Safety Instructions
4.1 General Safety Instructions
Warning
The information described here does not relieve the user of the duty to follow
the given safety requirements and legal regulations.
The component is designed for operation on horizontal grounds. There must be
no risk of persons running into the setup as well as no wind loads in normal
operation; otherwise, be sure to take appropriate additional measures to
prepare for such circumstances.
When setting up the configuration in public areas, the organizer must
establish and attest the stability and strength of the system.
Only qualified technicians are permitted to perform the installation steps. Be
sure to use personal protective equipment at all times.
The technicians responsible for installing the system on site are responsible
for and guarantee safe setup and use.
To prevent injury and damage, be sure to securely place or suspend the speaker
system as specified in the DGUV regulations 17 and 18 or similar locally
applicable accident-control standards.
Unless otherwise stated, use only KLING & FREITAG original parts for mounting
the speakers.
Never use other parts (in particular, parts not made by KLING & FREITAG).
Be sure to always visually inspect all accessories and loudspeakers before
use. In fixed installations, regularly check all system components for signs
of wear. Visual inspection includes checking the system components of the
speakers as well as the mounting components. During the inspection, check all
mounting components carefully for deformations, cracks, bolt damage, and
corrosion. If there are signs of wear, cracks, or deformation, etc., replace
the affected parts immediately.
See also the “Care and Maintenance” chapter on page 13.
4.2 Safety Instructions When Mounting the System as a Stand
Warning
Raised speakers mounted to each other can be considered a stand.
The component is designed for operation on horizontal grounds. There must be
no risk of persons running into the setup as well as no wind loads in normal
operation; otherwise, be sure to take appropriate additional measures to
prepare for such circumstances.
Stands require additional safeguard in the following and similar cases:
- The supporting surface does not allow for firm standing.
- The stability may be affected by the system height.
- Winds may occur.
- Persons may run into the system, causing it to fall down.
Suitable measures for securing stands include, for example:
- Weighing down the stand foot (in this case, the subwoofers)
- Guying to stable objects
- Blocking access to the standing area
- Assigning security staff
Specific actions might become necessary to prevent threatening audience
behavior.
Never place stands on emergency escape routes. Before placing stands on
traffic routes, make sure the path width is sufficient and all required
blocking and marking actions have been taken.
Remember that placing speakers onto or removing them from stands poses
specific risks. Be sure to use means suitable for the purpose (for example,
platforms).
Installation
Warning
Be sure to follow the safety instructions.
Setting up the speaker system requires two persons or a suitable lift for
carrying and handling.
Before mounting, make sure that the ground is level and will not give way to
the system weight.
Align the subwoofer vertically to the VIDA L speaker.
Be sure to mount no more than one VIDA L with a VIDA C speaker on a sub
adapter.
-
The 2 mounting bores in the subadapter base plate are designed for different woofer models:
• The rear bore allows for mounting the VIDA L speaker to all K&F NOMOS woofers as well as to the K&F SW 115 E and K&F SW 215 E woofers.
• The front bore allows for mounting the VIDA L speaker to the K&F SW 112, K&F PASSIO SUB 12, or K&F PASSIO SUB 15 woofers.
Align the base plate and thread the M20 bolt through the correct bore into the woofer pole mount. -
You can place a VIDA L speaker in a slightly offset position onto any of the specified K&F subwoofers and lock it securely.
Align the base plate to the desired speaker position.
Thread in the M20 bolt. -
To mount the mounting plate, gently pull out the lower speaker lever and rotate it clockwise by 90° to release it.
Have the lever lock into place. -
Put the mounting plate against the speaker, then insert the four tabs of the mounting plate into the four openings of the speaker until they stop.
Make sure the mounting plate is properly aligned. The mountingplate front edge must be level with the front edge of the VIDA L speaker.
Make sure all four connecting tabs slide smoothly into the corresponding speaker openings. -
Gently pull out the VIDA L speaker lever, then rotate it anticlockwise by 90° back into its original position.
Have the lever lock into place. -
Check the mounting plate for secure fit.
-
On both sides of the speaker, make sure that the chamfers of the 4 connecting pins sit flush with the outside surface.
-
Put the VIDA L speaker onto the woofer.
When doing so, make sure that the guide bolt moves into the baseplate guide.
-
You can now safely position the speaker.
The base-plate guide allows for precisely centering the speaker on the base plate. Push the speaker in front-grille direction, until the locking-bolt head engages with the guide bottom. -
When positioning is complete, screw the mounting plate onto the base plate using the two hand wheels.Speaker installation is now complete, so you can start the cabling.
Dismounting
Warning
Dismounting the speaker system requires two persons or a suitable lift for
carrying and handling.
If you intend to use a lift for uninstalling the speaker, be sure to mount a
VIDA L flying frame or VIDA L flying bracket onto the speaker.
Tip
When dismounting is completed, store all speakers and accessories in the
transportation case.
This way, they cannot get lost and are always at hand when needed. In
addition, the parts are protected at least temporarily against the effects of
unfavorable weather conditions, etc.
Basically, dismounting the speakers is performed in reverse order of the
installation process.
- Remove all cabling.
- Mount the K&F mounting brackets / handholds onto the VIDA L speaker as necessary.
- Release the two hand wheels to separate the base plate from the mounting plate.
- Gently push back the speaker to remove the guide-bolt head from under the base-plate guide.
- Remove the VIDA L and place it in a transportation case.
- Separate the mounting plate from the VIDA L speaker.
- Separate the base plate from the subwoofer.
- To ensure no parts are lost, connect the base plate with the mounting plate using the hand wheels.
- Store all speakers and accessories in the transportation case.

Transportation and Storage
Always protect all metal parts from even temporary moisture. despite, be sure
to store, transport, and use the accessories in dry environments only. Speaker
accessories are not designed for prolonged use in corrosive environments.
Make sure that the system is adequately ventilated during longer storage
periods so any residual moisture can escape from the equipment.
In addition, protect all system parts and VIDA L accessories from mechanical
strains in order to prevent damage.
Care and Maintenance
Warning
-
For the owner and user, it is mandatory to be aware that speaker accessories used to fly or mount the speakers are fundamentally safety-relevant.
Over time, the accessories may exhibit signs of wear, for example, from mechanical strain, transport damage, corrosion, or improper handling.
As a basic principle, you must visually inspect the speaker accessory before and after you use it. For fixed installations, you must inspect it for signs of wear at regular intervals.
When performing those checks, particularly look for deformations, cracks, dents, damage to threads, and corrosion. Also check slings and lifts (e.g. shackles, chains, and steel ropes) carefully for wear and deformation.
If as a result of these checks any uncertainty should arise with regard to safety or if specific faults are found, stop using the accessories and send in the product to KLING & FREITAG GmbH for inspection and repairs, if necessary.
Inspection regulations may vary depending on application and country of use. Observe all applicable regulations; when in doubt, contact the local authorities. -
Clean this speaker accessory regularly using a corrosion-prevention penetrating oil (for example, WD-40 ® ).
