CISCO 6841 IP Phone
The Cisco IP Phone 6841 and 6851 are multiplatform phones that provide users with various features and functionalities for efficient communication. This quick start guide will help you getstarted with your phone and learn how to use its key functions.
Your Phone
The Cisco IP Phone 6841 is shown in the guide.
It features the following components:
- Incoming call or voicemail indicator
- Line and feature buttons
- Softkeys
- Navigation
- Hold, Transfer, and Conference
- Speakerphone, Headset, and Mute
- Voicemail, Applications, and Directory
- Volume control
Line and Feature Buttons
Line and feature buttons on the phone serve various purposes like viewing
calls, accessing Speed Dial, and managing held calls.
The buttons indicate different statuses through illumination:
- Green, steady: Line is idle
- Red, steady: Line is in use
- Red, flashing: Incoming or held call
- Amber, steady: Line is unregistered
Functions
Place a Call
To make a call:
- Enter the desired phone number using the keypad.
- Pick up the handset to initiate the call.
Answer a Call
To answer an incoming call:
- Press the flashing red line button corresponding to the incoming call.
Put a Call on Hold
To place an active call on hold:
- Press the Hold button.
Resume a Call from Hold
To resume a call that is on hold:
- Press the Hold .
- To resume a call from hold, press Hold again.
View Your Recent Calls
To check your recent calls:
- Press the Applications button .
- Scroll and select Recents.
- Select a line to view its call history.
Transfer a Call to Another Person
To transfer an active call to another person:
- From a call that is not on hold, press Transfer
- Enter the other person’s phone number.
- Press Transfer again (before or after the party answers).
Add Another Person to a Call
To add another person to an active call:
- During the call, press the Conference button .
- Enter the phone number of the person you want to add to the call.
- Press the Dial button.
- Once the call is connected, press the Conference button again.
Place a Call with a Headset
To make a call using a headset:
- Plug in a headset to the phone.
- Enter the desired phone number using the keypad.
- Press the Headset button .
Place a Call with the Speakerphone
To make a call using the speakerphone:
- Enter the desired phone number using the keypad.
- Press the Speakerphone button .
Mute Your Audio
To mute your audio during a call:
- Press the Mute button .
- Press the Mute button again to unmute.
Listen to Voice Messages
To listen to voice messages:
- Press the Messages button .
- Follow the voice prompts to access your messages.To check messages for a specific line, press the corresponding line button first.
Forward All Calls
To forward all calls to another number or voicemail:
- Select a line and press the Forward button.
- Dial the number you want to forward calls to or press Voicemail.
- When you return, press the Clr fwd button to clear the forwarding.
Adjust the Volume in a Call
To adjust the volume during a call:
- Press the Volume up or down button to adjust the handset, headset, or speakerphone volume while on a call.
Adjust the Ringtone Volume
To adjust the ringtone volume when the phone is not in use:
- Press the Volume up or down button to adjust the ringer volume.
Change Ringtone
To change the ringtone:
- Press the Applications button.
- Select User preferences > Audio preferences > Ext (n) – Ring tone, where n represents the extension number.
- Scroll through the list of ringtones and press Play to hear a sample.
- Press Select and Set to save a selection.
- Press Back to exit.
Adjust the Screen Contrast
To adjust the screen contrast:
- Press the Applications button.
- Select User preferences > Screen preferences > Contrast level.
- Use the keypad to change the contrast number.
- Press Set to save the new contrast level.
Adjust the Screen Backlight
To adjust the screen backlight:
- Press the Applications button.
- Select User preferences > Screen preferences > Backlight timer.
- Press Select to scroll through the available options.
- Press Set to save a selection.
- Press Back to exit.
