User Instructions
It is very important that you teach yourself the correct user instructions.
Therefore, you need to know all the components of the wheelchair as described
in this user manual. Always check with a health professional about developing
safe methods regarding your physical abilities to use your wheelchair safely.
4.1 Before Wheelchair Use
Please ensure you have familiarised yourself with how to operate this
wheelchair safely before using it. Before using the wheelchair in busy or
hazardous environments, familiarise yourself with the operation of the
wheelchair. Practice operating the wheelchair in a safe open environment until
you are confident that you can easily operate and control the wheelchair in
various daily operations.
4.2 Getting In / Transferring Into The Wheelchair
- Before getting on the wheelchair make sure it is on a safe flat surface and you are as close as possible to the wheelchair.
- Always make sure the castor wheels are facing forward and engage the brakes.
- Move the swing-away legrests outward away from yourself to enable easier access when getting in the wheelchair.
- Shift your weight onto the seat of the wheelchair however easiest and safest for you to carry out orusing a recommended method by a health professional. A transfer board can be used if necessary to help.
4.3 Getting Off / Transferring Off The Wheelchair
- Before getting off the wheelchair make sure it is on a safe flat surface and you are as close as possible to the place you would like to transfer to.
- When getting off the wheelchair you should follow the same steps for getting in but in reverse order.
- Always make sure the castor wheels are facing forward and engage the brakes.
- Move the swing-away legrests outward away from yourself and place your feet on the ground.
- Shift your weight to the front of the wheelchair using the armrests as support and move yourself to the place you wish to transfer to. A transfer board can be used if necessary to help.
4.4 Reaching In The Wheelchair
We always advise the attendant to help the user to reach any objects that are
not safe enough for the user to reach themself, when sat in the wheelchair.
Should the user want to reach objects themself without the aid of a attendant,
we recommend using a grab stick mobility aid to help reach objects safely.
4.5 Whilst Using The Wheelchair
- Always plan your journey and check all components of your wheelchair functions as they should before travel.
- Ensure your clothing and other garments including accessories do not get tangled or caught on the wheelchair handles or in the wheels.
- Always remain seated in the wheelchair with seatbelt securely fastened until stationary with parking brake engaged and you have reached your destination.
4.6. Using The Stepper Tube
The Excel G-Lite Pro is equipped with two steppers located on either side of
the wheelchair (see Photo 1).
The attendant can use the stepper tube to lift the front castor wheels, for
example, when mounting and dismounting a kerb. The attendant should place
their foot on a stepper and apply pressure to create lift whilst holding both
push handles for control.
Warning Do not raise the front castors by pushing down on the push handles as this could result in damage to the wheelchair.
4.7 Travelling Up Kerbs / Pavement
4.7.1 Method 1
- The attendant places their foot on the stepper located on the back of the wheelchair and pulls the push handles backwards down towards them (see Figure 1).
- This will cause a leverage effect that will tip the wheelchair backwards allowing the attendant to pull up the wheelchair in this position and lift up on to the kerb/pavement using the push handles (see Figure 2).
- Ensure the rear wheels are safely on the pavement before returning the wheelchair back to its normal upright position with the front castor wheels back down on to the pavement.
4.7.2 Method 2
- The attendant places their foot on the stepper located at the back of the wheelchair and pulls the push handles backwards down towards them (see Figure 3).
- The wheelchair user then leans back towards the back of the wheelchair, which will cause a leverage effect. This will tip the wheelchair backwards allowing the attendant to pull up the wheelchair in this position and lift up on to the kerb/pavement using the push handles (see Figure 4).
- Ensure the front castor wheels are safely on the pavement before returning the wheelchair back to its normal upright position with the rear wheels back down on to the pavement.
Warning
- Do not get on or off the wheelchair whilst travelling up or down a incline.
- Do not carry extra weight that exceeds the maximum user weight, as the anti-tip wheels are designed to keep the centre of gravity on the back of the wheelchair.
- Do not attempt to travel across a sloping surface greater than 3 degrees, this may cause the wheelchair to tip over.
- Do not attempt to travel up an incline greater than 10 degrees.
- Do not travel backwards down or up an incline/decline.
Warning
Do not travel into kerbs or any raised pavement, this could damage your
wheelchair and will be at the expense of your warranty.
4.8 Travelling Down Kerbs / Pavement
- The attendant stands towards the edge of the kerb/pavement. The attendant places their foot on the stepper located at the back of the wheelchair and pulls the push handles backwards down towards them (see Figure 5).
- The wheelchair user then leans back towards the back of the wheelchair, which will cause a leverage effect. This will tip the wheelchair backwards slightly towards the ground allowing the attendant to find a balance point and push the wheelchair in this position towards the edge of the kerb, then down on to the pavement using the push handles (see Figure 6).
- Ensure the rear wheels are safely on the ground before returning the wheelchair back to its normal upright position with the front castor wheels back down on to the pavement.
4.9 Travelling Up / Down Inclines
- The Excel G-Lite Pro needs a minimum of 7 cm ground clearance to be used safely, therefore it is important to always assess any terrain incline or decline challenges that may occur when in use.
Warning
Do not carry any weight on the back of the wheelchair when ascending.
This changes the wheelchair balance and increases pressure on the rear wheels;
which can result in the wheelchair tipping backwards.

Maintenance
There are various maintenance checks that you can carry out yourself to keep
your wheelchair in optimum condition. If you regularly check the wheelchair
and perform small maintenance tasks, this will extend the lifetime of your
wheelchair and maintain its ease of use. In the following paragraphs these
maintenance checks are further described.
7.1 Tyres
Both Excel G-Lite Pro models are equipped with Polyurethane (PU) tyres. An
advantage of PU tyres is that they do not need to be pumped up and can not be
punctured. PU tyres should also be checked weekly as a precautionary measure,
although they are maintenance free it is important to check they are in good
condition to ensure they are still safe to use.
- Always clean PU type of tyres with car shampoo or a mild soap.
- Always use a moist cloth or sponge with luke warm water.
- Ensure the wheels are thoroughly dried with a soft cloth or towel.
7.2 Brakes
Inspect both brakes for sharp rims. If there are sharp rims on the brakes we
advise you to replace them.
- Ensure that all parts of the brake are in the right position and securely fastened.
- Ensure that the mechanism is functioning smoothly. If the brakes are not functioning smoothly, we recommend adding one or two drops of WD40 oil to the turning points.
- Remove any surplus oil and dirt after brake check if oil has been used.
- Ensure the brakes do not come into contact with the wheels as you are moving.
7.3 Cross-frame
The cross-frame of the wheelchair is located underneath the seat of the
wheelchair and must be kept in good condition to avoid rust from occurring.
- Always check the wheelchair can easily be folded and unfolded.
- Always check the wheelchair travels in a straight line while moving.
- Ensure the cross-frame is not bent and shows no signs of wear or damage.
7.4 Rear Wheels
A good adjustment of the rear wheels improves the stability of the wheelchair.
- Make sure that the wheels can move freely without touching anything.
- Make sure there is no markings on the rear wheels.
7.5 Front Forks / Castor Wheels
The front fork must move and turn freely to ensure a smooth ride when using
the wheelchair.
- Make sure the nut of the front fork is not over tightened or overly loose.
- When the nut is too loose, the wheels will rotate but the ride will be uncomfortable.
- If the nut is to tight, the wheelchair will be difficult to steer because the bearings become pushed, so the balls can not move freely.
- When the nut is correctly in place the front wheel will stop slowly.
- Make sure the front castor wheels show no signs of wear and or damage.
7.6 Upholstery
It is important to check the upholstery of your wheelchair regularly. Torn or
worn upholstery can not support weight safely which could result in user
injury and or further damage to your wheelchair.
- Check the textile coating for holes, cracks and worn areas.
- Check the upholstery mount grommets to make sure that they are all correctly aligned and secured.
7.7 Cleaning
It is important to clean your wheelchair regularly and ensure it is kept dirt
as well as dust free.
- Clean the upholstery, body and plastic components on the wheelchair regularly with a mild soap and luke warm water. Never use abrasive cleaners, they can damage the varnish and never use steam or high pressure cleaners.
- Never use solvents, abrasive waxes/chemicals and or silicone spray.
- Thoroughly dry the wheelchair after cleaning with a soft cloth or towel. Always dry you wheelchair after it has come in to contact with any wet weather, for example, rain and snow.
Transportation
The Excel G-Lite Pro is designed to be easily transported by car. The legrests of both Excel G-Lite Pro models can also be removed, then the wheelchair can be folded. The Excel G-Lite Pro Self-propel model can be further disassembled down by removing the rear wheels using the quick-release mechanisms and then folding the wheelchair.
Maintenance Schedule
It is very important to maintain the condition of your wheelchair with regular
sufficient general maintenance. We advise you to take your wheelchair to a
service professional for a check at least once a year. Regular general
maintenance should be carried out, in order to prevent any unnecessary
problems and or damage occurring to your wheelchair. A poorly maintained and
or neglected wheelchair will be at the expense of the warranty, therefore
please ensure you follow the general maintenance schedule below;
Daily (Before use)
- Check the fold ability of the wheelchair including backrest.
- Check if the brakes are working correctly (including parking brake).
- Check all wheels tyre tread for wear and or damage.

different to your wheelchairs specifications.
For warranty, service and or technical support, contact the authorised dealer
from where you originally purchased your wheelchair from. In the event they
are unable to help or satisfy, Excel Mobility welcomes you to contact us in
writing.
Warning
Excel Mobility cannot be liable for any consequent or individual damage
whatsoever.
While this user manual is created with care, it is not exclusive. If your

should always go to an authorised Excel Mobility dealer or the dealer who sold
you the product to discuss the problem. The warranty is only valid during the
