Please Note : This pump is designed and intended for occasional use only, meaning no more than a few times a week, not more than once per day. Refer to the chart on the back of these instructions for examples of appropriate situations for occasional use. If this pump is used more often than recommended, your pump’s life expectancy may diminish earlier, and it may negatively impact your milk supply, and/or pumping success. Moms who work full-time, or pump more than occasionally, should use the Evenflo Advanced Double Electric Breast Pump, which has been expertly developed for frequent pumping.
Indications for Us e: The Evenflo Advanced Manual Breast Pump is intended to express and collect milk from a lactating woman’s breasts. This pump is intended for a single user.
Important Safety Information
Read all instructions before using and save for future use.
- Use this product only for its intended use as described in these instructions.
- NEVER sanitize handle in the microwave.
- Use pump gently. Hard, rapid pumping can cause nipple irritation or injury.
- DO NOT heat breast milk in the microwave. Microwaving can destroy nutrients in breast milk and can heat liquids unevenly resulting in burns or scalds. See page 9 for proper use of breast milk.
- DO NOT re-freeze breast milk. After feeding, any unused breast milk left in the bottle can be refrigerated and used within 2 hours then discarded. See page 8 for proper milk storage.
- DO NOT use this product if it is broken or any parts are missing.
- DO NOT use flange insert if your nipple is larger than the flange insert’s center opening. See page 6 for proper flange fit.
- Pump contains small parts which could cause a child to choke. Keep pump parts and accessories out of children’s reach.
- Breast pumps are personal care items, for one user only.
- ALWAYS test temperature of liquid before feeding.
- Mothers should NOT breastfeed or feed expressed milk to their infants if the infant is diagnosed with galactosemia or the mother is diagnosed with HIV, HTLV-1/2, Ebola, has untreated brucellosis or tuberculosis, active HSV lesions on breast, or uses illicit street drugs.
Save These Instructions for Future Use.
Identification of Parts
IMPORTANT
Before using your breast pump, disassemble, clean and sanitize thoroughly.
Always wash hands well with soap and water before handling your pump. Unscrew
bottle A and twist valve B to remove from assembled flange unit C .
Remove the membrane D from the valve B.Grasp the
middle of the handle E and lift in an upward motion to disconnect from the pin
F on the back of the diaphragm cap H , and from the diaphragm stem G
.Remove diaphragm cap H and
diaphragm assembly J from flange C.Pull diaphragm stem G through
the hole in the base of the diaphragm J.
Before First Use
Clean Your Pump Parts : To prevent warping, do not place anything on top of pump parts during sanitizing, washing, or drying. Do not assemble pump until parts are cool and dry.
TO SANITIZE PARTS ON THE STOVETOP :
Place disassembled pump parts in a pan of boiling water for 5 minutes. Stir
frequently.
DO NOT allow parts to rest on bottom of pan as they may melt or become
damaged.
TO SANITIZE PARTS IN THE MICROWAVE :
Use Evenflo Feeding Silicone Steam Sanitizing Bag according to instructions.
IMPORTANT
DO NOT CLEAN HANDLE IN MICROWAVE or with sanitization bags as it will damage the handle and the PUMP WILL NO LONGER WORK.
Before EVERY Use
- Wash your hands with soap and water before handling your pump.
- Ensure parts are clean and dry. Refer to cleaning instructions on page 8.
- Use care when handling the valve/membrane assembly to avoid damage.
- Visually inspect the individual components for cracks, chips, tears, or deterioration. In the event that damage to the device is observed, please discontinue use until the damaged parts have been replaced.
Assemble Your Breast Pump
Attach the membrane A to the valve B.
Note: Make sure the membrane is attached and is lying flat against the valve, or the pump will lose suction and will not work properly. Also, make sure the membrane is not torn, as this also will cause decreased suction and the pump to not work properly. ![evenflo feeding 4013 410 Advanced Breast Pump
- tom](https://manuals.plus/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/evenflo- feeding-4013-410-Advanced-Breast-Pump-tom.png)
Push valve assembly B onto the bottom of the flange C.
Screw bottle D into bottom of flange. Push diaphragm stem E through the hole
in base of the diaphragm F.
Pull stem upward until the base of the stem lays flat against diaphragm to
create diaphragm assembly G. Place diaphragm assembly G in
flange C and snap diaphragm cap H onto flange.Insert handle I in a
scooping motion around middle of stem F. Align groove J on underside
of handle with pin K on diaphragm cap H and push downward to snap into place.
Check the Fit of the Flange
The Advanced Manual Pump works with the Evenflo AdvancedFit™ Flange System. The Advanced Manual Pump comes with the Large 30.5mm base flange size and a silicone flange insert. Additional sizes are available separately for purchase, allowing you to find your best fit.
The AdvancedFit™ Flange System available sizes include :
- 21.0mm (insert)
- 24.5mm (insert)
- 28.0mm (insert)
- 30.5mm (no insert)
- 33.0mm (insert)
- 36.0mm (no insert)
To use silicone flange insert, press it into the tunnel of the hard flange firmly. Then ensure that the outside edges of the insert wrap around the hard flange.
Correct Flange Size vs. Too Small or Too Large
A proper flange size is needed for comfort and to maintain your milk supply.
Your flange size can change several times throughout your journey. Recheck
your flange fit frequently to ensure you are using the proper flange size.
| |
---|---|---
FLANGE TOO SMALL
While pumping, some or all of your nipple rubs against the sides of the
tunnel. Use a larger size.| CORRECT FLANGE SIZE
While pumping, your nipple should move freely in the flange tunnel. You should
see space around the nipple. A minimal amount of your areola is drawn into
the tunnel with the nipple.| FLANGE TOO LARGE
While pumping, too much of the areola is drawn into the tunnel with your
nipple. Your areola may rub against the side of the tunnel.
Use a smaller size.
IMPORTANT
- DO NOT use the flange insert if your nipple is larger than the center opening.
- Your breast may change over time. Should this occur, choose a different size for maximum comfort.
- Included flange sizes may not fit all breast and nipple sizes, but additional sizes can be purchased separately. If you are having issues after trying all included sizes, please contact our Parent’s Ally Consumer Care for assistance.
Using Your Breast Pump
- Place the flange to your breast centered over the nipple.
- To pump, start with a fast, short pumping motion to help stimulate your first milk release, about 2 short pumps per second. As milk starts to flow, transition into a slower, longer pumping motion.
- You will notice that squeezing the handle draws the milk; releasing the handle allows the milk to collect in the bottle.
Note: You can hold the flange in place with your opposite hand and/or massage and compress your breast to encourage milk flow while pumping.
IMPORTANT!
Avoid hard, rapid pumping, which can cause nipple irritation or injury.
Tip: If you are experiencing difficulty expressing your first milk release, try to stimulate your first letdown reflex using these steps:
- Relax and think about your baby.
- Gently massage your breasts, starting on the outside of your breast working toward the nipple
- Apply warm, moist compresses; continue until you can hand-express a few drops of milk.
- When pumping is complete, release pump handle and remove pump from the breast.
- Carefully unscrew bottle from pump. Place the sealing disc into the cap ring and screw securely onto the bottle. Your breast milk is now ready for storage.
IMPORTANT!
If you feel pain in your breast or nipple, stop pumping and slide a finger
between the flange and your breast to immediately break the suction. If you
feel discomfort while pumping, check flange fit to ensure you have the most
appropriate size (p. 6) and contact your healthcare provider for assistance.
After Every Use
To ensure that your breast pump performs well, follow these steps after every use :
- Completely disassemble the flange assembly, see page 3.
- Rinse the flange assembly in cool water to remove milk residue.
- Hand wash with warm, soapy water (approx +30°C / +86°F).
- To prevent warping, do not place anything on top of pump parts during sanitizing, washing, or drying. Do not assemble pump until parts are cool and dry.
- Rinse thoroughly and air dry before assembly. You may also wash your flange assembly (after rinsing) on the top rack of your dishwasher.
- Use care when handling the valve/membrane assembly during cleaning to avoid damage. Visually inspect the individual components for cracks, chips, tears, or deterioration. In the event that damage to the device is observed, please discontinue use until the damaged parts have been replaced.
- Go online or contact Parent’s Ally to purchase replacement parts.
Storing Your Breast Milk
- After sealing your bottle tightly with the sealing disc and cap ring, label the bottle with the date and time the milk was expressed.
- Use the chart below as a guide for storing your breast milk for future use.
Note: In hot weather, chill milk immediately to prevent spoilage.
**Breast Milk Storage Guidelines***
| Room Temperature| Refrigerator| Freezer
---|---|---|---
Freshly Expressed Breast Milk| Up to 4 hours| Up to 4 days| Within 6 months is
best Up to 12 months is acceptable
Thawed Breast Milk (frozen)| 1 – 2 hours| 24 hours| NEVER re-freeze milk after
it has thawed
Storing Your Breast Milk
- CDC. Proper Storage and Preparation of Breast Milk, Revised 2020. https://www.cdc.gov/breastfeeding/recommendations/handling_breastmilk.htm
- ABM Clinical Protocol #8: Human Milk Storage Information for Home Use for Full-Term Infants, Revised 2017. https://abm.memberclicks.net/assets/DOCUMENTS/PROTOCOLS/8-human-milk-storage-protocol-english.pdf
Note: Breast milk should be stored in the refrigerator or freezer compartment away from the door to avoid changes in temperature.
For models that include a cooler bag :
- Place frozen ice packs in the included cooler bag.
- Place the sealed bottle(s) inside and zip the bag closed.
- When frozen ice packs are used and the cooler bag is kept at room temperature of 68 – 77° F (20 – 25° C), breast milk can be safely stored for up to 10 hours.
Note: Avoid storing the cooler bag in a hot closet, cabinet, or car.
Using Your Breast Milk
-
Thaw frozen milk slowly in the refrigerator. Avoid letting milk sit out at room temperature to thaw. (For quicker thawing, hold container under running water – start with cool water and gradually increase the temperature.)
-
Just before feeding, you may warm refrigerated milk:
• Hold the sealed bottle under warm, running water, or
• Use a bottle warmer to the manufacturer’s instructions, or
• Heat water in a cup or other small container, then place sealed bottle in the water to warm.
• DO NOT heat breast milk for more than 20 minutes. -
The milk fat may separate while stored. Briefly shake or swirl milk to mix before offering it to baby.
-
If feeding from the collection bottle, you must use Evenflo Balance + Standard Nipples. Other brands or types of nipples will not work effectively. When using the Evenflo Balance + Standard Nipples for feeding, squeeze nipple base and insert through the TOP of the cap ring. Once lip is inside cap ring, release the nipple and lightly push the inside lip towards the edge. Hand-tighten cap ring with care not to over or under tighten. Evenflo Balance + Standard Nipples sold separately.
-
Always test the temperature of the milk before feeding.
IMPORTANT
- NEVER microwave human milk or heat directly on the stove.
- If baby does not finish breast milk at one feeding, unfinished amount must be dis- carded within 2 hours.
- Cool freshly pumped breast milk before adding to refrigerated or frozen breast milk.
MAINTENANCE
For optimal performance, keep spare parts on hand. Replace at the first sign
of wear or if you pump less milk than expected.
It is normal for pump parts to lose elasticity and wear over time with use,
washing, and sanitizing. Here is a guide for pump maintenance.
