kALIMBA
kALIMBA is a bundle of six kalimbas and two articulations of the Hohner
Guitaret. They are all different and have a unique sound. To round up the
sound of the kalimba and to give it a special touch, we added a whole bunch of
layers such as a Cembalet, a handpan, and a music box.
The Kalimba provides nine effects that you can use to customize your sound. We
also added 13 presets which cover the full range of possibilities of the
instrument as well as its complexity.
OVERVIEW & CONCEPT
The kalimba is an idiophone. Traditionally, the instrument is played with
fingers. It consists of staggered metal tines over a resonance body, generally
made out of wood.
We recorded several kalimbas in different ways, up to four round robins and
four velocity layers. This resulted in six different kalimbas, all different
in sound and charisma. We supplemented this collection with two variations of
the Hohner Guitaret. You can also add a second layer of sounds to the
instrument. To get even more variation, there are nine different effects
available for processing the sound.
And if you run out of ideas, just press the “Dice” button and let the kalimba
create a sound on its own by randomizing all parameters.
