, and before pressing START, press the delay button until the hours value on the screen begins to blink.
    b. Set the hours using the – and + buttons.
    c. Press the hours/minutes button until the minutes value blinks. Set the minutes using the – and + buttons.

TIP: Do not store foods that are prone to spoiling, like meat, fish or dairy, in the cooking pot for long periods of time.

KEEP WARM

Multi Cooker automatically switches to Keep Warm when any of the functions, except Sauté, Yogurt and Sterilize, finish. Heater remains on—at a lower temperature than the other functions—for up to 99 hours and 50 seconds to keep foods at a food-safe temperature.

  • MAX TIME: 99 hours and 50 seconds
  • TO USE:
    a. All functions, except Sauté, Yogurt and Sterilize, will automatically switch to Keep Warm once programmed time expires.
    b. The Keep Warm feature may also be set by pressing the KEEP WARM button until the light above it illuminates. The Keep Warm feature may also be timed by using the -, + and hours/minutes buttons.

Cleaning and Maintenance

  1. Unplug unit from outlet. Remove the base of the power cord from power cord port. Wipe down housing with a damp cloth or paper towel.
  2. Remove gasket from lid, as well as pressure regulator knob. Wash all removable parts with a non-abrasive sponge and warm, soapy water. Gasket, measuring cup, mixing spoon and ladle are top-rack dishwasher safe. Cooking pot is dishwasher safe. Multi Cooker lid, pressure regulator knob and housing are NOT dishwasher safe. Dry thoroughly.
    TIP: The gasket may be soaked in a mixture of equal parts water and white vinegar to remove any residual smells.

Tips

  • Always ensure the cooking pot is in place before adding ingredients to the Multi Cooker.
  • When using the lid, always make sure that the gasket is fully secured and the pressure regulator knob is in place.
  • When pressure cooking, always fill the Multi Cooker with at least 1/2 cup of water.
  • When pressure cooking for more than 30 minutes, use at least 1 cup of water.
  • Never fill the cooking pot more than 2/3.
  • When pressure cooking foods that foam up a lot, like rice, pasta and beans, only fill the cooking pot halfway.
  • Periodically empty the condensation cup located on the back of the Multi Cooker.
  • Cut food into equal sized pieces to ensure even cooking.
  • Cut tough pieces of meat into smaller pieces for the quickest cooking results.
  • When making white rice, the rice to water ratio is typically 1 cup rice to 1 cup water.
  • When making brown rice and other grains, the grains to water ratio is typically 1 cup rice to 1 ½ cup water.
  • When making beans, add the beans to the cooking pot first and then fill with water halfway.
  • Dried beans take longer to cook than soaked beans.
  • When steaming, place food directly on the rack. Add 1 cup of water or stock with or without spices and aromatics like lemon and garlic. For optimal results, liquid should not touch food. Allow rack to cool before removing from cooking pot, or use tongs.
  • As the Multi Cookers comes to pressure, steam will emit from the pressure regulator knob. It is also normal for it to hiss and wobble.
  • Use natural pressure release for foods that benefit from added cooking time such as soups, chilis and tough cuts of meat.
  • Use quick pressure release for foods that can overcook easily such as rice and vegetables.

Limited Warranty

CHEFMAN® warrants, subject to the conditions stated below, that from the date of purchase, this product will be free from mechanical defects for a period of ONE (1) year. CHEFMAN, at its option and with an accompanying receipt, will repair or replace this product found to be defective during the warranty period. Should this product become defective by reason of improper workmanship or material defect during the specified warranty period, CHEFMAN® will repair or replace the same effecting all necessary parts replacements for a period of one year from the date of purchase listed on the receipt. If product is no longer available we will replace it with a product of equal value. Transportation charges on parts, or products in whole, submitted for repair or replacement, under this warranty, must be borne by the purchaser.
This warranty is void if the product is used for other than single-family household use or subjected to any voltage and waveform other than as specified on the rating label (e.g., 120V ~ 60 Hz).
This warranty is available to consumers only. You are a consumer if you own a CHEFMAN® product that was purchased at retail for personal, family or household use. Except as otherwise required under applicable law, this warranty is not available to retailers or other commercial purchasers or owners.

CONDITIONS : This warranty is valid for the original USA and Canada retail purchaser from the date of initial retail purchase and is not transferable. Keep the original sales receipt. Proof of purchase is required to obtain warranty service or replacement. Dealers, service centers, or retail stores do not have the right to alter, modify or in any way, change the terms and conditions of this warranty. Warranty registration is not necessary to obtain warranty on CHEFMAN® Products. Save your proof of purchase receipt.

ABOUT YOUR PRODUCT WARRANTY : Most warranty repairs are handled routinely, but sometimes requests for warranty service may not be appropriate. For example, warranty service would NOT apply if the product damage occurred because of misuse, lack of routine maintenance, shipping, handling, 3rd party warehousing or improper installation. Similarly, the warranty is void if the manufacturing date or the serial number on the product has been removed or the equipment has been altered or modified. During the warranty period, the authorized service dealer, at its option, will repair or replace any part that, upon examination, is found to be defective under normal use and service.

NORMAL WEAR : This warranty does not cover normal wear of parts or damage resulting from any of the following: negligent use or misuse of the product; improper voltage or current; use contrary to the operation instructions; deviation from instructions regarding storage and transportation; repair or alteration by anyone other than CHEFMAN® or an authorized service center. Further, the warranty does not cover Acts of God, such as fire, flood, hurricanes and tornadoes.
CHEFMAN® shall not be liable for any incidental or consequential damages caused by the breach of any express or
implied warranty. Except to the extent prohibited by applicable law, any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular urpose is limited in duration to the duration of the above warranty. Some states, provinces or jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental of consequential damages or limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limitations or exclusion may not apply to you. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights that vary from state to state or province to province.

HOW TO OBTAIN WARRANTY SERVICE : If your CHEFMAN® product should prove to be defective within the warranty period, we will repair it, or if we think necessary, replace it. This warranty is effective for the time periods listed above and subject to the conditions provided for within this policy.

CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS ONLY:
California law provides that for In-Warranty Service, California residents have the option of returning a nonconforming product (A) to the store where it was purchased or (B) to another retail store which sells CHEFMAN® products of the same type. The retail store shall then, at its discretion, either repair the product, refer the consumer to an independent repair facility, replace the product, or refund the purchase price less the amount directly attributable to the consumer’s prior usage of the product. If the above two options do not result in the appropriate relief to the consumer, the consumer may then take the product to an independent repair facility if service or repair can be economically accomplished.
CHEFMAN® and not the consumer will be responsible for the reasonable cost of such service, repair, replacement, or refund for nonconforming products under warranty.
