If you are printing from the Catalog, skip to step 3.
Step 1: Obtaining an STL file

  • Go to www.thingiverse.com and search for an item you want to 3D print.
  • Click “Download All Files.”
  • Unzip the folder to see your files.
  • Open the folder that says “Files.” Your STL file should be in there.

Step 2: Converting the STL file to G-Code

  • Open up Prusa Slicer.

  • Drag and drop your STL file into the Prusa Slicer.

  • On the right hand side, under “Print settings” select DRAFT.

  • To resize:
    ○ You can use the “Object Manipulation” options to resize your print by percentage or size.
    ○ You can also resize by clicking the “Scale” button on the left hand side. You will see different color cubes appear around your print and you can click and drag these cubes to resize your print.

  • Click “Slice Now.”

  • Click “Export G-Code.”

  • Save your file.

Step 3: Uploading the G-Code file to Octoprint or Printing from the Catalog

  • Select either Prusa 1 or Prusa 2 from the desktop screen depending on which 3D Printer you are using. This will open up a page called Octoprint.

  • On the left you will see a section for “Files.”
    ○ If you are just printing from the Catalog, open the folder called “Catalog.” and find the file you want to print.
    ○ If you are uploading your own G-Code click “Upload.” Find you G-Code file and upload it.

  • Click the printer icon next to your file. This will load and print the file.
Step 4: Once the base has cooled down for a minute or two, the 3D print should slide off the base if you just push it gently. If it doesn’t come off, give it more time to cool down.
